Jabs to lose 1.5 stone?

torquayturkey · 02/08/2026 12:45

I’m 5’7 and feel my best when I’m between 10.5-11st. A couple of years ago I had a really bad time with my mental health (ended up sectioned) and lost 3 stone, making me 9st and I looked too thin. I’m much better now and I’ve gained 3st - I’m now 12st 4 and feel disgusting.

is it worth trying a GLP-1 to lost the 1-2 stone? I’m mainly worried about the side effects eg vomiting and stomach pains. What is everyone’s experience? Thank you.

OP hasn't ask for alternatives to losing weight. She is specifically asking about the jabs and anyone's experience.

Indeed. I’m sure she’s never thought about “adjusting her diet”. Groundbreaking stuff.

Poor you, that’s quite unusual I’d say, but some people don’t react well with the drugs, you must be one.💐

It really seems to be to be fair.
These threads about these drugs is consistently full of people saying that they had zero side effects & that stones dropped off them with no effort at all. I am super envious of these folk.

I am surviving on 700-900 cals a day & tracking every single morsel, carefully tracking nutrition, fibre, protein, fats etc. 3 litres of water, zero alcohol, zero UP foods.
feeling nauseated constantly for 3 days after each jag, heavy headache, feeling very unwell.

This can be intolerable as I am never ever unwell. I take it on a Friday evening so i feel like death over the weekend and not on work days. I dread every jag day, knowing what’s to come.

In 11 months I’ve lost 2.5 stone but I’ve lost zero in the last 9 weeks… even continuing to do the work. It’s shit.

You won’t qualify as your BMI is too low.
You can lose that in about 10 weeks on a very low carb diet. Chuck in some intermittent fasting or ADF. Jobs a good’un and you get to save about £2000

Of course she will qualify, she is overweight? Her BMI is 27.

Save £2000? That is 10 months worth of jabs, not 10 weeks. It would take 2 jabs (with golden dose) to cover 10 weeks so is only £400.

If you feel disgusting at 12st 4 I think you need to get help with your body self esteem. It’s not that loosing weight (which you can do by eating healthily and exercise) isn’t bad idea, it is, but disgusting is a very strong word for what is only just overweight. Jabs are useful in come circumstances to help with willpower but all they do is reduce hunger, you can loose through self discipline too which you have in the past

I can relate to her. I feel gross at 11st 3lb and struggle to think I was once 14st 2lb!

I am sick 2-3 days a week too, just nausea fortunately not actual vomiting, but it’s not nice. I have 850-1000 calories but my one vice is Coca Cola, I have 2 cans a day so this is 258 of the calories gone.

I’m down 3 stone in just under 3 months. Still obese but getting there. Good job on your loss too 🥳

This is quite worrying. With kindness why would you continue to take something that makes you feel like shit when a healthy diet and exercise would make you feel good.

Your BMI is 26. You're not eligible. Also your mental health history means any reputable provider will refuse.

Her bmi is 26.9 (rounds to 27 not 26) and she is eligible.

Proteinpudding · 02/08/2026 16:15

I would recommend that you look into the potential mental health impact and consider whether that's relevant to you - the drugs dampen down the dopamine hit you get from food, and often other addictive behaviour, people have reported losing interest in alcohol, gambling, shopping etc. But they can for some people cause a significant flattening effect so if your mental health deterioration was related to depression I'd be cautious, and get medical advice about them.

I personally have been taking wegovy from an 'overweight' (ie not obese) BMI. I was already doing the things that some posters on here have lectured about - strength training, getting my steps in, trying to eat healthily, prepping my meals. The simple reality was my appetite kept outrunning what I was trying to do. I need to average below 1400 calories to lose, even gradually, and wegovy has allowed me to stick consistently to that. I've lost just under a stone in nearly four months and feel a lot better for it.

LuckyHazelFox · 02/08/2026 16:17

I've just had my digital scales turn up. Thank heavens I have ordered wegovy because I'm 10 lbs heavier than I thought. So fucked off with this bloated stomach. I need to put my new starting weight on the app.

There are a couple of prescribers who will now prescribe at 26. Lots of judgement on this thread. OP - I’m 5 ft 2 and was the same weight as you and was technically obese. I have been on the lowest dose of MJ since February and have lost two stone and feel great. Have had minor side effects but v manageable. I absolutely couldn’t have done it without.

Boreded · 02/08/2026 16:23

I think a lot of the ‘just eat healthy and don’t snack’ people don’t seem to realise that Mounjaro and the others aren’t causing the weight loss, they’re helping people to stop snacking and to eat less without feeling the hunger that would normally be associated with it.

They aren’t a miracle fat burning cure, they’re a hunger suppressant. So the person is still ‘just eating healthy and not snacking’ but they get to do that without the hanger that can often accompany a low calorie and healthy diet in the beginning.

You won’t lose weight on Mounjaro without cutting your food/calorie intake, which is what people are recommending to do as an ‘alternative’ to jabs, but if you do the jab you still have to do this…

@torquayturkey Do the jabs, they’re great, they make it really easy to stick to the low calorie diet you need to lose weight.

Do you really need to. I am the same height. To lose a stone in 3 months I just cut out sugar, choc, biscuits and snacks. No eating between meals. Switch to skimmed milk. No exercise

Edited

This used to work for me until i turned 35.

Now age 41? Nope. I only lose weight if i drop to about 800 cals a day and NEVER have a day off. Im 5ft 7 too and in an office job, ive realused lately i can only eat about 1000-1200 cals a day or I gain weight continuously. Exercise (weight bearing ir cardio) seems to make very little difference.

