Next week it’s going to forecast rain and cooler weather. Yay! Dreading the next few days beforehand

No one should moan about it raining until the grass has turned green.

YABU. I’ll moan as much as I want about rain because I hate the rain and love it hot, hot, hot.

Edited

and I'll bet you'll be the first moaning when food prices rocket because we have to import everything bc we can't grow anything here.

Well it's raining here and everyone who wanted it to rain can come round and deal with my autistic 6 year old who loves to be outside but not in the rain. He has very limited understanding but as you were all so keen for it to rain you are free to come round and distract him,/deal with his meltdowns.

OriginalSkang · 17/08/2026 09:44

I am extremely happy that it rained! And will stick with my own autistic child's meltdowns, sorry!

I feel very sorry for you dealing with this. But rain is important to everyone, we need rain to grow food and have water. I'm sure your child would be even more affected without food and water.

Then we obviously don't have the same child. He started his meltdown at 6am and although is calmer now I can see his tension bubbling and it's supposed to rain all week. Our area couldn't be that badly affected didn't even have a hosepipe ban. And if the rain carries on like this anything growing will be ruined because the ground is too hard to absorb the rain.so it's just sitting on the surface.

I know how hard meltdowns are, some autistic people suffer meltdowns many times a day to completely normal events, it is hard. But we need rain, that's just a fact of life. Without rain the whole planet and every life on it including plants would die.

Poppinpoppinpopcorn · 17/08/2026 10:19

Well I'm happy it's raining we need it. The cooler weather will also help ease my arthritis which has been horrendous due to the weather for weeks

I wanted it to rain, and I also have an autistic child who loves the outdoors but hates being wet.

Yes it’s hard, but I’d imagine it’s been a lot harder for firefighters, wildlife, and the people who have lost their homes over the weekend.

Well said.

It depends.

If it’s gentle and brings back hydration, fine. If it pours and pours and we end up with flooding I think people have a right to moan!

If there's a risk of flooding yes people have a right to moan. It's not been very light here and stoping by this afternoon. Moaning because a child carnt go out to play when this is the first we've had for 2 months seems ridiculous. I know meltdowns are hard, I've dealt with them but you just get on and deal with it not wishing everyone else should deal with it just because they wanted rain.

No I agree that is totally ridiculous. Absolutely pathetic parenting from them.

Pathetic parenting ?! Wow just wow. You have no fucking Idea

Seaitoverthere · 17/08/2026 14:51

So lovely to see the rain here in SW this morning though it wasn’t much. Hoping there will be more later this week.

Nothing will ever please everyone, has always been the case and always will be. Clearly we desperately need rain in the parts off the UK in drought.

I’m sorry but we’re British. You’re telling me in six years your son hasn’t learned to cope with the rain?

Why? I'm loving the current weather. Don't really want rain

See my knees are fine at over 28/29 degrees. Stiff and painful the colder it gets

I am glad it rains today and I would be happy to grit my teeth to deal with the meltdowns. Yes I do have an autistic child.

You don't notice how brown everything? Nature is probably really struggling but you don't want rain?

I’m in an area where there hasn’t been a shortage of rain so I demand a free pass to moan when it does rain again.

Granted! 😊

ItsPickleRick · 17/08/2026 22:46

It’s finally raining heavily here and is forecast to carry on for a good four hours. Thank God!

Yes, that's kind of the point when they are severely autistic. There are many things he can't cope with. Rain is one of them. I can't tell you how much fun it is trying to get him from the front door to the car door on a school day if it's raining.
