Aibu to think that this show at the Edinburgh Festival should be cancelled? It mocks the circumstances around the murder of Meredith Kercher and serves it up as entertainment.

Not only is it horribly disrespectful of Meredith's family, but it also belittles the issue of violence against girls and women.

Meredith's siblings are calling for it to be pulled from the festival. There is also a petition calling for it to be stopped.

Some tried, in this instance, but failed.

I do think the Kerchers were wrong to start the campaign, but I afford them (and people who personally knew Meredith) huge leeway. It's similar to how I'm opposed to capital punishment, but can be entirely sympathetic to directly impacted people feeling otherwise.

Emotions are powerful and actions based on them understandable but, fundamentally, I think foundational principles (like the promotion of justice and freedom of speech) are paramount.

For not staying silent when others wanted her to. For continuing her life. Also, the show is fully sold out for a reason. People want to hear her story and good on her. X

I did laugh at the "it's not funny" as an intended defence.

Same. I had no opinion on her as a human being before learning of the show, but have a tonne of respect for what she's doing.

I wonder whether her separate criminal conviction, upheld by Italy’s highest court in 2025, featured in the show 🤔 After all, it arose directly from the same case.

I did feel sorry for Raff as well but I was also annoyed that he let himself get played and told the police what they wanted to hear - that he couldn't be 100% certain Amanda had never left his flat that night.
The computer showed a movie had been watched at the time Meredith was murdered and early the next morning a music playlist (including Nirvana, popular in Seattle) was playing. On top of that an external witness spoke to Amanda at 8.40. I believe Amanda did stay over and the whole "see you later" text and whole other Satanic bs the prosecutor was interested in, led them down a dodgy path of quick arrests rather than awaiting DNA evidence.

The mop used to clean Raff's leak and returned to the cottage showed no blood on it. He spoke with his sister who worked for the police. I absolutely would have relied on him too to speak with them, if my Italian was basic. Would things have been different had they just gone on their daytrip rather than go back to her flat together then ending up raising the alarm? Undoubtedly.

Under interrogation, Raff threw her under the bus and when his lawyers later said to distance from her, drove over her. Allegedly he has said he would not consider doing a show about his experiences and would move on (he did write a book though as his costs were also £££ and he received no compensation) again throwing her under the bus (especially as he has himself been accused of making comments in bad taste about the murder itself).

Knox does not do that in this show and yes, had I been up in Scotland this year, I may well have gone to see it as I like monologues and am interested in stories about others' experience of motherhood (hence why I am on MN).
