Not a huge fan of Labour I must say, but this is well overdue!

so many comments on the telegraph page, it must be a record

He needs to lead by example and house some of these chaps himself. See how he likes it. There are enough of them near my workplace and they are awful to any passing women in the area/are really awful to anyone with a dog.

@BlaiseAnais94 oh i don't think you're a troll! I was actually just thinking that I really appreciate your contributions and the fact that you've explained your view properly instead of just calling us racist

I don't know how anybody missed the troll post. Lucky you if you did.

I did go to bed by the way - I just can't sleep.

Nope they all need to be deported immediately not housed and allowed to stay.
Nobody should have to put up with these men in their community

Agreed! Anyone entering illegally from France (safe country) should never be eligible to stay and absolutely never be housed in the kind of accommodation that they currently are. Detention centres until they are processed should be what happens (ideally returned to wherever they have come from)

AliceNotInChains · Yesterday 06:41

Yeah great idea - then the middle classes can go back to voting conservatives, reform or even restore.

DEPORT

people work hard to afford a nice home in a nice area and suddenly these spongers are handed it on a plate whilst British born working class are left to rot in mouldy bedsits

ChattyKnickers · Yesterday 06:52

I fear for our daughters. I really do.

KatiePricesKnickers · Yesterday 06:55

It’s not going to happen. As explained somewhere previously, all the cheap hotels are in ‘cheap’ working class towns and seaside resorts.

They won’t be put in hotels. They’re going to be in HMOs and then social housing, which exists everywhere.

It will only change when the ‘middle class’ are affected (though lots of areas already are). Until that happens you’ll still get those in lovely expensive areas voting Green and calling everyone racist for wanting the government to get a grip on asylum and immigration.

"these men" and their wives and children will be paying our pensions, which I personally am all in favour of.

They won’t. Economic participation is lowest in people of Arab backgrounds where 48% of over 16s are economically inactive vs 23% for White British.

Mespher · Yesterday 07:15

It will probably be the 'South' that will get them, HMOs and purpose built social housing, not hotels, that's old news and moving away from them.

We are now reaping what we sowed

Ah, the mass immigration as punishment viewpoint.

It always interests me how some groups of people (white people, to be specific) are deemed to be collectively responsible for the actions of their ancestors and some aren’t even collectively responsible for their groups current actions.

This is so true.

If an asylum seeker commits a violent crime then there is an awareness that it's not all asylum seekers and to say that would be discriminitary. However if a British man colonised a country 300 years ago we are all collectively responsible. Makes no sense

Benjithedog · Yesterday 07:18

They already are. It’s madness to think they’re not

I don't know if I'm MC or not, but my problem with the wording is that it's as if he's saying I've denied the migrants housing. I vote Labour, unless strategically required to vote otherwise to advoid right wing groups gaining power. We're socialists in my house. Never once have I been asked to vote on whether immigrants, asylum seekers, etc., can live in my area. I am not denying anyone. I'm voting for a party and then getting on with my day. If he's saying they need to build some housing in my area, crack on, this is not something within my power to sort out.

I don't know if you are middle class or not but I think an easier way to look at is is to ask yourself if you live in a predominantly white area.

If the answer to that is "yes" then you can rest assured that you will be in one of the areas that will be getting "its fair share", whether you drink a merlot with your supper or keep coal in the bath.

Andy dare not say " White areas will have to take their fair share" so he uses "middle class" instead. So transparent!

LuckyHazelFox · Yesterday 07:24

That's all you've got 🤣🤣

the trouble has come from the "protesters". And by "protesters" I mean those with the DA records who stalk and taunt women. The fine upstanding protectors.

you lot are really clutching at straws.

"Us lot" don't have our heads buried in the sands and won't be silenced. You might want to protect the danger that's now within by verbally attacking home grown protestors, but "us lot" don't presume every one of them is guilty of domestic violence. It's a lazy stereotype that's used to push your own agenda. I've lost count of the times I've seen virtue signallers complaining about groups being stereotyped who then go on to do exactly the same.

FitAt50 · Yesterday 07:26

It's because the huge majority of supporters of migrants, refugees, Palestine, trans rights etc etc are bored middle class people. They don't have mass groups of men hanging around on their streets harassing women. They don't have to battle for social housing, NHS appointments, school places etc. They have this romanticised vision of families escaping war torn countries, the reality is far different.

probablyamunreasonable · Yesterday 07:27

I live in a nice-ish small town in the south east, in a district which is quite expensive to live in (though our town is the cheaper than other areas in the district).

It’s been very noticeable lately that asylum seekers have been moved in - the town is small and there isn’t much to do or see besides a park, churchyard and small high street. We are quite rural as the nearest ‘big’ town is over 10 miles away. Everyone has noticed the groups of men hanging around with not much to do (there is virtually nothing these men can do here other than sit around the park) but whenever anyone questions it on local Facebook groups it gets quickly removed.

We don’t have any hotels here - it’s because buildings/houses/ flats have been converted to HMOs.

If it can happen here (in a rural, countryside town in the more ‘expensive’ south east) it can happen anywhere. Closing the hotels means the (men) will be placed all over the country, wherever the government can find space.

Why should anyone take them? Unfortunately Brexit has made it very hard to send them back to their first EU entry point.

Hardly any were sent back under Brexit, it was rarely utilised.

Many nations don't have an asylum system. We can just detain and deport them

I'm in one of those areas and you're absolutely right about replacing the term predominantly white areas with middle class. He's obsessed with class though is Burnham. Luckily for me, Labour never have and never will get my vote.

Sssh, we’re not allowed to talk about this. It’s a conspiracy theory, remember?

It's perhaps time that middle earners got their fair share after years of subsidising everyone else.

Benefits are the elephant in the room.

You can be better off on them than working a low paid job if you play your hand well.

My sister has just come back from York. She described the same scenes there. Once beautiful cathedral cities are now spoiled. If you say anything you're racist no, you're saying that swathes of men, coming from France, are bringing with them a culture that is at odds with our own with regards to the 'availability' of women and girls.

ChattyKnickers · Yesterday 07:35

There's a massive crowd on MN who ignore every single data and study on the violence and issues these people cause.

Not to mention all white protestors being classed as knuckle dragging wife beaters.
