Dishwasher dilemna

For those with dishwashers.
Do you load the dishwasher throughout the day or do you wait until you have a lot to put in all at once?
We have recently bought one and dh is saying that constantly opening the door will cause too much wear and tear.
I hate seeing the dirty dishes on the side and think that it defeats the object of having a dishwasher.
Surely I'm not being unreasonable?

Load as you go! That’s half the point of them so you don’t have dirty dishes lying around! Imagine the bloody flies in the height of summer 🤢
DH sells kitchens and he says they’re made to be opened frequently! Ours is several years old and the hinges are fine!

I have had mine for 28 years and it survived a house move. Always put stuff into it. That is why I call it my magic cupboard.

I've got a fridge freezer like that which makes sense but a dishwasher- I'd that because it could be a trip hazard? No one will be able to think for themselves soon. Mind you, we'll probably all have robots to do everything soon. Wonder if they'll load as they go.....😂

Unless you have someone loading a dishwasher like a racoon on crack, the dishwasher is designed to be opened as you go.

The whole point is to keep a clean and tidy kitchen at all time.

Some MN posters even have TWO dishwashers. Genius.

Leaving a pile of dirty anything anywhere in the house is not acceptable!

Mine is 10 years old and we stack all day long, the door is fine. Your husband is nuts.

Does he restrict access to the fridge for the same reason?!

The idea it causes too much wear and tear is insane.
Are you allowed to open and close the front door or does that cause wear and tear as well?

I leave it on the magic corner of the counter as any items placed their magically vanish and end up clean and in the cupboard.

There are plenty of things that could go wrong with your dishwasher -wear and tear to the door is not one of them!

Whole point is that it contains the dirty dishes out of sight and stops attracting bugs

At least half the value of a dishwasher is that it’s a hideaway cupboard for dirty dishes - load as you go!

Its to save electricity. Handy for breaking in, wouldn't want to blind anyone with the brightness🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️
I turn them on before I go to bed. Probably use more electricity turning them on and off!😂🤣😅🤣😂

It's a door. That is its literal job. To open and close.

How does your DH get in and out of the house, if he’s so averse to doors being opened and shut? Does he use the chimney?

He surely can’t actually think wear and tear on the door is a thing, or that festering dirty dishes left on the side are acceptable. Are you quite sure he isn’t having you on to get out of stacking it and so that you do it instead?

Never even thought about that sort of wear and tear. Does he only let you open the front door once a day too?

To be fair, we were told security lights are most effective as a torch to help burglars break in and not trip over. Especially if they're regularly set off by cats/foxes etc.

I’m sure there is a Michael Mcyntire sketch on this. Who leaves stuff on top of where it should be? Does he do the same with laundry? On top of the basket.
