Is Mumsnet better than CHAT GPT for advice?
AIBU- Mumsnet is full of genuine advice
AINBU- CHAT GPT is great and/or is on Mumsnet anyway

But to me this is a perfect example of the low quality of Mumsnet discourse.

“Oh but look I’ve linked a news story that says chat gpt made up a legal case!” “Ok how does that impact me using it?” “Well x” “no it doesn’t” “well Y” “no it doesn’t” “ok well I don’t like it anyway for other reasons”

erm ok… so why were we talking about making up some case law?

I can honestly say I have never wanted to be told to go to A&E so I guess these things depend on what you ask it. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I’m not sure why you are so hooked up on this. I gave one example. You suggested that wasn’t a good enough reason not to trust/use it. I’ve told you all my other reasons and you are still banging on about how case law can be checked. It’s not reliable if you have to check every little thing.
For the last time. I don’t trust it because it hallucinates, but I don’t use it because

• Immoral thievery of people’s work
• Undermining and undervaluing of actual experts
• Environmental effects

I’m so “hooked up” on it because you responded to my post saying I would use it for legal advice over Mumsnet with

“You would trust it for legal advice? Really?”
and a link to made up case law being quoted in court. When I asked why that means I shouldn’t use it for legal advice there you have no reason.

So I dont understand why you posted it in the first place, apart from maybe you gave it barely any thought before posting, which at least you can’t accuse chat got of.

Does anyone else think there are a few posters on MN who always give brilliant, sensible, well-articulated, civil advice? I do. I would list their names, except I don't want to embarass them and come off as a creepy stalker. ( They don't seem to change their names).

Well MN depends on the posts. Some helpful, some not. Chat GPT is a waste of time.

Real life advice, from people that know you, is best.

In previous post about alleged chat gpt hallucinations a poster claimed she’d been told by chat gpt to go to a&e for her period.

When that was questioned and tested, it had said nothing of the sort.
It had simply said “if you symptoms turn into (bullet points describing a serious emergency) contact your nearest a&e

yet the poster was happy to go around giggling that she’d told chat she had her period and it demanded she rush to a&e.

There are definitely some whose opinion I value - and equally there are some whose contributions I deliberately skip because I so seldom agree with anything they say that it’s bad for my blood pressure 😄

I think one advantage of chat gpt is that YOU are more likely to give it more info and be more open and truthful cos you’re not worried about being judged… whereas on mumsnet you might be more guarded because it’s a nest of (occasionally very kind and helpful) vipers!

Many on MN just want to have a go at the OP in a very unhelpful way. People don’t read the OP’s posts properly etc. No way is that useful advice.

I gave it the thought it needed. A bit of an aside that it may not be the best idea to use something that’s getting more and more separated from reality (as in my following post, which you don’t seem quite so fascinated by) for something important like legal advice.
I didn’t say that was why I don’t use it. I’ve told you why I don’t use it, but you seem obsessed with it being brilliant despite it being inaccurate, immoral, environmentally damaging and all the rest. You do you, but I’ll give it a miss. One post does not a poster’s whole experience and opinion make.

I bet ChatGPT wouldn't tell you you did low quality discourse anyway. That's something to be said for it.

I’d never post on MN for advice, posters on here are nasty for the sake of it.

Mumsnet gives you a lot of different opinions mostly by real women. Ai gives you bland opinions which it couches as authoritative but is just based on random sources scalped from the internet.

Depends on what advice you are looking for. Practical with videos to demonstrate it e.g. DIY then AI is great and narrowing down and filtering what you need.

Opinions and suggestions that are more nuanced then less so. Although it is useful to help you find discussions similar or close to what you want advice on so could save some time in that respect.

I find the Style and Beauty Mumsnet advice horrific. I’ve never seen more unflattering and frumpy outfits recommend. Along with “statement necklaces” 🤢

But real people do tend to give better advice on real life situations they’ve lived through before.
