AIBU to avoid someone who thinks she’s funny but actually hurt me.

At a casual lunch, a woman I know very slightly changed her seat to be near me, then suddenly started gouging the sole of my foot with her nails, I suppose as an attempt to tickle me.

As I have serious nerve pain in my feet, it was excruciating. It still hurts.
She didn’t stop until I had said No, stop, more than once.
I know she didn’t know about the nerve pain but still, who does that? And doesn’t stop when asked.
I wish I had screamed in her face.

AIBU to think she’s a loon who should be carefully avoided?

Is the op genuine?

Cause this post is very odd indeed and potentially written for even odder reasons...

Quokka2 · 14/08/2026 11:45

I was disturbed enough by the gouging itself but if she did it to make a social point then I am even more disturbed. What a psycho.

I am usually a people pleaser and bad at calling out poor behaviour but I actually may have screamed in this scenario!

Yes I think she was saying ‘eww get your feet off the sofa that’s gross’ but without using her words.

tbh both things are weird!

If she was suggesting that fett shoukd be removed from the sofa, it's a total failure in communication, as there's no hint from the OP that it was understood that way. Using words would have been far more likely to get that message across, if that's what it was, and she wouldn't have come over as so weird.

Even if it was to get the OP to move her feet, it is weird that the first approach is to handle the feet rather than just ask her to move them.

AnitaCam · 14/08/2026 12:45

This is so unlikely that I’m having a hard time believing it’s true.

yes I agree, it goes without saying that it’s weird to touch someone’s feet.

Marcipox · 14/08/2026 12:49

It was someone s home, we take turns to host, it’s a shoes off house.
There was plenty of room. Yards of sofa to spare.
My feet weren’t actually touching the sofa, they were on the hem of my maxi dress. The hostess knows I do this.

Was she genuinely gouging?
Were there genuinely yards of sofa to spare?
Is this thread genuinely genuine?
So many questions...

GreenCaterpillarOnALeaf · 14/08/2026 13:11

If she carried on after I’d said stop I’d have thumped her. You should avoid her but I’d probably also be kind of watching from afar because sooner or later if she keeps touching people like that someone’s gonna lamp her and that might be cathartic for you to see or hear about.

Apdjvt · 14/08/2026 13:14

Even without the pain I’d avoid, how weird

Sparkletastic · 14/08/2026 13:16

The hostess knowing you do this does not mean she’s ok with it.

Whosthetabbynow · 14/08/2026 13:18

Icky. I’d have moved.

ToKittyornottoKitty · 14/08/2026 13:19

OP that’s the worst told OP I’ve seen on here in ages and makes you sound like a troll, purely because you left out all the relevant detail about where you were. Weird thread

CustardySergeant · 14/08/2026 13:20

You say in the title that she thinks she's funny for gouging your foot with her nails. What did she say or do that gives you that impression?

It wasn’t a light tickle, she used a lot of pressure
There were two sofas to spare, because two couples had already left. She had been across the room and moved over to me when some others had left.
I don’t know why you think I wouldn’t be genuine.

I can see that she might have been intending a ‘feet off the seat’ message, although they weren’t on it, maybe she thought they were.
Still, none of her business.

mondaytosunday · 14/08/2026 13:24

What? This is weird. If you couldn’t move you slam your hand down on hers and say stop.

The way she pounced , laughing loudly, and wouldn’t stop until she wanted to.
As if we shared a giant tickling game. We don’t.

It doesn’t sound genuine because of how bizarre you made the OP sound! Also the very dramatic ‘gouging’. She was weird, but also it’s grim to have your naked feet on someone else’s sofa even if they are just about staying in your dress. Next time if someone comes and sits on the massive sofa you are on (which isn’t weird, like you said several other people had just left), put your feet down on the floor to be polite

I grabbed her arm and said something like Stop. No not my feet
or something. In a panic.
she’s big and strong and didn’t stop.

I physically can't take tickling. Not just hating it, it actually hurts me and I lash out without realising I'm doing so.

I once accidentally punched someone in the face when they pounced and grabbed my underarms and tickled so hard that it hurt. I lashed out and they got punched.

MyDarlingRose · 14/08/2026 13:45

Sorry she touched your feet?? It’s absolutely weird for her to do that at all. I wouldn’t want to be around someone who grabbed my person against my will even without nerve pain.

I’m the same if someone grabs my neck. Immediate and automatic lashing out. Adults shouldn’t grab adults or tickle them. It’s strange.

LondonLass2026 · 14/08/2026 13:46

Oh I've just seen you were barefoot with your legs up on her sofa. She was still wrong but your op made it sound like you were all out at a restaurant.

Pushmepullu · 14/08/2026 13:49

No one but no one touches my feet. Anyone who tries to is told that their mouth is likely to make acquaintance with my fist. No one has dared to test this.

FaceEatingLeopard · 14/08/2026 13:49

Is this like a social meeting for people with custard for brains?

PatioDwellers · 14/08/2026 13:51

She's a weirdo - avoid her.
