Not a huge fan of Labour I must say, but this is well overdue!

Saw the other day that there is special “Bangladeshi” social housing in London, taking into account cultural norms and for extended family living. I believe Sadiq Khan said that Muslim people want to live amongst other Muslims. Fine - but why is it the taxpayer’s job to fund this?

There seems to be no expectation of this community contributing - it’s London fgs - why are people unemployed?

Excellent. I want to live near people that are culturally like me - Can I have a social house in a 'White Christian British' area? Like York or Harrogate? Expensive areas but nothing like as expensive as London.

Why do you want diversity? What value does it bring?

She doesn’t. She’s lived in a country that’s been diverse for decades but chosen to live in a non-diverse area.

How do you propose these men “get their needs met” in Piddington, Oxon where they will outnumber the locals 4 to 1?

Where there is a village shop and a church, and nothing else except for an infrequently running bus service?

Where presumably the vast majority of women are minors or if adults, in relationships, given villages are famously not exactly fertile grounds for young single people?

Dating apps can select for larger areas if necessary so, while I understand your point, there are ways to compensate for people's concerns.

I also feel like there could be an opportunity for the government or local council to create some sort of social dating apparatus that can help willing local women make long lasting friendships/possible romantic connections with people from these communities so that they don't feel so isolated and alone.

Perhaps they're not paying out of their own pocket to come here. Perhaps enemy countries are funding it. Perhaps countries who want rid of problematic prisoners want rid of them.

Clearly someone is paying for them. Many seem to arrive well dressed and with mobile phones. They have clearly not just scraped together the money for the boat.

dontBeaWalkover · Yesterday 12:13

As soon as they arrive start training them up, they want to live and work here - let them. So theyve come on boats ? Immediately get them training for coastal rescue / lifeguard.

Street cleaning, refuse collections, if any are qualified / highly skilled fast track their background checks. We are a nation needing workers . Let them work . Leaving them unable to do anything make the situation worse.

Some of the whitest areas are also some of the cheapest places to live. And many of them have more availability of council houses for swaps than other areas. It doesn't have to be York or Harrogate which have, I am sorry to tell you, non white populations. My dentist is from there
It's remarkable how fast the conversation changed from asylum seekers specifically to general diversity/immigration levels. Hmmmm

Love, there’s no need for dating apps. Just walk up and down on the streets outside the hotels on your own late at night. You’ll have no issue getting some action.

In fact, you can do the rest of us a public service by doing this!

DebbieSavage · Yesterday 12:15

Hellokitty0 · Yesterday 12:10

If that floats your boat. You could also adopt a myriad of other misogynistic cultural traditions if you like. Go for it girl! Just don’t force it on those of us that like our safety and freedoms.

What makes you think that any man lucky enough to date me wouldn't adopt to my culture and customs? Likely it would be a case of give and take regardless. Western society doesn't do everything right and we can learn a great many things from different cultures.

Have you ever thought about relocating? I’ve heard it’s very sunny in Afghanistan.

I don't think Burnham has done much different to Starmer so far.
I was really sceptical about the "smash the gangs" rhetoric at first. But if (and it's a big if) the trend continues down then that does suggest that it is working. Even the reports of many more migrants now being sent per boat suggests a change in tactics which will be happening for a reason. It might suggest the attempts to get Germany to restrict the availability of the boats is working for example. But actually limiting the ability of the criminal gangs (and there are some very nasty people involved) from operating is going to be complicated, and difficult and need to be assessed over a long period as the criminals can change tactics too and find new ways to evade attention etc. And also needs international cooperation which was easier when we were in the EU but hopefully not impossible outside it.

As far as I know Burnham hasn't changed course on this but because it's a long term thing which needs long term attention it isn't a case of "Starmer smashed the gangs. End of problem".

There's no trend though. Numbers dropped in 2023 before rising again through 2024 and 2025. There's been a fall to date in 2026 but it's far too early to say whether it's just another fluctuation as we've seen previously. We could be asking why numbers soared so much when Labour came to power (2023: 29,437; 2024: 36,816; 2025; 41,472).

PinkBottle75 · Yesterday 12:18

I can't help but feel this is a Labour plant as there are no other posts by this user and they haven't come back to defend their position.

It's Labour once again gauging public opinion.

Last time around white women were instrumental in getting Tony Blair voted in on numerous occasions.

They're testing the water with this to see what the appetite is.

The answer is a resounding NO. We don't want more illegal immigrants in middle class areas or ANY AREAS for that matter.

It feels like an invasion of another race, 99% men, Muslim, from another culture and era of time.

Stop the boats once and for all. Reform have put out a very clear plan and I will vote for them without issue.

Andy Burnham superfically comes across as a nice chap. But he needs to do the hard work and sort these illegal crossings once and for all.

they aren't refugees or asylum seekers. They are economic migrants.

I now wait for the plant to come back and defend their position...

I am thinking that immigrants may view hostility to asylum seekers as a leading indicator - and I cannot claim originality, though I don’t have a source to hand.

