Dishwasher dilemna

For those with dishwashers.
Do you load the dishwasher throughout the day or do you wait until you have a lot to put in all at once?
We have recently bought one and dh is saying that constantly opening the door will cause too much wear and tear.
I hate seeing the dirty dishes on the side and think that it defeats the object of having a dishwasher.
Surely I'm not being unreasonable?

Load as and when, it doesn’t hurt the door

OH wont allow it to be loaded as we go, nothing to do with the door. He stacks it his way

I cant stand the thing personally and would rather do without it.

If he's so concerned he can leave the door slightly open. Just moving it on the hinge won't do any damage.

Load when the dishes are dirty throughout the day then once full put it on

Load as we go here, too. Half the point of a dishwasher is to hide the dirty dishes as far as I'm concerned.

Load as we go. If it caused wear and tear on the door then this would be well known and brands that could not withstand this usage would find their dishwashers very unpopular.

Oh dear! Oh dear! Load it as you go! I can’t stand seeing dirty dishes. We call ours the magic cupboard. You could leave it a bit ajar if he is bothered about the catch but we have had dishwashers for 4o years and have never worn a door out!

Load as we go, except I do it badly and DH unloads and reloads before putting it on 🤣

What's going to wear out, the hinges? Unless someone is slamming the door shut hard enough to break dishware, opening and closing is not going to wear it out.

He's wrong. Is he one of those dudes that just leaves dirty dishes wherever and he's trying to get out of putting his dishes in the DW when he's done eating?

Absolutely load as you go!!!! Otherwise what's the point? We've had our current dishwasher over 5 years and it's still going strong - our previous dishwasher was passed on to us - so secondhand, and we probably had it for around 10 years. The door was absolutely fine! I'm fact we only got rid of it because we were having our kitchen done and wanted an integrated dishwasher.

He’s being ridiculous. The dishwasher won’t be damaged by opening the door.

I must admit my wife did express the view that I should always load the dishwasher because she would do it "wrong" and I'd end up rearranging it, but the reality is that even if I load it myself I end up rearranging things to get the last few items in before running it. Once everyone understands that's just part of the process it goes much better.

Wear and tear!. I think I read somewhere that out of all the appliances dishwashers are most reliable. You could just leave it open?

We did have one dishwasher where the door switch/interlock failed, but it was an easy fix and it's only happened once in 20+ years of dishwashing.

Load as you go!! If I have a cup of tea mug goes straight in at the end whatever time of day. Same with any plates or cups used all day long. Keeps kitchen clear and tidy

I usually only use mine at weekends and just load it as and when I’m cooking / dirty plates. I think they’re designed for opening regularly tbh so don’t think it will come off its hinges. Deviating away from the question tho Where do you all put your pots and pans top or bottom?

load as you go of course. I hate when people pile dishes up next to dishwasher - as Michael Mcintyre said, they get clean IN the diswasher, not AROUND the dishwasher, might as well throw them in the garden!

Exactly my way of thinking! Just use it as a cupboard to hide it all away and keep the sides clear! This is driving me nuts!!

😂Pans in the bottom half here as they wouldn't fit in the top. Ours have has a top cutlery shelf too instead of the stand up ones iyswim.

Absolutely load as we go. Desperately needed we don’t have much space to leave dirty dishes. No it absolutely doesn’t cause excessive wear and tear. Your husband is hilarious, are you only allowed to open the front door once in the morning and once at night as well?

I have always loaded as you go. Our 1st dishwasher lasted at least 19 years as we then moved house leaving it behind.

Your DH is insane

Dish washers exist to put all our dirty dishes away immediately to prevent them from cluttering up kitchen counters and sinks.

Tell him some people have 2 dishwashers for this very reason

No sane person wants to leave dirty dishes festering on kitchen surfaces when there is a dishwasher to put them in.

As for wear and tear being his excuse well that’s just nonsense as it’s just a door on a hinge
