AIBU to be deeply concerned about the recent influx of 30k+ undocumented arrivals in Spain?

AIBU to feel really unsettled by the recent news coming out of Spain and Ceuta? Reports are showing that tens of thousands of undocumented migrants have crossed over in such a short window, completely overwhelming local infrastructure, reception centers, and security forces.

I know migration is always a sensitive and compassionate topic, but looking at these numbers practically, I don't see how any European border region can absorb 30,000 to 50,000 arrivals almost overnight without severe strain on public resources, local housing, and emergency services.

What worries me even more is the precedent it sets for the rest of Europe and the UK down the line. Surely there has to be a firm balance between humanitarian support and actual, enforceable border control?

Am I being completely unreasonable to view this as a serious policy and security crisis, or are others feeling equally concerned about where this leads?

Would love to hear honest thoughts on how this should actually be handled!

Yes I think I posted similar stats on another thread. Per head of population for the particular demographic, ME men from war torn areas are much more likely to be convicted or charged with SA. I dont think its wrong to extrapolate from that, that the rate of crime is much higher.

She just ignores it.... I feel horrific that anyone has to experience SA. It makes me sick. I feel horrific when a white person or a non-white person does it.

But do we not think men from the third world where VAWG is through the roof (more so than here) maybe pose a bit more of a threat to women?

Laws we want can be kept via domestic legislation

This is long and whether you'll be bothered to read it, I don't know. But it explains that it's vastly more difficult to do so than you might think. And will leave a lot of holes unfilled.

https://ukandeu.ac.uk/explainers/leaving-the-european-convention-on-human-rights/

Basically leaving the ECHR and trying to replace it, would be Brexit all over again, but possibly much worse. And certainly our status internationally would plummet, which in itself could be disastrous.
All for the sake if a potential (and very much not definite) decrease in small boats*

*And of course it was Brexit that needs to the increase in said boats. Do we really want to stuff it up again?

You're unlikely to hear any justification, because clearly there isn't one

And on the howls of "Who said it??" you're unlikely to hear anyone say "I support uncontrolled/undocumented migration" either, because it's couched in other terms such as:

"If you don't make other countries equal folk will come somewhere richer"
"You ignored climate change so now they'll have no choice but to leave"
"We colonised their countries and this is payback"
"I'm involved in supporting refugees" - which too often translates as advising irregular migrants which lies to tell and even providing scripts

Naturally they insist this is completely different from supporting a lack of control, but the instant that control's actually attempted they're all off again with cries about "inhumanity", "racism", "concentration camps" and all the rest

Haha the climate change seems to be a new one added to the script! As if these migrants give a shit about climate change 🤣 In fact, I don’t think a lot of the countries they come from give a shit about it for that matter, yet the lefties blame the uk for “ignoring climate change”! Bloody brilliant! 🤣🤣

I just don’t get it, do they not see what’s happening or where this ends ? Do they not want our children to be safe? A functioning society? Or is the idea to simply break everything and rebuild it as a socialist utopia ?

I have noticed actually that a lot of these people don’t have children, maybe that explains their lack of compassion for the next generation.

Climate change is an issue, not because migrants necessarily care about it per se but rather because of the impact of climate change on their living conditions.

So the lefty excuse for having them all come to the uk due to “climate change” is, rather than sort their own country out and do what they can to help the world, they should come to the UK to reap the benefits of what the UK have been doing for climate change! Then blame everyone in the UK for “ignoring climate change” Pathetic!
And ya know what? There are other countries they can go to that these migrants would be more acclimatised to… but no they won’t! You know why? Because 1. They WANT to come to the UK because we are a soft touch and 2. The other countries would not stand by and allow them to cross their borders. So nice try.

I travelled a lot in my youth. Going to Egypt, Mumbai or Morocco as a young woman can be a bit of an eye opener. I don’t want that sort of cultural enrichment for my daughters, I don’t remember anyone actually ever voting for it.

I did not say Denmark have a right wing government. I said they have a left wing government in terms of social and fiscal policies but that their policies wrt immigration are right wing. The left wing parties pivoted in terms of immigration to prevent the rise of right wing parties.

