Well no because the real people on Mumsnet express all kinds of opinions and attitudes. AI is waffle tending towards repeating whatever the poster has said or is looking for. Do you mind me asking if you are AI or real? I can't imagine that a real mumsnet user would think it generally offers 'tough love' , there is such variety of responses from pointless bullying through joking to good sense and kindness.

people cite this so often and I actually think it’s hilarious. Lawyers and barristers can make up or misrepresent Case law. It’s up to the judge to know, or check if they don’t. How is that chat gpts fault?! Arguing different points of law is the point of the court.

chat GPT isn’t a human. We are. That’s the biggest reason for me, I’d rather ask people than a robot.

But you’ve extrapolated that because lawyers or barristers have gone in front of a judge with invented cases (without checking) a lay person can’t use it for legal advice?

I'm in a group full of people going through a legal process. So many people represent themslevs with chat gpt. What risk do you think the fact that a barrister used a made up case in court presents to their case?

Problem with MN is that if you post on any of the ‘big’ boards - AIBU, Parenting, Relationships et al - there is always a ‘bait the OP’ tendency. It isn’t all posters but it’s enough people that the thread can take on a hectoring sort of tone and become unnecessarily adversarial in its nature. So instead of ‘three year olds are often driven to control their environment’ you get a lot of ‘he’s THREE’ replies. Or, you get ‘parent him’ or something equally helpful.

I would always rather ask real people than an LLM. If I think MN is going to be too harsh about anything, then I’d go to other forums over something like ChatGPT.

The latest version of ChatGPT at least tries to find nuance in most situations and gently pushes back against extremes. MN just stokes the fire sometimes, confidently taking a single incident as evidence of an entire relationship.

Look at what often happens here when someone's dh has said something a little clumsy that hurt their feelings. Cue the 'he's negging you, he's vile, he doesn't even like you, much less love you,' brigade. Then if the OP doesn't agree, it's, 'Where is your self respect? OMG, the bar is in hell. I couldn't stay with a man like that.'

Well yes MN is from people and GPT is just an aggregate of Reddit posts squished together by a word prediction programme.

I think AIBU is often a bear pit, but had great advice over the years on other boards.

Some people just want an outlet to say the (awful) stuff they think about people they encounter in their daily lives out loud.

MN in general, but the relationship advice is very biased, lots of LTB and the belief that people will be happy single or will easily pick someone else up. Also, sometimes there's a misunderstanding and the whole thread goes the wrong way because of that.

On the other hand, Chat GPT is based only on what you tell it, not real-life experience.

Not everything is made up is it? We’re talking about a judgement, used to prove the precedent of a point of law, by a barrister, in front of a judge, in a court room, being made up.

what evidence do you have that chat GPt can’t provide people with solid legal advice, with the responsibility being on that person to check it’s accuracy themselves?

It won’t include Mumsnet, Mumsnet is too tiny. I’ve only ever seen Reddit cited as information. And that’s not people’s thoughts, it’s where similar questions have been asked and answered
