To just want it to be autumn now?

I hate the depths of winter (January and February) with a passion, but my god I am craving those lovely September days where it’s not so hot you feel sweaty by 8am, and you're able to walk around without feeling disgusting.

I want soups and stews and pies back on the menu instead of pasta and salads, I want a piping hot bowl of leek and potato soup with a crusty bit of bread, a steak and ale pie with a helping of buttery mash, a roast dinner.

I’m sick of wearing dresses and sandals, I have a Birkenstock tan line ffs. I want to get into bed and feel cosy, not just have a sheet over the top of me. I’m craving a cosy autumn afternoon, a nice walk through orange woods and coming back to a lovely bowl of stew with a helping of crusty bread, tucked under a blanket reading a book.

Im doing nothing of the kind. I’ve said the two heatwaves were unpleasant. I’ve said we need rain. I’ve done it all without insulting anyone, whereas you have said I ‘get a bit sad’, need to ‘learn to deal with it’ (how old do you think I am and how many years do you think I’ve been dealing with it?) and say I’m ’being insufferable’ because I’ve pointed out you can do all the things you like to do in summer while winter makes me ill. It’s a personal attack. I’m not reporting it because it might get deleted and people need to see how unpleasant you are being.

I don’t think there’s been a week since May where at least one person hasn’t gone home sick with what appears to be heat related illnesses.

It was a maximum of 17 degrees for the first two weeks in June according to Met Office records.

I'm so annoyed about this. I started running in May last year and managed 3 times a week all summer. This summer I've had to do at least 2 out of 3 per week on a treadmill in an air-conditioned gym and it's just shit in comparison.

I suspect most summer hating mumsnetters live in the southern half of the UK and I think they forget that the weather isn't the same everywhere.

While we have had some hot weather in Yorkshire it hasn't been unremitting like it has been in the south east. What we really need is rain. Woodhead Pass has only just reopened after being closed for ages due to the wild fire at Tintwhistle and all the fields are parched

Our nights are much fresher and it is too cold to sleep without bed covers.

I love summer weather. Last time I looked Cambridgeshire wasn’t in the north.

Well exactly. I was repeating a silly comment to demonstrate how silly it was.

I have eaten stew at a lot warmer temperatures and it did make me feel good. I didn’t need to pretend.

I love stew in this weather. Mainly because my kitchen is the hottest room in the house in the evenings, so no one wants to cook. So bunging stuff in the slow cooker and leaving it to do it's thing is perfect.

The OP isn’t interested in anyone bursting her fantasy. Can we please all agree it’s been 26 degrees plus for two whole months?? It’s uppity and insufferable to suggest otherwise.

Where in the UK are you? The heatwave is over. The weather is lovely where I am. Have my window closed at night again and I have my duvet with its cosy cover on again.

Now the excessive heat has gone I feel like we are finally getting a summer we can enjoy.

It’s already getting dark before 9pm now. How anyone looks forward to the endless long, grey, damp months is beyond me. Autumn and winter are depressing. Make the most of the warmth and sunlight while you can.

I get what you mean .. but at the same time I’m loving the nice warm weather, washing dry outside within an hour, windows and doors open , fresh air , lots of time outdoors , cheaper entertainment for grandchildren - park, river and wood trails, no muddy car ( just dust instead lol )

Have got used to it and coping better , not coping above 27 but otherwise I’m loving it and would like it to continue
On the other hand , well aware of the risk of drought , fires and the effect on farming , wildlife and global warming etc so it’s not all good .

Temperatures are dropping significantly on Wednesday for most of the UK

Hopefully we will get some rain.

I pay no attention to weather apps more than 5 or 6 days out (learned the hard way with a holiday a few years back), but they’re usually fairly accurate for the next couple of days. Of course things can always change and it might be 30 degrees this weekend so I can go to my rave without a jacket (yes please 🙏), but across multiple apps it’s showing the UK cooling significantly this week.
