Butt on display at lunch in south of France

1000 replies

flipperfizz · 11/08/2026 13:32

I am currently having lunch in a beach restaurant and a girl with a lovely toned body is wearing a tiny thong with full ass on display. This seems to be a fashion thing and there are lots of women wearing the same cheese cutter! People are staring and some women are laughing. I find it a horrible trend and I am wondering what others think.

Such pathetic, bullying behaviour. It's blatant, mean, and it just makes you look bad.

I'm sorry they've fixated on you, @CoffeeCantata!

I I have done is quote you

You have posted dozens of times about your aversion to bums.

Sorta relevant to this thread don’t you think?!

But against MN rules, I think you'll find.

You are not allowed to follow pps from thread to thread in that way - it's very weird and tantamount to stalking and bullying.

Oh - they won't bully me away, Otterly! Thanks for the support.

I cannot bear bullies of any age.

Nor you, it seems! You have got your teeth well into me here, Anearlyone.

I think we should let our personal differences go and allow the discussion to continue, though.

My therapist? What do you mean? If I had a therapist, why would that be something to criticise?

Are you aware that your behaviour here is bullying?

And who posted that? Names, please!

'Allseeingallknowing · Yesterday 14:04 Perhaps laughing at her will persuade her to cover up- it sounds vulgar and attention seeking'

It's just an example. There's plenty more.

If we want to empower and support women we need to stop describing actions, dress and behaviour as attention seeking, vulgar, all for the menz etc.

Mocking doesn't help. Not saying you have I'm trying to explain to you the tone of the thread if you haven't read it all.

But it is attention seeking . Completely and utterly attention seeking and gross . There is zero other reason for it . It’s not for comfort. And I’ve seen women wearing them in indoor swimming pools so it’s not for tanning either . And it’s NOT fashionable. It’s just fucking gross and you don’t see anyone else doing it apart from women. Why don’t men and children all wear them if it’s a perfectly innocent fashion ??

I can only say, Anearlyone, that you seek some help for your bullying behaviour.

It's not attractive and really undermines any argument you might try to make.

But I can't say I've noticed any coherent argument from you - just very, very nasty personal attacks. I think: either engage intelligently with the fast-moving discussion, or leave it.

There are pps on here who are following the discussion and using rational arguments to make their points.

And then there are some who just drop in with a jibe, a reductive comment or a personal attack.

Theweedshavewon · 12/08/2026 10:18

UnintentionalArcher · 11/08/2026 22:52

Agree. There’s a reductive but oft-made argument that feminism is solely about choices and that any criticism of another woman’s choices is anti-feminist. All this does is shut down critical debate about complex social behaviours that support patriarchy.

Common examples of this theme include arguments that stripping or porn is empowering for women, when in fact it’s simply seizing a very narrow form of power (sexuality) within the confines of the male gaze because genuine forms of power which would underpin a more equal society are so often out of reach.

There’s a difference between criticism and critique. An individual woman’s choices can be critiqued in the context of wider societal structures without that woman being personally shamed or blamed. This is useful and helps us to unpick why patriarchy remains so pervasive in 2026.

Claiming to be all for freedom while shutting down debate is deeply ironic and anti-feminist. Meanwhile, a certain type of man sits on the sidelines and thinks ‘thanks, ladies, for doing my job for me’.

Thank you for this brilliant post.

A month in stunning south of France with your husband

and here you are 😞

And indeed here you are bullying others. Please stop. This is clearly an interesting topic and has created a a lively debate that you are trying to derail.

It's a good point. The reason I reject the argument that it's a feminist statement to wear this look is: why is it always women who feel the pressure to reveal intimate parts of their bodies? I do know the answer! It's the pressures of porn culture which I'm afraid they're being influenced by. It works very well for men.

That's one aspect of this thread.

But the more immediate one, to me, is that I don't want to sit on a seat after someone with a thong. I've explained why in detail up thread, but I won't repeat those points here because Anearlyone will get over-excited!

But that is image and how people dress generally or else we'd all go about wearing scruffy clothes. So yes we all do put thought into how we present and if someone if very body confident and wants to wear a skimpy bikini in a beach eaterie it should not cause such judgement and outrage.

Live and let live. Some posters need to stop dressing up sneers as 'concern'.

Morning, everyone. Good to see this thread getting back on track. We'd like to keep it that way so let's draw a line under the derailing and references to people's posts on other threads. We prefer not to encourage folk to drag one thread over to another in general - it's just not really in the spirit of the site. Thanks!

EmeraldShamrock000 · 12/08/2026 10:26

It’s not a new thing. I’m sure my DGP’s had mini heart attacks in the 60’s when the mini skirt came on the scene.
These items are aimed at the youth and the buzz doesn’t last long, of course it is attention seeking but again there is only a short window in life when they have the body and the confidence that to explore the new fashion for younger ladies.
To add. It’s not just young women, young men nowadays have a very high standard for their body and looks, they spend more on their hair than girls.

Well, it does seem that you're saying I've been mocking. I haven't and I object to you lumping me in with anyone who is mocking.

I'm much more interested in the meaning/implications/sociological aspect of this type of trend and yes, I do see it as patriarchal pressure of a nasty type. It concerns me that young women feel these pressures which I see as playing right into the interests of sleazy men.

But - as I've said multiple times on this thread, that's all very interesting intellectual stuff, but the more pressing matter is that I think you should have a layer of textile between your (effectively) bare backside and any seat which others will have to sit on.

It's really not rocket science, is it.

It's not about mini-skirts.

How much time have you spent on beaches where thong bikinis are popular?

Men do wear them. I have never seen a child wearing one, but I have seen children running around completely naked.

So true. People will always judge others but its how we share the concern that matters isn't it.
Ours have like all older dc worn things that I wouldn't choose but you talk about it rationally without the scorn and sneers we've seen throughout this thread.

Where to start with this!

Why do you think these styles are aimed at youth? Why do you say it's a 'new fashion for younger ladies'?

If it's a valid feminist choice, why would women only have 'a short window in life to wear it'?

If you can answer these points you will help me understand what you're trying to say in your post.

gotitsoiflauntit · 12/08/2026 10:37

They don’t. I don’t fit in the “youth” category.
