Next week it’s going to forecast rain and cooler weather. Yay! Dreading the next few days beforehand

No one should moan about it raining until the grass has turned green.

In desperate need of rain. Very close to home for me. I can’t believe some people are saying it still isn’t hot enough. I live in a city - we shouldn’t be experiencing wild fires

Fire and smoke from a fire near homes in Stoke-on-Trent

Multiple fires destroy homes and cause devastation in West Midlands

The region's fire chief says the service took thousands of 999 calls across "one of the most significant" incidents in its history.

The rain looks like hardly anything, we will probably get about 1mm if we are lucky

cariad1976 · 14/08/2026 06:49

We have wild fires burning here and desperately need the rain. Our firefighters and farmers are exhausted from trying to contain them.

Was it in the UK?

If not, how relevant is it to the climate change in the UK?

Or was it just The One Hot Summer of 1976?

It’s delusional to think that there’s been nothing like this since 1976

UK heatwaves: How the records tell a changing story

Heatwaves are a familiar feature of UK summers, but the way they are recorded and understood has changed over time.

I would happily welcome some rain. I would take my family out to the park and let them run wild.
But unfortunately my app said it's still warm all week with only one day of a possibility of rain..
Even on the BBC weather it's saying 26 in my area today but my phone is telling me it's 32 today. Can't even trust the weather.

Whilst you’re not being unreasonable at all, there is no way this will ever stop: we’re British!!! Moaning about the weather is a national pastime and in our DNA!! 😉

What is delusional is claiming this year’s weather is just how summer used to be.

Dutchhouse14 · 14/08/2026 07:58

Of course I will be moaning, lol. I have absolutely loved this summer.
The weather had been amazing, a bit too hot at times but beautiful blue skies and sunshine is so uplifting.
My garden does desperately need the rain, if only it can just rain overnight I will be happy, I dont really like the grey days, this hot weather wont last much longer so Im going to enjoy it while it lasts and I will be a bit sad when it ends although I know we do need the rain.

LeahLine · 14/08/2026 08:03

Maybe we'll get another in 2076 if the weather is on a 50 year cycle. I'll be dead and gone but if you're younger, it's something to hope for.

Yes the UK!
one summer with stand pipes, every other summer was always hot and very dry!
🤣
ffs, it’s summer, we get enough bloody cold wet weather every year, why can’t people just enjoy the nice weather instead of whinging about it!!
it’s a long winter every year due to the weather, majority of people still had their heating on March/April 🤣

I live just outside London and this summer has nearly finished me off.

If there’s one good thing to come out of it is (hopefully) more scrutiny of the egregiously criminal behaviour of the water companies. From the multi million pound salaries and bonuses of the shameless Thames Water bosses, to the ex Southern Water boss being charged with manipulating the results of water quality tests it’s just a decades long saga of utter contempt for the environment and the people who pay bills.

I’m no anarchist but I know who I’d put first against the wall when the revolution comes!

And all the underground leaking pipes, the fact that no new reservoirs have been built in decades which would hold all the rain we get and wed never be on a "drought" yet population of the UK has grown and all the new builds going up but no extra infrastructure Dr Dentist etc etc
I was in Greece 2weeks ago, it was over 30 every day but all the gardens in the hotel were beautiful & green they were watered every day we were never told not to use the showers etc just goes to show how gullible people are for believing the uk government

Two reservoirs haven't been created because of public opposition. There have been public inquiries. One in Abingdon, one in Suffolk. The NIMBY element succeeded. It's not always the water board who are at fault.

The objections have recently been over turned by the Labour government and will now go ahead.

Tuesdayschild50 · 14/08/2026 08:46

We do need rain we went for a walk yesterday even the trees were limp in the park just shows how dry it really is not just grass deep down roots for trees etc ... I love our greenery in UK I wouldn't want to live in arrid dusty countries id hate it .

justasking111 · 13/08/2026 22:00

I've just opened the sitting room windows now it's dark. Sat down and I can smell smoke. Goodness knows where it's coming from but it's making me twitchy.

Maybe because today on the news I'm seeing fires close to homes all over. Sefton park had a fire today from a BBQ. What eejits are still lighting BBQs. It's too hot to stand over one anyway.

How were things overnight?

I'm in north hampshire, its already 30° in the front garden.

Dragonfly97 · 14/08/2026 09:25

The government need to appoint a Minister for Drought, like they did in 1976. Then it will rain.

Debtdolly · 14/08/2026 09:58

Obviously the rain is much needed.

However, I reserve the right to moan when it looks like every day of my caravan holiday is going to be a rainy washout. Bloody typical!

Gettingbysomehow · 14/08/2026 11:12

Hang on a minute, let me go and buy a really expensive new summer dress. It will rain until Christmas.

Nanof1boyand1ontheway · 14/08/2026 11:27

So large swathes of green land can be destroyed to make solar & wind farms which don't reduce our bills, yet people object to a reservoir? In Cardiff years ago there was plans to empty & build houses over a reservoir here but the people stopped it happening. The reservoir doesn't serve the homes in Cardiff its for industrial use but still at least its still there. Its a nice walk around it & lots of birds etc so reservoirs are good for us & nature. Why would folk object to them being built? I'd rather see that than the 10000+ houses being built on countryside land at the back of where I live. No new roads, Dr's dentist, shops, schools, just houses

Njuy · 14/08/2026 11:55

I buy an additional fan in Jan or Feb. Then hopefully the summer of 27 will be a damp n cold one

I’m now frantically trying to get all the washing done before the rain starts Monday. It’ll be too hot to put the radiators on next week to dry stuff and hanging clothes on an airer doesn’t seem to work much in my house - they start to smell funny. I’ve got a dehumidifier as well. No tumble drier - a combo washer drier and the drier part is useless and takes forever and creases everything and they also smell funny.

Hope your logic works! I’m about to get air conditioning installed during the winter thanks to a small inheritance hopefully and if Sod’s Law works I won’t need it next year!

How many of us have blamed others for a cold, wet summer when they bought new garden furniture etc?

I don't disagree with the alert- I live near Bristol Downs and for months people have been having bbq's and some elaborate fires too.
Stupid is as stupid does- there are people who just don't give a shit.
The Welsh have asked for military aid for fires and some stupid woman on a local group said she had not heard of any fires.
Smell the air love- places like Gloucester and Cheltenham have had the smoke.
Just be safe everyone. X

ForeverTheOptomist · 15/08/2026 01:24

Oh - and I hate to admit it, but I love a hot and sunny summer! (but not the fires)
