AIBU to worry about taking enough sunscreen in cabin luggage?

I've never been overseas before.
Going to Greece in 2 days with 2 little DC.
Easyjet.
We are taking cabin luggage only.
100mls restriction for any lotions.
I am really worried about sunscreen for DC.
What do people do?? I00mls sunscreen wont last 2 weeks for both DC, as I'm planning on smothering them in it every couple of hours and every time they get out of sea.
I've been told it's twice the price or poor quality to buy in Crete.
Can i buy it at Gatwick or will they ban me from taking it on the plane?

@MissingPiecess buy here after security or buy in Greece. They also have Lidl in Greece so you can buy the Which? tested own brand (cien) stuff there, or any of the well-known brands in the many pharmacies you’ll see.

What about clothes for yourself for day and evening? Shoes?! Makeup?

Im not one that dresses up too much for evenings but I definitely wear something different than I do during the day and my kids want different shoes for the day and evening.

Im just trying to get my head around hand luggage only for a 2 week holiday!!

Your problem is going to be where you're going to PUT the two litres of sunscreen you're purchasing after security if you've already packed your carry on full of two weeks worth of clothes. If you've never flown before and never been abroad before, you may be underestimating how stringent Easyjet is with carry on. If it's not too late, I'd pay to have one checked piece of luggage. Then you can pack whatever you think you're going to need, including all the suncream you want.

I would buy them a couple of UV resistant tops or outfits - i saw lots of kids wearing them at the beach last week.
Sunscreen is full of chemicals, so those outfits give their little bodies a rest from all that.

Gatwick no longer have the 100ml rule and they are the ones who do the checks, EasyJet won’t go through your bag.
Just seen you’re never flown before this is how it works. You’ll go through security in departures, put your cabin bag and handbag in a plastic tray that goes through a scanner on a conveyor belt and you collect it the other side. It used to be the case that you unpacked your bag into the tray and put all of your 100ml bottles in a separate sandwich bag, you don’t do this anymore you don’t even open your bag because the liquid rule is no longer in place. Once you’re through security that’s it nobody else looks inside your bags. The only checks easyJet might do is to check your bag size.

This is pretty much exactly what we do and it's so much easier, especially now that you don't have to put all your toiletries in a plastic bag to go through security.

Most European pharmacies are better stocked than UK ones tbh! Also places like Druni in Spain sell very well-priced toiletries, often cheaper than at home.

I don't think people realise how much you can fit in the 10kg cabin bags, and the small under the seat ones come to that. And children's clothes are SMALL, as are a lot of women's clothes! Some people really struggle accepting that others do things differently from them.

And I have flown many many times with EasyJet and Ryanair and pretty much always acquire a carrier bag from one of the shops after security and have never been questioned about taking it on, as @SylvanMoon implies might be the case. Earlier this year I flew from Stanstead and there were signs up saying everyone could take one carrier bag on in addition to their other cabin bags - these were not airline specific. If you couldn't take any extra bags on planes from these shops what would be the point in them being there?

Op there are several lidls in Crete all of which will stock cheap sunscreen. I presume you don’t want to post where you are going but Google maps or Apple Maps will show you where they are and if there is one in resort.

Because people are batshit. They think they are saving money by not.paying for a hold bag. But then end up buying all their toiletries and beach towels in the other country, even extra clothes sometimes...which they then leave there when they come home. So ends up costing the same/more and is such a waste with all that stuff going to landfill. Make it make sense!

100%, @unistress. I guess it's like a lot of things - if you've never successfully done it then maybe you just assume it can't be done!

I’m in Crete now. I saw the same brand sun cream we are using. It’s slightly more expensive but not exceedingly. I know you don’t want people derailing but two weeks worth of suncream and toiletries will offset the cost of a suitcase and make your airport experience easier. But you do you

What the actual fuck are you talking about? Do you think cabin luggage means OP is walking on the plane with a little handbag for her family holiday? You get 10kg suitcase/rucksack per person together with a 45x36 underseat bag each. Its more than enough for an average holiday. We've just been in Europe for 12 days. We all had beach towels, make up, toiletries, more than enough clothes - there were 4 dresses I brought home that I didn't even get to wear. Nothing was bought that we could have packed in cabin luggage though we did shop there and bring things home we liked. Noone was washing knickers in the sink.

The sun in Crete will be intense. I would get your kids full length UV swim suits. And a bucket of factor 50.M and s swimming onesie
My little one was a baby and toddler when we lived in Sydney. The swim outfits are brilliant and much easier than reapplying cream.

If its more expensive then so be it. If your budget is tight then you need to make a saving elsewhere. Good quality sunscreen is non negotiable on a sunny European holiday. It will be for sale everywhere if you going to a holiday village or complex there will be some in the on site shop or next door and yes it might cost a few euro more but worth it to not drag small kids around. Every supermarket sells them and many touristy shops. If you are going somewhere more remote get it at the airport. I'd bring enough for 24 hours only.

OP be aware that although you dont need toiletries seperated into a plastic bag for uk airports you still do at most European ones so remember to take some with you

I'm referring to the people who take the small free cabin bag. Which is any bag within the dimensions (eg rucksack) that fits under the seat infront.
That is "what the fuck actual fuck I am on about". Is that clear enough for your potty mouth?
Any larger cabin bag is chargeable, hence some people go for the free option to save money but buy everything they need out there and leave half of it behind.
On my most recent holiday I witnessed a family leave behind flipflops and beach towels in a pile on their balcony. Utter waste

It was actually cheaper to book hold luggage the last couple of flights ive booked. Its not about the cost, its the freedom of walking straight off the plane with my case. No waiting at baggage reclaim and the annoying scrum to get your cases off. No risk of the airline losing your luggage (this has happened to me twice and is a pita). Much quicker through the airport, im through and in a taxi or on a bus while everyone else is standing around waiting for their case. Just a much simpler and stress free airport experience.
