Aibu to think that this show at the Edinburgh Festival should be cancelled? It mocks the circumstances around the murder of Meredith Kercher and serves it up as entertainment.

Not only is it horribly disrespectful of Meredith's family, but it also belittles the issue of violence against girls and women.

Meredith's siblings are calling for it to be pulled from the festival. There is also a petition calling for it to be stopped.

Facts are facts and you can't just ignore all the evidence including the appeal court verdict and just say (with no backing evidence) that she is guilty.
That's why @randomchap is so frustrated and I understand that. Anyone has the right to question someone who is saying things that are demonstratively untrue . It's not just people having a difference if opinion.

No one is stopping you from having an opinion, or from voicing it. When you post your opinion on a message board, however, you are inviting comment. That’s the whole point of message boards.

Utilizing comedy as a way of dealing with trauma is hardly something so fantastical that you’d even need to make it up. It’s very common, actually, and can be a healthy coping mechanism.

So, to be accurate Amanda Knox was acquitted of murder, but she is still a convicted criminal. Her separate conviction for falsely accusing an innocent man of murder and the accompanying three year sentence was upheld by Italy’s highest court in 2025. A convicted criminal then decides it would be a great opportunity to turn her experience into comedy. Poor Amanda.

She didn't commit the murder, but she did introduce Meredith Kercher to a world she was ill-equipped to handle. Having had her conviction quashed and been released, she could have done anything - gone to university, started a new career. Instead, she chose to monetise Meredith's murder. She is worthy of neither sympathy nor respect.

Someone with PTSD, a criminal conviction and a significant minority of the planet still believing her to be a murderer could've done anything? None of those things place any limitations on her options? Mmmkay. Good luck proving that one.

Which would further my point if so. The larger the number of people who believe someone to be a murderer who's got off, the more doors are going to be closed to them.

Ah yes that'll be it then. Of course it was Amanda Knox's fault that her housemate of weeks was murdered by a complete stranger. Probably because she was unlikeable or something.

Well indeed. Watching someone for an evening is much less of a commitment than employing them, working alongside them or utilising their professional services.

And this isn't solely limited to the people who still believe she's guilty either. I don't think there's the remotest chance she killed Meredith. But I would nonetheless not want to work with her because of the level of attention, and potential for random loons to cause trouble. Not her fault of course, but equally not my problem.

That is speculation. Amanda Knox remains a convicted criminal with a three year sentence.

No idea, the poster who confidently asserted that she could've done anything is the one who you want to address that sort of question to. They must know a great deal of very specific things about her to make such a concrete claim. If the unthinkable happens and she can't back it up, I think a good way to look at this is has she had more jobs than she's sold tickets? My guess is no.

I wonder how many of the posters on this thread criticising Knox for making money doing this instead of some other conveniently unspecified thing would be fine with working alongside her?
