Next week it’s going to forecast rain and cooler weather. Yay! Dreading the next few days beforehand

No one should moan about it raining until the grass has turned green.

I’ve just read that Norfolk Fire and Rescue has 16 emergencies currently!

Ita so scary. One of our fires is next to a BP garage

I can't bloody wait. This heat has been an absolute killer for me this summer. I'm on meds that affect my body's cooling system so I have felt absolutely awful on days when it's topped 30 degrees. I feel like my life has been put on hold for 3 months because I've had to cancel so many things - a dentist appointment,2 medical appointments, 2 physiotherapy appointments and my DD's birthday meal, all of which fell on days that were over 32 degrees. I just could not face going out and having to travel on buses, which are a good 5 or 6 degrees hotter than outside.

squidgybits · 13/08/2026 18:15

Yes, they should be complaining to greedy water companies and the government who refuse to stop the massive leaks or build reservoirs, while giving massive bonuses to CEO's

Im actually considering coming off the mini pill because that can make it even worse

Where l live we have had rain during the night, about5 times ,erienc it was really hammering down. But the days have been beautiful like everyone else is experiencing. My lawns aren't too bad to be fair. We are not in a drought area, so hosepipe the gardens and plants every evening

I live just outside London and this summer has nearly finished me off.

If there’s one good thing to come out of it is (hopefully) more scrutiny of the egregiously criminal behaviour of the water companies. From the multi million pound salaries and bonuses of the shameless Thames Water bosses, to the ex Southern Water boss being charged with manipulating the results of water quality tests it’s just a decades long saga of utter contempt for the environment and the people who pay bills.

I’m no anarchist but I know who I’d put first against the wall when the revolution comes!

Nope, they've just announced they are putting rates up!

HPFA · 13/08/2026 18:27

In our area the weather forecast keeps predicting rain a week ahead and then it vanishes!

Would love it to happen but will believe it when I see it.

It gets very tiresome:

*to be approaching 6 weeks of drought, plants and tree dying and we can’t water them
*animal rescues appealing for funds because they have no grass for their animals and hay is not available even if it were affordable
*farmers selling lambs because they can’t feed them,
*farmers going out of business because the heat means that their yields are so low,
*everything dried to a brown crisp,
*much loved heathland so devastatingly incinerated that the topsoil is mineralised and temperatures are up to 600C a depth of a metre below the surface
*no rain forecast for weeks
*fire and rescue services stretched to beyond endurance

Sorry that’s tedious for you.

Edited

I'm not disputing any of that or saying it's tiresome.

What's tiresome is it being constantly on the news that this is happening "in the UK", making it sound like everyone is affected.

The UK is more than England.

Floatlikeafeather2 · 12/08/2026 09:12

Because, whether you care or not, all around you birds, insects and animals are dying. That's the reality. Ask yourself why farmers need rain; it's so that you have food to eat. And it's not just about growing crops, it's about feeding animals to produce milk and meat and having decent soil to start sowing crops for next year. You can't just ignore the realities just because you want a "proper summer", which, by the way, this absolutely isn't.
You'll be eating your words when you find your grocery bill has risen horrifically.

Also this weather is a constant reminder about the sorry state of the climate. It’s deeply concerning.
Also, I feel dreadful in this weather. A bit unwell and depressed. I feel sorry for the vulnerable out there. This weather affects us all differently - some people are really, really not made for it.

ednakenneth · 13/08/2026 18:33

I saw a woman today and very young in thick black tights and a cardigan. I could have screamed at her and asked her if she was crazy
I can't wait until it rains and then I can get a decent night's sleep

God yes. It's been a miserable summer. It's felt like the October holidays with the weather we've had in the Highlands! Yesterday and today are the first days we haven't had rain in so long. No sunshine but it was 18°c today! Woohoo. Kids are absolutely gutted we haven't had the paddling pool out once this summer, they're back to school next week.

We've had some proper ninja rain today and yesterday in the Borders. Proper big fat drops. All it's done all year is rain, rain, rain and it's been cold as fuck this week barring the last 2 days. Our local reservoir is higher than normal.

Unfortunately this site is very SE focused.

Snuggleup · 13/08/2026 18:41

I love the rain, i love all the weather mumsnet hates.
Storms, fog frost, rough winds rain dark bitter damp / wet drizzly days rougher the better.

Mumtotornadoes · 13/08/2026 18:42

The thing I'm worried about is if we get alot of rain the ground is too hard to take it and it'll go from drought to flash flood. We absolutely need some rain though or we're going to have big issues. Farmers I know are already dipping into their hay harvest from this year. Last year was a bad year too, followed by too much rain through winter. It's about time we got the right amount of rain!

restingbitchface30 · 13/08/2026 18:43

I will never complain about the rain ever again. I mean, that’s a lie, I might. But you get my point

noscotlandnoparty · 13/08/2026 18:45

North coast of Scotland here - it has done nothing but rain the entire summer. Sick fed up with it. Honestly, worst summer I have known in the 20 odd years I have lived here. Everything is green and overgrown.

I do feel for everyone in their heatwaves, but fuck it's been bleak up here!

Our schools go back next week, so the sun will likely shine!

I'm in Brum and desperate for rain. I'm visiting my friend next week in Glasgow and really hope it rains 😂

Non stop rain in Glasgow from Monday you'll be glad to hear

Gettingbysomehow · 13/08/2026 18:49

The last flash flood flooded our whole town and all the shops (Glastonbury) luckily for me I live outside the town. My friends houses were flooded.
I think if we get a torrential downpour it could well happen again as the ground id bone dry and hard.

bumblingbovine49 · 13/08/2026 18:50

Apart from the very hottest mid 30s days, Ive really enjoyed the last few weeks. I've found the weather a really nice temperature

We do news rain though, the drought is getting to be a real problem and the fires are a real issue 2 months without rain really ia too long

London. I will believe it when I see it.
It's a mirage.

I feel your pain. Staines upon Thames here with all the extra heat from LHR. I thought my composite decking was going to melt !!

BobbySox71 · 13/08/2026 18:55

This drought is costing me extra as I have to feed my horse, normally don’t need to in the summer.
On a serious note the ‘bread and butter of this country’ farmers are really suffering and so will the food we eat. Food prices will go up and we’ll be relying more on imported food,

justasking111 · 13/08/2026 18:56

It's too late for the farmers. Arable, cattle and sheep. The swallows are departing early. The garden birds have vanished. Pets are suffering. Our mountains and many others have had terrible fires.

I can't see see an upside for the UK and Europe.

No one should moan about it raining until the grass has turned green.

My grass is lovely and green. I live on the Northumberland coast and am old enough to remember the tight fisted, short sighted, miserable clowns in the South East refusing to contribute to Kielder reservoir as it was an 'Unnecessary white elephant'. Guess what? My sprinklers are on all day.

NotAtMyAge · 13/08/2026 19:06

The whole of Wales is officially in drought. I live in Mid-Wales and there's no mention of rain in our forecast for the next 7 days.
