AIBU to be deeply concerned about the recent influx of 30k+ undocumented arrivals in Spain?

AIBU to feel really unsettled by the recent news coming out of Spain and Ceuta? Reports are showing that tens of thousands of undocumented migrants have crossed over in such a short window, completely overwhelming local infrastructure, reception centers, and security forces.

I know migration is always a sensitive and compassionate topic, but looking at these numbers practically, I don't see how any European border region can absorb 30,000 to 50,000 arrivals almost overnight without severe strain on public resources, local housing, and emergency services.

What worries me even more is the precedent it sets for the rest of Europe and the UK down the line. Surely there has to be a firm balance between humanitarian support and actual, enforceable border control?

Am I being completely unreasonable to view this as a serious policy and security crisis, or are others feeling equally concerned about where this leads?

Would love to hear honest thoughts on how this should actually be handled!

It seems to me that what gets people's backs up is when an OP comes along and drops a little stink bomb then doesn't return. The way it's written, the 3-part user name, makes it seem so deliberately goady and not genuine, until fairly recently on here it would have been called out as a 'shoddy lazy journalist' attempting to shit-stir for their publication. I agree. I think some people genuinely do write a post and then get on with their lives and either forget or come back to it later, but other times people never reappear and the drama unfolds in their wake. I guess the right way to deal with that might be to report the thread and ask MNHQ to see if it’s a genuine poster.

Why are they more likely to come to the UK from a Spanish part of North Africa than directly from Morocco? Doesn’t make sense. They haven’t crossed to continental Europe.

How are they going to get to gibraltar? They need visas to get to anywhere in europe if they are taking official routes. If not official, then being in ceuta is no advantage.

But they didn;t need to deport them because they went back to Morocco by choice as there was no food or shelter

But they would still have to cross the same sea as they would be crossing from Morocco. You think they are going to swim over to Gibraltar and then hop on a plane ?

But the point is it would be the same Journey from Ceuta as from Morocco so in terms of these particular people having access to the UK there is no difference today to a week ago.

Well, you'll be delighted to hear that these young men are no more likely to come here than any else - less likely, in fact, given that over half and rising have already been sent back.

No, I'm not worried. They have arrived in a bit of Northern Africa that Spain has held onto after decolonisation. Look up Ceuta on Google maps. As of 6pm this evening, 48,000 of the 60,000 had already gone back to Morocco, probably by walking back across the border.

Me neither. However most of the 100's of young men that are wandering about our towns and cities with no respect for women are indigenous white males. The migrant hotel in our town hasn't caused any issues . They get angry , balaclaved males outside shouting at them though. Didn't see any protests about one young woman who was murdered by her partner or the other who had her house petrol bombed by her ex. And yet we want to protect women and girls because brown men or asylum seekers are the whole issue here.

Right! And until we appreciate that we also wouldn’t accept an awful life had we not been LUCKY (because that’s all it is!) enough to be born here we’d do the same to help our families

That has led to suggestions that Morocco was seeking to pressure Spain for political reasons. Perhaps, analysts said, Morocco wanted to deter Spain from strengthening ties with Algeria, Morocco’s neighbor and rival. Mr. Sánchez visited Algeria in July, weeks after his foreign minister made a similar trip.

“For me, that plays a fairly central role,” said Lorenzo Gabrielli, a senior researcher at Pompeu Fabra University in Barcelona who researches migration in Ceuta. “It is impossible for nearly 50,000 people to cross the border between Morocco and Spain in a single day without Morocco having a hand in it,” he added.

He said it recalled an episode in 2021, when more than 10,000 people came over the border in two days, and said it was part of a cycle that Morocco uses to exert pressure on Spain.

So what exactly are we doing about the 92% of home grown ones who carry out SA's on women? You do know that SA's on women and children wouldn't stop if we deported every single man of colour from the country? Women and girls are statistically less safe in their OWN HOMES than from any migrant.
Also we used to have access to Eurodac before we left the EU. Access to the biggest database where information on fingerprints, identity etc was all shared with us. Now we have no access since we left EU. We rely on French to stop the boars at a cost of over £600 million.
Of course we need a sensible conversation on asylum claims. But lets stop the hysteria that migrants are the source of evil and the only threat to women and children here . It's at worst racism and at best Xenophobia , purported by the Daily Heil, Reform and Restore

You do realise that yes we do have our own home grown rapists and SA abusers and that it’s better not to keep allowing more abusers and rapists into the country don’t you? It’s simple logic! Your response to my post makes no sense, sorry! People can’t go saying “oh well it’s not happening over here so it doesn’t matter” and “oh well they’d have to come by boat or plane or swim to get here”, when they are literally coming overseas from France and are getting here by small boat. Not sure what the journey being “the same” has to do with anything! And what makes no difference today from a week ago? You’re not making any sense sorry!