Its depressing. I love food & used to really enjoy cooking & family meals, now I feel i must constantly restrict.

This isnt wholly true. It helps with insulin resistance, and also delays stomach emptying. This doesnt automatically happen if you just "eat healthily & cut snacks".

Everyone I know on them can’t eat at all, they feel sick and the thought of food makes them feel like vomiting. That doesn’t sound particularly pleasant to me. I’m also curious about what happens when people stop them- do they start eating properly again and regain the weight?

To me, they’re great for obese people with health conditions which is why they were created in the first place. They shouldn’t be used as yet another crash diet for lazy people who need to lose a couple of stone.

@torquayturkey don’t listen to any of these scaremongering posts. I’ve been on it for a year to go from 11 to 8 stone. No side effects and it’s changed my life. Go for it.

Yeah I mean I know it does some other stuff, what I’m trying to say is that you couldn’t just jab and eat as you are doing…you do have to also cut the snacks and eat healthy.

This was aimed at the people who seem to believe that the jabs mean someone doesn’t have to diet. They still have to diet, it’s just the jabs make the dieting easier by by suppressing the hunger, which is done in a few ways including the ones you’ve mentioned 🙂

Like the person who says they should be for ‘lazy people who just want to lose an extra stone’ - what does being lazy have to do with it, you still have to do the work to lose the weight, whether you jab or not. It’s not like free weight loss.

I don’t disagree with what you’re saying, but I would say, in my experience at least, they make being lazy easy. I haven’t had to actively diet. It’s just made me naturally reduce my calorie intake, it’s taken the work out of it. This might be the case because I’m a good responder, or (more likely in my case I think) because my diet wasn’t actually too bad, it’s stopped the comfort eating. For people who are clinically obese with worse diets (absolutely no judgment) I suspect a little more work needs to go into it to adjust eating, especially if you want it to be a lifelong change (with or without support in the long term). So I think for those of us on the lower end of overweight, they can be an easy option, I personally don’t feel any more guilt about that than I do using a dishwasher to wash my dishes. Whatever makes like easier sounds good to me.

yeah I just get frustrated that people think that taking the jabs means someone doesn’t have to change their eating habits…because it isn’t true at all.

I eat 850-1000cals a day, I meticulously weigh everything I eat, if I see friends and family and they’re drinking etc I still choose not to. I still have to say no to things I would absolutely like to eat, the jab just makes it so I’m not hangry, so that when I make the right choices my resolve is not broken so easily. And I do it whilst feeling sick for 3 days of the week.

Ive lost 3st in less than 3 months because I am taking it seriously and I am putting in the work. And people act like the jab makes it so easy it can’t possibly fail…but that’s not true.

Proteinpudding · 02/08/2026 17:08

@Boreded tbf, some people really don't change much about their eating habits other than eat less overall without having to think about it. Not everyone gets side effects from eating high fat foods for example, and if someone is very overweight to start with and is lucky enough Ty get good supression it's possible to still eat a pretty unhealthy diet, albeit reduced portions, and lose weight. But that will only be possible for a minority, and even then will only get them so far, because as they get closer to a healthy weight and their maintenance calories reduce it becomes much harder to eat at a deficit if still eating calorie dense foods even in small amounts.

Many people of course still need to actively 'diet' and plan their food on the jabs, just with the meds making it easier to stick to.

You are not eating enough calories to fuel your body properly and that rapid weight loss isn’t something to be pleased about.

SlightlyTerrifiedButPolite · 02/08/2026 17:19

Edited to remove saying go for it: I am sorry I didn’t notice what you said about your mental health. I would speak to a doctor because these GLP 1s can interact with medications. My friend has severe ADHD and mounjaro (which had been prescribed by her doctor) really turned her upside down as her medication became less effective. She also found she got very very depressed on it. Sorry I had just chimed in with “go for it” and I had missed that part of your history

I took mounjaro this year as I had a sudden 11kg weight gain from fertility treatment (endo surgery, steroids, egg collection & embryo freezing). I gained 11kg in literally 10 weeks and looked mad. 2kg came off naturally. I then naturally got pregnant and had a miscarriage, and then had a 3 month gap before I could next try an embryo transfer (my clinic said I only needed to stop mounjaro a month before I restart IVF medication as it leaves your body fast). It was honestly amazing. 9kg came off in 10 weeks. No side effects. I had headaches the first couple of days as you lose your urge to drink so I stayed on top of that. I also made sure I was still eating healthily as I am conscious of fertility. It made protein and whole feeds seem more appealing and hyper delicious foods did nothing for me. I was still eating out but it was easier to make healthy choices

I did one month at 2.5 and then went up to the 5mg for the rest. I could have stayed at 2.5 but was conscious I had a time limit but others I know have lost staying on 2.5 consistently

I was 165cm and 74kg as starting weight

I did briefly try ozempic a few years ago and that made me feel incredibly nauseous and I couldn’t stomach any food except snacky carbs (kind of defeats the point). Mounjaro works on two different pathways and was far more effective with fewer side effects. On ozempic I felt too shattered and nauseous to work out (again defeats the point)

Good luck xx

Agreed, but those who are only a little overweight most likely cannot just cut a small amount and get down, because they have lower base calorie burns. The smaller you are the more work it takes to create a calorie deficit, but one poster described those who only need to lose a smaller amount as being lazy for using the jabs.
