to be annoyed about this situation with neighbour and her dog?

I’m lying awake because I don’t know what to do about this situation.

On Sunday our neighbour came to see us visibly upset. Her mum had been taken into hospital and she had been told to get there asap. Her mum lives in Scotland and we are in the South of England so she was panicking about getting there on time and also about who would look after her dog. We helped her book a flight as she was in a state shaking and in no state to think properly. She asked if we could have her dog for a few days. Reluctantly we agreed but said we were leaving to go on holiday on Friday evening so she would need to make other arrangements by Friday morning for him. We went and collected the dog and he has been with us since. We have our own dogs and they are all getting on well.

Our neighbour text me on Monday to say her mum had died. We had a brief text conversation and obviously I said how sorry I was to hear about her mum.

I text her on Wednesday morning to say that I know she has a lot to deal with but we really need to know what she’s doing about her dog as we are due to go away. I didn’t hear anything so I text her again yesterday to ask what she wanted us to do with the dog and got a text from another of her relatives from her phone saying our neighbour is very upset and isn’t in the right place to sort this out. I replied to say I understood but that when we agreed to have the dog, it was on the condition that she made other arrangements for the dog by Friday morning as we are due to go on holiday. I didn’t get a reply. I tried to call last night but it went to voicemail. I had already called our nearest boarding kennels who do have space so I told her on the voicemail that I could drop him at kennels but she needs to give them her payment details. I still haven’t had a reply from my neighbour.

What do we do? I’ve asked other neighbours and they won’t have him. My parents are having our dogs while we are away but are not willing to take the neighbours dog as well.

A friend has suggested I drop him at our local vets which is the vet my neighbour uses but I don’t think they would be ok with that. Another friend said if it comes to it to call the rspca, explain the situation and say he’s basically been abandoned.

I’m so stressed. I know my neighbour has lost her mum but we are not missing our holiday.

It was my comment she was laughing at. @Sunnibee said “Maybe she had a breakdown and is in a psychotic state, for example?” so I made my comment about some equally unlikely scenarios.

Then you got cross.

No one has laughed at the neighbours mum who has sadly died. And I find it horrible to insinuate that anyone has. If you read all the comments carefully you’ll see that not one person has done so.

Yeah right

Yeah right

I’m not sure I understand - are you saying you don’t believe me? Are you saying people have been laughing at the neighbours mum? Are you saying that I was not replying to that poster? Can you tag me in whichever bit you don’t believe, or screenshot it, or if you just say ‘the post by Amy at 7.53 this evening (eg) then I can find it and check 🙂.

If you have found any example of someone laughing then that’s terrible and I can report it on your behalf, or you can report it.

You have no idea whether she's on here or not.

Oh give over! Well if she is maybe she’ll get her dog? Or maybe she’s not really that bothered, no one knows do they?

Pinkchickenwine · 11/08/2026 21:24

Enoughofpeopleenough · 11/08/2026 19:51

No you were just supporting them taking the piss.

It was a massive reach wasn’t it? A bit like the OPs neighbour gave a psychotic episode!

Yeah I thought their analogy was amusing!

I have no guilt at that,

it’s like looking for a way to be offended!

You're trying to justify yourself a lot for someone who isn't feeling guilty. Think we'll have to agree to disagree here. Enjoy your evening.

I don’t need to justify myself to someone on MN, just why would I?

I mean I could be your NDN, or live at the other end of the country, you’ll never know and it makes no sense for me to justify myself!

Sasha07 · 11/08/2026 21:37

@Enoughofpeopleenough
No wonder you've had enough of people when you have such a twisted perspective. Not a single person, that I've seen, has made a joke laughing at the neighbours mum dying.

There's way too many people who don't understand or recognise basic things, that feel the need to try to make a point out of something that didn't even happen... You haven't picked up the tone or context of what @Pinkchickenwine found funny... That's on you, Pink has nothing to explain as everyone else knows what they found funny, which isn't someone's dead mum...

Sorry, genuinely, if this reads harsh. I don't mean it to sound bitchy but... It's frustrating seeing comments aimed at someone over something that's purposefully/absurdly been taken out of context.

Now if we can move on past the craziness on this thread, there's not much left to discuss at present time, seeing as it's all been resolved as far as it can be, for now.

Friendlygingercat · 07/08/2026 16:38

Take it into the country and let it go in a field. Tell the neighbour it ran away. Someone will look after it or it will eventually find its way back while you are away.

What a horrible thing to suggest!
Please dont EVER get yourself a dog or any pet for that matter.

Yeah hilarious that someone's mum died

Should we be in perpetual mourning for all the strangers who die every day?

There's a huge difference between perpetual mourning and a bit of respect isn't there.

oh for goodness sake, if you get wound up this much about an anonymous posters, neighbours, mother, someone you’ve no idea who they are, the relationship they had, the circumstances of their death etc, how do you cope with life?

You’re just trying to look like “the better person”, I’ve so much sympathy for a situation I know sod all about.

I already said this yesterday - If you have found any example of someone laughing then that’s terrible and I can report it on your behalf, or you can report it but you haven’t actually pointed out any examples which makes me think you are aware there aren’t any examples and you’re just offended by things that didn’t happen.

Other things that didn’t happen - in 1972 my gran said ‘watch out for that @Enoughofpeopleenough because she makes a really rubbish cup of tea and puts salt in it.

Feel free to be upset at my gran too 🤷‍♀️.

Exactly. Other than it’s sad that someone’s lost their mum, no one here really gives a fuck about a random CF’s mum dying.

I haven't replied because if you can't see that people were taking the piss then there's no point explaining it.

Not at all wound up and I have no reason to try to look like the 'better person' to a bunch of Internet strangers. Just don't appreciate people taking the piss when the neighbour is probably going through the toughest point of their life. She 100% did wrong by the OP and her dog but that's where it should end. There were even people saying they thought she was lying about the death.

Anyway, that's it really. I don't have to justify why I felt it was unpleasant to take the piss. The OP got sorted and I hope the neighbour is ok and eventually apologises about the dog situation.

I don’t have a page 37, I have changed settings so all posts are on one page. What happens on your page 37?

Again, no one was ‘taking the piss’ and as you have not been able to point to any specific comment or poster, that’s that.

And I don’t need to justify myself as to why it wasn’t!

what happened in the end op has she come back

Sasha07 · 13/08/2026 16:16

@whynotwhatknot OP only went on holiday Friday evening so if she returns to the thread, assuming she's gone for a week or two, it'll be this weekend or next that we hopefully get an update 🤞
Hoping the thread won't be full by then so she'll have space to update and we'll all know where to find it 😅 I think there's a good few of us who are abit overly invested in this thread 😁
