AIBU to avoid someone who thinks she’s funny but actually hurt me.

At a casual lunch, a woman I know very slightly changed her seat to be near me, then suddenly started gouging the sole of my foot with her nails, I suppose as an attempt to tickle me.

As I have serious nerve pain in my feet, it was excruciating. It still hurts.
She didn’t stop until I had said No, stop, more than once.
I know she didn’t know about the nerve pain but still, who does that? And doesn’t stop when asked.
I wish I had screamed in her face.

AIBU to think she’s a loon who should be carefully avoided?

If someone touched my feet, I told them to stop but they carried on then I’d be done with them. I don’t have nerve damage just boundaries from people who are twats.

hotmumshit · 14/08/2026 00:15

I think she just sounds weird. End of.

Maybe she was coming onto you!

Doingtheboxerbeat · 14/08/2026 00:18

It's a bit risky to touch someone's feet without knowing if they are ticklish, you could end up losing teeth.

MultiBead · 14/08/2026 00:20

She didn’t stop until I had said No, stop, more than once

This makes zero sense as one would assume you’d move your foot immediately.

I was on a sofa and I had tucked my feet up beside me. I was kind of stuck.

I wasn’t near anyone else. She moved across the room to sit there.

Even without nerve pain, that's weird behaviour. Who tickles someone else's feet at lunch? I wouldn't expect a lover to do it, let alone a vague acquaintance. It's just not done to touch someone without permission.

Darragon · 14/08/2026 11:11

WTAF who does that?!?!

Echobelly · 14/08/2026 11:15

I'd mostly avoid her because she's weird and disrespectful!

MeanwhileinGilead · 14/08/2026 11:17

Was it perhaps her "quirky" way of indicating disapproval of your putting your feet up on the sofa - like the bros who run over and sit on your bag on the train to "teach you a lesson" for putting it in the empty seat next to you, even though the train's practically empty?

But if course YANBU to avoid her; you have no obligation to interact with her.

I thought the same thing.

CustardySergeant · 14/08/2026 11:19

I don't know how gouging with nails could possibly be interpreted as an attempt to tickle.

IamSmarticus · 14/08/2026 11:19

That's just weird, who touches someone else's feet? I would have kicked her hands off.

You shouldn't have had your feet up on the sofa though, unless it was your own obviously!

NC9000 · 14/08/2026 11:20

What the hell type of casual lunch involves touching a foot? I don't even know how to advise because this scenario is so bizarre!

You should have said that before. I imagined someone who was crouching under the table to tickle your feet. Either way, it's weird.

BigGra · 14/08/2026 11:26

All sounds very odd. How did you end up bare footed sitting on a sofa at a casual lunch ? Was it in someone’s else’s home ?
The odd set up aside, had anyone so much as even placed a finger on, or anywhere around my bare feet I’d have made it very clear to back off via a swift kick.

thenightsky · 14/08/2026 11:26

My instinct would be to kick out. I hate my feet being touched!

Cherrysoup · 14/08/2026 11:26

This is one of the weirdest things I’ve ever read on here. How bizarre!

MoreLikeTwilight · 14/08/2026 11:26

One does read some very odd things on here.

Monstershark · 14/08/2026 11:28

Yeah agree , she thought your feet on a seat was gross. Although she could have been grown up and told uou

Yetone · 14/08/2026 11:36

Surely you would have just moved your feet to the floor! It is not on putting your feet on a sofa that someone else will use. What a strange post.

theonlyonestillawake · 14/08/2026 11:39

This is so strange. Yes, avoid her, she's a loon. BUT, why didn't you move your feet the floor the minute she touched you?

I'm not precious about feet on the sofa, and can understand how you would end up bare foot in someone's house- arrive in sandals because it's hotter than the surface of the sun outside, and then find it's a shoes off household, but I cannot comprehend telling someone not to touch me and then sitting there whilst she did it again?!

thestudio · 14/08/2026 11:40

Yes I think she was saying ‘eww get your feet off the sofa that’s gross’ but without using her words.

tbh both things are weird!

AgnesX · 14/08/2026 11:40

I can't understand why she'd touch your feet in the first place. Equally I can't understand why you'd have your bare feet on someone else's sofa at lunchtime either.

Both are just strange..

CustardySergeant · 14/08/2026 11:42

Where was this? Your home? Hers?

snurtifier · 14/08/2026 11:42

This is one of the weirdest threads I've seen for ages.
