Dishwasher dilemna

For those with dishwashers.
Do you load the dishwasher throughout the day or do you wait until you have a lot to put in all at once?
We have recently bought one and dh is saying that constantly opening the door will cause too much wear and tear.
I hate seeing the dirty dishes on the side and think that it defeats the object of having a dishwasher.
Surely I'm not being unreasonable?

You are totally correct and your DH is wrong. I do usually leave the door unlatched but I don't worry about moving it on its hinge at all. I probably don't even need to leave it unlatched but I find it less annoying that way.

We've just replaced our integrated dishwasher after about 16 years' service.
We load as and when, although we tend not to click the door shut, so it's slightly ajar.

Leave it open (unless it's likely to be trip hazard if you've got someone in the house who can't be trusted not to fall over it). Then load as you go, without him worrying about the door.

Fill through out the day. Switch on after tea. No point having pots sitting on the side when you’ve got a dishwasher.

It's basically just me now though family members often pop in for a quick informal lunch.
I tend to put dirty dishes in the bowl in the sink (there are not that many of them!) and then load them into the dishwasher in the evening before washing up the non-dw items. DW then goes on as and when needed - probs every other day.
Life is too short to load lots!

There were two reasons as to why we got a dishwasher: to save time and to make the kitchen look tidier during the day as it's packed as we go! I absolutely hate seeing the kitchen & sink stacked with dirty washing up stuff plus DP isn't great at making sure things are clean properly so his washing up was always a bit shite tbh!
DP still leaves dirty crockery etc over the side but that's because he's a lazy sod and 'forgets' to pop it in.
Seriously though, I baulked at getting one for years and only wish that I'd done so sooner. You can reassure your DP that the door is perfectly safe as after 5 years ours gets opened & closed between 10-20 times a day and it's still going strong having not fallen off once!

Oh and don't close the door while the dishwasher isn't being used. Always leave it ajar so that it can air properly otherwise it starts to smell. Everyone here knows to leave the door open about 1cm.

Another load as you go vote. I hate seeing dirty crockery dumped on the worktop when it could be neatly stacked away where it belongs. My H tends to leave it and do it all in one go but he wouldn't/couldnt stop me doing it my way.

Hurt the door? You load it when you need to then you put it on when it's full. I put mine on at night.
Opening the door won't cause any problems.

Ps can’t comment on the door as ours is slightly broken, as is actually both of our lin laws - but don’t tell your dh that!!!😂

Ours sings to us if we leave the door open. Annoyingly.

I’ve had dishwashers for years,I always load as I go. I’ve had dishwashers malfunction but I’ve never had one that had an issue with the door because it had been too frequently opened and closed. Never.

What does he think it’s made of, cardboard? 🤣. Put it in as you go, then when it’s full put it on. Job done!

oh, and that cutlery shelf thing is amazing! I love ours. But I have to separate it all out, tea spoons, forks, knives and big spoons all start in each edge and work their way in. I know when my DH has put stuff in as it’s all jumbled up! 🙄

Good question. Maybe because he used to do most of the washing up before we got. Actually, that's a very good question as it's reminded me that I paid for it! I got it because I was sick of him moaning about the washing up and also ironically, to keep the sides clear!
