Next week it’s going to forecast rain and cooler weather. Yay! Dreading the next few days beforehand

No one should moan about it raining until the grass has turned green.

It can rain for 2 hours over night and that’s it!!
I'm loving this summer we’re actually having, like the summers I remember from when I was a child!!

You remember temperature of 38.1 when you were a child?

Gonners · 13/08/2026 21:33

@Cariadm Here in Cornwall South West Water literally 'take the piss' and amongst other misdemeanours they blatantly and continuously allow raw sewage to flow into our beautiful seas, rivers and waterways while the 'toothless tiger' which is the EA tuts and does nothing!

I live on the East Kent coast and we have exactly the same situation here with Southern Water. They don't so much "take the piss" as "dole out the shit". I see holidaymakers swimming in the sea and think "Rather you than me!"

Gwenhwyfar · 13/08/2026 21:36

If I've got water pouring down my face, onto my glasses, making my socks wet, I'll complain!

London. Awful here. Whole city smells like a urinal. Can’t wait for rain.

Yeah I've noticed this in prolonged hot weather; everything stinks - bins, drains, pavements, when you think what goes on them, and normally the rain would clean them, so it's horrible at the minute.

Meteorite87 · 13/08/2026 21:37

I'll celebrate rain if it comes. The latest Kent forecast was "There might be some storms but they won't change the overall weather system".

I'm not in Kent but our local weather presenter said pretty much the exact same thing earlier. Had to resist the urge to lob the remote at him!

Seabreeze18 · 13/08/2026 21:45

I have absolutely loved the heat and the constant sun and although we need rain and I will enjoy a bit of it I want the sun to stay!

ForCandidDuck · 13/08/2026 21:51

Mooselander · 12/08/2026 08:49

YABU. I’ll moan as much as I want about rain because I hate the rain and love it hot, hot, hot.

Edited

Me too, it'll rain enough from October to next May let's enjoy the sun whilst it's here. People always moan about having rubbish summers we get a lovely summer for once and people want the rain... can't win lol i just can't help but feel sad about seeing rain forecasted next week!

You can all thank me for the rain. Last week I booked a last minute week off and an AirBnB in the Cotswolds for next week.

Next day I looked at the 10 day forecast and a load of rain clouds had appeared all over it.

So, it's obviously entirely my fault. Maybe I could start a business booking holidays in rain-starved places, bring the rain back to them!

How do you fancy a week away in North Hampshire? There's not a drop of rain in our forecast at all it looks like the Sahara.

justasking111 · 13/08/2026 22:00

I've just opened the sitting room windows now it's dark. Sat down and I can smell smoke. Goodness knows where it's coming from but it's making me twitchy.

Maybe because today on the news I'm seeing fires close to homes all over. Sefton park had a fire today from a BBQ. What eejits are still lighting BBQs. It's too hot to stand over one anyway.

AutisticMumOf2 · 13/08/2026 22:03

I hope it rains all week. 😂

i think its time to start handing out hefty fines to ppl who do this. and the money can go towards the cost of fighting the fires.

An understandable response on your part tbf.

Keha · 13/08/2026 22:10

I would love rain. Everything is so dry. This summer, it's really hitting home that we need to make big changes to our lives or this and more will be the norm of the future.

Daftypants · 13/08/2026 22:15

I don’t understand some Scottish people complaining that we haven’t had hot weather up here ?
We have had some lovely days , some cooler days and some days that were far too hot !
My garden faces SW unfortunately and I do what I can to keep the back of the house shaded .
We need some rain and I prefer the sort of summers where it sits about 20c and it doesn’t stop you from doing anything / even if you’re busy and rushing around you’re not going to overheat

WerewolfOfLoudon · 13/08/2026 22:33

AnneShirleyBlythe · 13/08/2026 19:39

And even then July is unpredictable! We have a few birthdays in July. Weather has been mixed over the years inc one year when we organised a bbq. Two people out in the garden cooking under a gazebo while the rest watched from the window!

ETA where I live we joke summer is the best day of the year!

Edited

😂 We have had many BBQs in the rain, even in Thunder and Lightning one year! Early August birthday and family had travelled for a surprise party ... they were very surprised.
Typical here that only yesterday was cloudy to not see the eclipse, today or Tuesday would have been ideal.

We also use the gazebo for the pool ... just because it's raining doesn't mean it isn't warm.

Crispynoodle · 13/08/2026 22:39

I will absolutely moan about the rain I am entitled! Since I live in Northern Ireland! Tbf am very glad we’re not getting the heat the rest of the UK has even though my very green garden is woefully overgrown since I haven’t been able to get out to it!

RaraRachael · 13/08/2026 23:12

@Daftypants Since the start of the holidays I'd say we've had 3 days I would class as hot, including yesterday but it was overcast. I have worn a summer dress once and ditto for sitting out on my bench.

Normally when it's in the 30s in England we get about 25 but this year it seems to havd stuck around 18.

It's one of the poorest summers I can remember in a long time.

The summer when there were stand pipes where I lived 🤣🤣
Summers always used to be hot n dry 🤦🏻‍♀️

anon666 · 13/08/2026 23:57

I will never again moan about our rainy summers. If they ever return. 😔

bluewanda · 14/08/2026 00:03

RhosynCymru · 12/08/2026 08:42

After the hell we’ve had for the last almost four months I never want to hear anyone whine we “never get a summer “! It’s driven me to a mental breakdown as well as making me very physically ill and on a wider scale I am extremely worried about the consequences on wildlife, crops, etc. Rain is not my favourite weather as the only weather I like is cold, dry and frosty (not that i think I’ll see that ever again) but I appreciate we desperately need a lot of rain and anticipate that in a desperate attempt to balance itself out, nature will supply an absolute deluge later this year.

Yes, absolute morons, the lot of them (unfortunately there are quite a few on here).

Summers always used to be hot n dry 🤦🏻‍♀️

Was it in the UK?

If not, how relevant is it to the climate change in the UK?

Or was it just The One Hot Summer of 1976?

GoodEveningDennis · 14/08/2026 06:46

Would it be impossible to move water from wet parts of the country to dry ones? We’ve had a drier summer than usual here in NI but everything is still green.
i’m presuming it is impossible otherwise surely by now we’d be doing it.
if we took advantage of the rainy days and saved water properly could there be enough supply to give some to farmers for summer watering?