I came here on a work visa. It annoys me that asylum seekers and low-skilled immigrants generally get credit for the tax and economic contributions I and other skilled immigrants make (I pay nearly £100k a year in income tax). In any case, I'm grateful to have a well-paid job here and I think this country is doing me the favour in setting up the conditions for it to exist. You guys would manage without me, I'd be worse off. I'm always slightly amazed at how little confidence British people seem to have in themselves! You have amazing talent here!

Anyway, if there were a higher bar for all immigrants, I would clear it, and would face less hostility because everyone around me would know that there is a high bar.

There is no advantage to me and people like me to having mass, low-skilled, non-integrating immigration.

The problem is, very few people think desperate people paying criminal gangs to smuggle them across the channel is a good thing. But all of the sensible options to limit this are dismissed by a segment of the population who just want to see the Royal Navy drown people. Or who just want to see stricter conditions in detention centres (because 3 meals a day is ridiculous luxury apparently). Or who have weird fantasies about ElSalvador because they saw a documentary about the prison service. The punishment is the point.
But when you point out that drowning people isn't a viable option you open yourself up to being called a typical lefty who wants women to get raped because you hate this country. And also, accused of "demonising" the pro-drowning brigade

I have many problems with Starmer but he did seem to have significantly reduced the number of small boats arriving in the UK in the short time in office. Since this was done in a boring way that didn't involve the Royal Navy murdering people, it is an inconvenient fact that can be ignored. And I am sure the patriots on the thread will be crossing their fingers that the downward trend in boat crossings doesn't continue.

Ah the “no-one is demonising people who complain about unlimited immigration” is here again to claim that everyone opposed to current levels if immigration wants to bomb the boats and drown people.

Such rational and constructive discourse.

I'm sorry I just came in this thread to dispute the accusation about asylum seeker men needing their 'sexual needs met' when they can find many local women who will be more than happy to establish long lasting relationships with them, I have no interest in getting into protracted arguments over suspicious data from countries like Germany when I know for a fact that these people are no danger to us whatsoever. They are desperate people fleeing war, famine and persecution. They need to be treated with kindness and respect, not subjected to horrendous accusations about their sexual intentions.

I just hate what's happening to society. This must be what it felt like to a sensible liberal in 1930's Germany. I am so scared.

Yes, many people are fleeing horrendous conditions. One of my closest friends parents left their country (Vietnam) as asylum seekers and went first to Australia and eventually came here as they continued to experience discrimination as a family despite contributing positively to their community, and they were welcomed here, which I am proud of.

But there is a big difference in people arriving here as families, having made efforts to learn English, and young men arriving here on their own. If conditions are so terrible and dangerous in their home countries, what sort of man leaves his wife/children/elderly parents to fend for themselves in these conditions?

No there isn't any data that proves me wrong. The data says that you are more likely to be sexually assaulted by someone who is white British. That's what the data says. So don't go copying links of various individual crimes or making up spurious claims about "grooming gangs" when the data says explicitly that it is white British men committing the majority of sexual offences.

That's all that needs to be said. Close the thread, refugees welcome. Free Palestine.

I have nothing more to say to you.

That’s probably because at the moment white people are still in the majority

but we don’t need or want to import men when we have no idea where they are from what they may have done

we have enough home grown rapist and murders without bringing in loads more

Good, it's about time there was more diversity where I live.

My dear...if the mountain won't come to Mohammed, then Mohammed must go to the mountain so why don't you pick yourself and your blanket up and move along to where you will be in a minority and enjoy all the "diversity"

Are you imprisoned where you are? What's stopping you? Jobs, houses and schools are all over the country.

By the way, most of us who have woken up and smelt the coffee know that "diverse" means a white minority...nothing diverse about it at all really-just the swapping out of one group for another.

Before you settle your blanket in your gorgeous new diverse area, nip over to Africa, Palestine and China and give them a little lecture on why there are too many African, Arabs and Chinese there.

Explain the delights of diversity to them-ask them why they have so few-if any-white lawmakers or politicians.

Go on, off you pop! Or it only the UK you want to ruin?

RowsOfFlowers · Yesterday 12:23

I'm not actually concerned about numbers. I was merely pointing out that once again, Labour has not been fully transparent. If you're asking do I think a reduction in numbers will satisfy the public, I would say no because there are other concerns that are not being heard and acted upon.

Can we put the home grown rapists and violent men in prison? Or will they continue to make a bother of themselves on the front lines of asylum hotel protests, or on the front lines of politics being supported by the likes of SYL, Farage and Musk? Oh wait, sorry, I forgot that when men Musk etc likes are accused of rape it's because they are being set up by the system.

I am beginning to think the people constantly talking about "how will these men get their needs met" have an agenda and I don't think it's a pro woman one. I think it's trying to seed the idea that mens sexual desires are needs not wants and while in the short term that's a good argument against make asylum seekers, in the long term it sets "home grown" rapists up quite nicely with an excuse ready made.
