At a casual lunch, a woman I know very slightly changed her seat to be near me, then suddenly started gouging the sole of my foot with her nails, I suppose as an attempt to tickle me.

As I have serious nerve pain in my feet, it was excruciating. It still hurts.
She didn’t stop until I had said No, stop, more than once.
I know she didn’t know about the nerve pain but still, who does that? And doesn’t stop when asked.
I wish I had screamed in her face.

AIBU to think she’s a loon who should be carefully avoided?

Is this like a social meeting for people with custard for brains?

So it seems.

well I won’t put my feet up again. I didn’t realise it was so frowned on, I thought as they weren’t touching the sofa it was okay.

This is so unlikely that I’m having a hard time believing it’s true.

Same here. I believe about 10% of the posts I read on MN

It wasn’t a light tickle, she used a lot of pressure
There were two sofas to spare, because two couples had already left. She had been across the room and moved over to me when some others had left.
I don’t know why you think I wouldn’t be genuine.

I can see that she might have been intending a ‘feet off the seat’ message, although they weren’t on it, maybe she thought they were.
Still, none of her business.

Is she a bit ‘unusual? What adult would dream of behaving like this!

Lindy2 · 14/08/2026 13:56

It's not acceptable to touch people's feet.

You should have wacked her hand away from you and firmly told she was hurting you.

Yetanotherone12 · 14/08/2026 13:58

reading with interest as I keep being told that touching other people’s feet in a swimming pool is “etiquette”

I fucking can’t stand it and reflexively stop. I find it rude as well.

i was a competitive swimmer as a child and nobody ever touched anyone else intentionally. You either waited and started off before them, or you overtook at the lane end.

it seems to be “youngster” that think it’s ok. Which surprises me as we were far less informed around consent in the 70’s and 80’s.

so no, I would have been furious at anyone touching my feet uninvited, ever.

CatAsstrophe · 14/08/2026 14:01

Weird thread.

The random person touching your feet is very strange, but it's also weird that you put your feet up on someone else's sofa, regardless of what they were wrapped/tucked into.

Is it? Loads of my mates put their bare/socked feet up on the sofa when we’re relaxing. I wouldn’t say it’s unusual. Most sofas are way too deep for their feet to be on the ground and lean back

I was on a sofa and I had tucked my feet up beside me. I was kind of stuck.

I wasn’t near anyone else. She moved across the room to sit there.

Did your feet smell and was it her way of saying you were rude having bare smelly feet on the sofa whilst people were eating?

BonaBona · 14/08/2026 14:12

I assume the weather is hot and you all are wearing sandals right now? Anyway, the person who did this to you has mental problems. Do avoid. Very much so. If she pursues regardless you can bring it up in front of witnesses. Otherwise, just forget it and hope she goes away. You might mention what happened to trusted confidants so you can back it up later.

SummerDive · 14/08/2026 14:13

I would have got up and move to another sofa. With my feet squarely on the floor. Some people just dint seem to understand tge word NO. Because they think it’s funny, everyone else is supposed to laugh with them. Even if you dint find that funny. You see that a lot on MN.

Having said that, she was totally out of order.
i get why you dint want to see her again but if iYou see her as part of a group, how are you going to negotiate that whikst still seeing all the other friends?

itsgettingweird · 14/08/2026 14:14

If the host has no problem with your feet up this other person has no say.

The other person actually moved over and gouged your feet rather than using words.

Agree - this is one on the oddest things I’ve ever read on here. And it’s a high bar!

AutisticMumOf2 · 14/08/2026 14:15

I would of kicked her in the face.

While her behaviour is completely bizarre I still don't understand why you didn't move. Why does tucking your feet under on the sofa immobilise you?

category12 · 14/08/2026 14:17

Marcipox · 14/08/2026 13:28

I grabbed her arm and said something like Stop. No not my feet
or something. In a panic.
she’s big and strong and didn’t stop.

Are you some kind of foot or tickle fetishist?

This makes no sense at all

Why didn’t you move your feet???

maybe she hated having your feet up on sofa next to her ?

DorsetMermaid · 14/08/2026 14:19

In what fictional parallel universe do women you know very slightly cross a room to gouge your feet at casual lunches.

This is utter bollocks isn't it?

pimplebum · 14/08/2026 14:21

how were they up on the sofa but not touching them ?

Dumbledora8 · 14/08/2026 14:28

Was she drunk?? This is all very weird

Alittlefrustrated · 14/08/2026 14:30

She's bizarre, but you're a bit odd too.
I would never have bare feet in someone's house, never mind on the furniture. I take little socks to put on in a no shoes house. No shoes doesn't mean bare feet.

It's not a 🦶 🦶 fetish thread is it? 🤮

MeAndMyGhost · 14/08/2026 14:34

What very strange behaviour.

MyDeftDuck · 14/08/2026 14:40

I’m puzzled as to how your foot was anywhere near her finger nails at a lunch venue? Were your feet on the table or was she crawling around on all fours?

Monty36 · 14/08/2026 14:43

Apart from reacting with my leg I would have asked her what the heck she thought she was doing.
Completely mad. I would have wanted some sort of explanation.
