Next week it’s going to forecast rain and cooler weather. Yay! Dreading the next few days beforehand

No one should moan about it raining until the grass has turned green.

You love it even more especially in England, when life becomes harder because this becomes a regular summer thing and food prices start going up along with water bills and the rest of it.🙄

Surely if it becomes a regular summer thing then life will have to change and the country adapt. Or is the UK way to simply try and moan your way out of difficult situations?

OriginalSkang · 13/08/2026 09:24

Yep, our forecast 30% chance of rain is gone now. Sun forever 😢

RaraRachael · 13/08/2026 10:06

Just be thankful blah blah blah. You must be Scotland or N Ireland? It’s different in different places. 30 degrees here, 34 expected in other areas and going to be hotter this afternoon and tomorrow. Even hotter in some central parts of England, up to 38.

The drought is extending into next week and most likely beyond that. It’s not funny anymore.

Of course there will be adaptations but you have to understand the scale of the problem. It’s not just a question of getting AC, solar panels and suncream. It’s farming, biodiversity, health, food and water infrastructure. “Get used to it and suck it up like we do”, trivialises what’s happening and ignores the fact that all other countries are facing difficult challenges?

It is necessary to protect different species, protect buildings, adapt farming methods and so on. Even Australia is struggling to adapt, but it’s true that we in the UK need a national adaptation strategy.

@HoppityBunyes I'm in Scotland. We don't want wall to wall 35 degrees but we've had 3 hot days the whole summer. It's been pathetic.
It just gets very tiresome hearing on the news that It's the "Hottest xyz in the UK" when it doesn't apply to the whole UK.

springvegetables · 13/08/2026 17:47

It’s 38 degrees where I live currently. The police have closed our whole town down due to 3 different fires, 2 shed fires which have spread and a parkland area. This heat is horrible and I do not understand why anyone would enjoy this.

TheDenimPoet · 13/08/2026 17:48

We need the rain, but someone needs to invent a way to make it happen at night, and then be sunny in the day. Then everyone's happy.

Missingpop · 13/08/2026 17:50

We’re British all we ever do is moan about the weather; the price of fuel; the cost of living; our neighbours; the dog down the road barking; the government; letting prisoners out early; the little shits on e-scooter/e-bike the lack of discipline with the youth of today; the disrespect amongst the youth of today !! Do I need to go on the British people aren’t happy unless they’re moaning they’re a bunch of miserable old farts; but be the one that breaks the mould be happy it’s pissing down & that tge ground is to hard to absorb the water so everywhere is fucking flash flooding; I hope that answers your post

I’ve just read that Norfolk Fire and Rescue has 16 emergencies currently!

It rained here last week, I watched it coming down and evaporating before it hit the ground.

I'm really hoping for some seriously heavy rain, my pots need it, but we all know that floods will follow and we'll be seeing all these housing estates built on flood plains, flooded to ceiling height.

I have never complained about the rain, just when it's too much wind. Hasn't rained where I am since May! I'll go and stand out in it. 😀

DanNW2025 · 13/08/2026 18:00

Of course we can moan. It’s August, it is summer, last summer like this was 2020 won’t have another until 2030s most likely. It is going to pour down for about 8 months soon enough.

if we weren’t inept at everything grass would be green and nobody would be moaning.

I have loved the hot weather, feel like we have had a proper summer this year…. One I remember from when I was a child in the 90s.

we absolutely need rain now though and I definitely will be glad of it. 😍

It just gets very tiresome hearing on the news that It's the "Hottest xyz in the UK" when it doesn't apply to the whole UK.

It gets very tiresome:

*to be approaching 6 weeks of drought, plants and tree dying and we can’t water them
*animal rescues appealing for funds because they have no grass for their animals and hay is not available even if it were affordable
*farmers selling lambs because they can’t feed them,
*farmers going out of business because the heat means that their yields are so low,
*everything dried to a brown crisp,
*much loved heathland so devastatingly incinerated that the topsoil is mineralised and temperatures are up to 600C a depth of a metre below the surface
*no rain forecast for weeks
*fire and rescue services stretched to beyond endurance

Sorry that’s tedious for you.

Njuy · 12/08/2026 08:59

First 6-8 weeks of this year it was constant rain.
I work in an office which is 15 miles away. On the A road which I drive for about 5 miles, the fields either side were flooded. Six months later, the fields are desert

And no new resevoirs to catch the water in the SE

Dreadful state of affairs

MaidOfSteel · 13/08/2026 18:02

YABU for bragging about good weather. Here in my bit of not so delightful western Scotland, we have had 2 or 3 hottish & sunny days. All summer. The rest of the time it has been cloudy and there’s been lots of rain.

It is soul destroying, the Scottish weather. I’m beginning to think I might have SAD, in what should be summer, as well as all autumn and winter.

DinoLil · 13/08/2026 18:02

I was so excited to see a forecast of a week of rain and storms ahead when I looked yesterday. Checked again today and it's back to high temps, sun and absolutely not a drop of rain. I could howl!!

We need gentle rain to start and when that's soaked in a good old downpour Loverly..

It can rain overnight.
Thats as far as I’m going.

Yup me too. Also we’re going on holiday to Devon next week. Will still go out in it though. Just have to pack waterproofs.

MerryUmberHedgehog · 13/08/2026 18:04

Agree. Im getting a watering can tatoo to commemorate the amount of watering Ive done this year.

God yes. It's been a miserable summer. It's felt like the October holidays with the weather we've had in the Highlands! Yesterday and today are the first days we haven't had rain in so long. No sunshine but it was 18°c today! Woohoo. Kids are absolutely gutted we haven't had the paddling pool out once this summer, they're back to school next week.

Bryonyberries · 13/08/2026 18:06

I have enjoyed the sunshine and warmth but we could definitely have done with some thunderstorms dotted amongst it to keep everything alive.

At this point I am struggling to keep certain new plants alive as they were planted shortly before the lack of rain in spring.

I won’t be moaning about the rain for a while - although I do hate cold winter rain. A few summer storms would be most welcome right now.
