Next week it’s going to forecast rain and cooler weather. Yay! Dreading the next few days beforehand

No one should moan about it raining until the grass has turned green.

Met office data seems to have NE England as still being dryer and warmer than usual years patterns - less so than rest of country but more so than the norm for whole region.

So I don't know if this is a perception issue or a very local varriation - as micro climates can have big effects or the met office data for this year I've found is just wrong.

Thanks for the data, I'm just basing it on being outside every day, same as every other year. The temperature difference between north and south is significantly greater than usual this year. I've been in London and Edinburgh in person too on several occasions, so not just looking at the forecast.

dontforgetme · 12/08/2026 18:27

West Mids here and this summer has ruined me. We are predicted some rain/storms and a glorious 22 degrees!!

Agree, there are some really thick people on MN banging on about how wonderful it all is. They really are ignorant if they think this year is a one off for extreme heat.
We can't always 'just import foods' because other countries are in the same position as us. and will need more for their own people. Food prices will go up on many things, people will be complaining they can't buy xyz - really? There was no rain to help grow the bloody stuff. But we have the heat to who cares if there is a shortage on certain foods come winter? If the same happens next year and the crops fail again through lack of rain we could really be in the shit.
I was talking with someone the other day who said if the crops fail and there is a bread shortage she would go over to eating muffins or cereals like Weetabix. What a total fuckwit. When I pointed out about wheat might not be sp plentiful so less bakery and cereal products available she looked at me as if I was the stupid one. "Well, Tesco will always have bread and what I need to buy" was the response. You can'r argue with idiots.
Okay love, keep your ignorant head up your ignorant arse.

Fuck me What An Idiot

RaraRachael · 12/08/2026 18:40

I'm looking forward to not having the news dominated by the heatwaves.

Not everybody's had them. We've had a shit summer even by usual standards.

DrCoconut · 12/08/2026 18:53

As long as it waits until my roof repair is done.

HangryBrickShark · 12/08/2026 19:28

I do hope it rains. Horses need to eat grass. Period.

WatchingTheStarsFromMyHammock · 12/08/2026 19:42

It needs to rain. I would prefer it to rain now, not when I am away from the end of next week. It would be sod's law that having experienced precisely one brief shower in the last 2 months or so, it will decide to rain non stop exactly when I go on holiday.

I was on holiday during the first heatwave, but it was 16c and foggy where I was 🤦‍♀️

After the hell we’ve had for the last almost four months

I take issue with this hyperbole. I live in the driest hottest bit of the uk.
Mays weather was shit up to half term which was the first of the heatwaves. It then cooled down. So a week.

June and July have been reliably hot and dry. We are week 2 of August.

So literally spring was wet and cold and summer has been hot and dry.

No hyperbole. I’ve been ill since May with the heat and it’s nearly mid August and no sign of any let up. I am on a health warning that I may have to stay off work in future if we get this every year because I’ve passed out so many times in it.

Livpool · 12/08/2026 19:45

Mooselander · 12/08/2026 08:49

YABU. I’ll moan as much as I want about rain because I hate the rain and love it hot, hot, hot.

Edited

Same! People who don’t like hot weather seem
to think they are in the right regarding it being too hot. Despite the fact that their favoured weather is how it is for 3 quarters of the year!

Paddyshanks · 12/08/2026 19:51

I have loved every second of these heatwaves. It has had an immeasurable effect on my mental health to have a proper summer for the last 2 years.

It can chuck it down all winter if it wants but long may this type of summer continue!!!

MagneticSquirrel · 12/08/2026 19:57

I like this weather in the daytime so much easier to dress, not having being cold, taking a jacket / jumper / umbrella. This week during the day and rain at night say between 2-3am would be ok as a compromise!

TiggersTheOnlyOne · 12/08/2026 20:00

My concern is if it rains too much too fast our parched ground won’t be able to cope with it and it’ll cause flooding and additional issues

I’m the opposite. The heat makes me miserable. I don’t understand how people like it. It’s hot, sweaty, there’s bugs everywhere. You can’t sleep because you’re too hot, and then you’re miserable because you can’t sleep

FoxandDuck · 12/08/2026 10:21

Drat it, OP, you got me all excited then! But I’ve just checked our forecast and there’s a chance of some rain on Monday morning and that’s it. I doubt we’ll get any as, in similar forecasts, I have seen grey clouds but we haven’t had any actual rain. The farm a mile or so from us last had rain on June 23rd and I think we must be the same.
We were on holiday last week and there was a gentle shower whilst I was lying by the pool. All of those from the SE of England were immediately identifiable I felt as we just stayed where we were with a soft smile on our faces!
What I want, is for the climate to go back to proper English weather. Yes, there was the downside of never knowing what the weather would be like but, whilst I am desperate for these endless heatwaves to disappear, I didn’t enjoy the endless rain earlier in the year. I feel as though I have spent a disproportionate amount of time stuck inside this year due to either the rain or the heat

Oh my god, all of this!! We used to have it SO GOOD and we spent the whole time moaning! I never even owned a brolly before, but I had to buy one last winter because the rain has become so much heavier, longer lasting and every bloody day. It was just miserable and shit getting soaked constantly. And now I feel like a prisoner in my own home because it's too hot to spend much time outdoors, and even if I can cope with the heat, my two small children can't. My house is like a sauna, we've got the blinds and curtains closed and tinfoil on the windows so it's dark and gloomy indoors. I honestly feel like sobbing for the climate we used to have. We lived on paradise on earth and we didn't even realise it.

CinnamonBuns67 · 12/08/2026 22:38

Yanbu I can't bloody wait I never want it to be summer again

JaceLancs · 12/08/2026 22:40

I’m happy for rain to help the garden - then going away on holiday somewhere warm - by the time I return it will be Autumn

NotSmallButFunSize · 12/08/2026 22:57

I will certainly moan when it rains - rain is shit!

plsbekinddelicate · 12/08/2026 23:00

I cried earlier. I’ve had horses for 30 years and have never considered bringing in this early but find myself on the brink. Hay has gone from £35 a bale this time last year to £65 this. I will quite happily tape together the lips of any person brave enough to complain about water within a 30 mile radius!

Njuy · 13/08/2026 07:01

This heat isn’t the same as mainland Europe. Walked 10 plus miles in Andalusia, Rome, Malta in hotter weather. Yet here I struggle to walk out my road - I live in the far end of a cul de sac of 40 houses.

Pabbel · 13/08/2026 07:09

I will moan when it rains, we have had some rain lately, and my part of North has had some nice days, but not the summer/ heat of other parts of the uk

Owninterpreter · 13/08/2026 07:10

I hope it rains for the farmers. I hope its the right type of rain for farmers and reservoirs.

But if im ordering what I want, it could rain all night, every night and the summer days could be a nice bright 22 to 23 degrees, with the occasional 26 thrown in.

chedderland · 13/08/2026 07:11

I can’t wait

RayneDance · 13/08/2026 07:28

We had rain due and now it's gone

Seaitoverthere · 13/08/2026 07:56

Not much forecast here and we desperately need rain. Earlier this week there was a smell of burning and I thought what fuckwit is having a bonfire.

It was wildfires in South Wales that people could smell in Somerset, Bristol and Gloucestershire as the wind changed direction. By the look of it they are still going.

Loulou4022 · 13/08/2026 07:59

Typical cause I just paid 350 quid to get my airvon fixed! 🙄 seriously I shall be dancing in said rain I’m so sick of the heat! We were away in Shropshire last week and had cooler weather and I had to put a hoodie on and was able to sleep under a duvet it was amazing!!
