Butt on display at lunch in south of France

I am currently having lunch in a beach restaurant and a girl with a lovely toned body is wearing a tiny thong with full ass on display. This seems to be a fashion thing and there are lots of women wearing the same cheese cutter! People are staring and some women are laughing. I find it a horrible trend and I am wondering what others think.

Nah, there was definitely more than an air of mocking about this young woman out in her beach wear ….
she was not hurting anyone or being a bad person …
let’s not pretend it’s ok to take the moral high ground -
she should cover up, don’t wanna give the blokes the wrong idea … ??
and all this bollocks about exposure to faeces ??
common contact sources - door handles, light switches, hand rails ….
it’s there in our community’s- just practice good hand hygiene and you’ll all be ok !!

Yes - it’s the restaurant context which is the problem.

I would be more concerned about the staring and laughing. You can control where you look- if you don't like it stare at the sea. You are at a beach, not visiting Buckingham Palace. Swim wear is appropriate

So you think its unwise to wear thong bikinis, but young women are too naive/foolish to realise that? (I mean, I don't really disagree – I did my fair share of dressing edgily/risque as a teenager while on the prowl, and only understood in my early twenties all the reasons it wasn't some display of empowerment, etc etc.)

No I never mocked her. If you read all my posts you will see that. I am not a fan of bare bottoms on display at lunch, and for me this was about being appropriately dressed in a restaurant. Yes, there have been lots of mocking comments, comments about feminism and bad hygiene comments, but that’s part of an interesting discussion. They are not necessarily my view so please don’t conflate the two.

I’m in Greece at the moment and the trend seems to be to wear normal bikini bottoms but pull it right up the arse crack as if it’s a thong. Looks bloody awful and very uncomfortable 😳 I think an actual thong can look good but this awful trend of a makeshift thong is gross 🤮

Exactly. The ott reactions and judgements are far more inappropriate than a skimpy bikini.

if someone truly had empathy in this situation, they may approach the young woman, and say I’m not sure if you are aware there are some judgey people being unpleasant- want me to say something to them ? You might want to move away from them, or are you OK ??

The context is key here. On a hot day at the beach and/or outside a beach bar or restaurant I would suggest it is not unreasonable to expect to see people in beachwear, or even nothing at all depending on the beach.

This has been discussed to death upthread.

The beach isn’t the point - som pps including me would like a layer of fabric between the backside and the chair for reasons of hygiene and basic courtesy to others.

Put a sarong or similar on for lunch. Not a lot to ask.

Exactly. Ive seen all kinds of sights in beach places. Never had an issue.
I would have an issue with the starers with faces like bulldogs chewing a wasp though.

If there is food around or not on the beach no arses.

There's just something unpleasant about the thought of sitting on something someone's bare bum has been on. To be fair though, I don't really like the idea of upper thigh sweat, either. When in swimwear, I think a sarong or cover-up is appropriate when sitting on restaurant furniture. Really, in general, I think people should just keep their bums covered, just as they keep...I don't know, their pubic mounds covered (male or female).

I suppose that'll be the next trend - bikinis and shorts that are cut to expose the pubis mons (but only in women and teenage girls)

No-one should bare their arse anywhere except their own bedroom or I suppose a designated nudist beach that is fully signposted so that people know what to expect if they go there.

People don't eat off these 'arses' do they, or even off the chairs said arses are on? If there was an alleged bare bum on the table you'd have a point.

Or just avoid going to a bar or restaurant at the beach where you might encounter (shock horror) people in beachwear, if that offends your sensitivities.

Yes. Exactly, It is false empowerment, in my experience you look good, your body is developed, you are getting more attention, it brings a false confidence.
They are not sexy or hygienic, the thoughts of putting any orifice on a dirty chair without material between your bits.
I don't judge them because it is a phase that most grow out of.