Personally, I believe labelling people/parties as left/right wing because of a single belief is ridiculously simplistic. Many of my leanings are mildly left wing, particularly in terms of fiscal and social policy. I have been labelled right wing due to my position on the trans issue. I believe women’s spaces should be protected but that trans people are perfectly entitled to live their lives as they wish so long as women’s rights are not trampled on.

I could also be labelled right wing in terms of immigration as I do believe in controls on immigration and a managed process. I also believe genuine refugees should be protected but economic migration should be managed in a sustainable way. I also believe there are concerns that need to be addressed in terms of the impact of migration on housing, education, health etc.

I used the term right wing in the way it is generally used these days wrt migration. The terminology was much easier in the past when left/right referred to economics rather than its current usage which emphasises cultural issues.

I also think that hysteria over any issue involving migrants helps nobody.

I agree with much of what you say, my concern is that labelling a policy ‘right wing’ has many unpleasant connotations. The Danes, on the right and left, just look at is a policy best for their country. Immigration is an issue that needs removing from the right/left dynamic like Trans rights.
Right and left just doesn’t reflect the complexity of the issue.

I work with asylum seekers, never ever ever ever has a claim been made by a person I have ever worked with based on climate change.

People are escaping war and torture and terror. Ideologies, not resource led.

The climate change is someone just making up excuses to justify them coming here in the boat loads. Genuine asylum seekers fair enough…. Making excuses for them coming due to climate change… nah! And I’m not even sure if the excuse can be used to claim asylum??

Ive given up trying to understand their logic, we need to stop pandering to these lunatics,

Within the next 10 years, AI is going to decimate lots of jobs. It’s going to be a painful transition for everyone. Take taxi driver/delivery driver jobs ..it’s about 500k people employed in the UK and is around 75% immigrant employees…with 3 years we won’t need them at all (we already have self driving taxis in London). It may go down to say 100k jobs. I don’t see any politicians taking about this.

You are so right and it’s something that never gets talked about. The problem is though, the lefties will still argue we need immigration while British people struggle to get jobs!

IfNot · 01/08/2026 16:41

Why do people keep saying (dismissively) that Ceuta is not Spain? It is Spain!! That’s why they have the border..? It’s been Spain for several hundred years.
Ever been to the Canary Islands? Is that Spain? Have you see where it is on a a map…? And “give Ceuta to a country to which it has never belonged” is utterly bonkers.
Anyway, this highly orchestrated invasion of nearly 50k men into an EU country is highly worrying, yes.
It seems the Moroccan government is making some kind of point (I’m not up on the ins and outs of what that might be) and one of the reasons Spanish people are concerned is the recent changes to immigration legislation by Sanchez, which many feel lay Spain open to too much irregular immigration.
Mainly though, on a basic level, if 50,000 men can swarm your border with ease then your border is not working!

It’s not an “excuse”. It’s a reason for why people migrate. Obviously people want to go where they feel they will have the best quality of life. It’s natural. Why do you think all the British migrants living in Spain etc are there?

Do I think uncontrolled migration is a good thing? No. Do I recognise reasons why people feel the need to migrate? Yes.

Exactly, I’ve always found the ‘to do the jobs that Brits think are beneath them’ line quite insulting, of course it’s meant to be in the same way lots of left wingisms are. The problem is that Brits are going to be falling over themselves for these jobs within the next 4 years. I can just see so many huge issues over the next few years.

British migrants don’t go to Spain illegally via a dinghy so there is absolutely NO comparison whatsoever!

And yes it is an “excuse”, even a pp who works with migrants has said above that they have never ever ever claimed asylum for “climate change”. And even if they do want to move here for climate change, if we keep our borders closed, they can’t! It’s that simple! Just stop with this batshittery and pathetic excuses to justify boat migrants coming to the Uk! It’s just made up trope by people like you!

Nobody is going to say they are an economic migrant if they are claiming asylum as they will have zero chance of success. The reality is people have been migrating for economic reasons/to have a better life forever. Climate change has caused a reduction in quality of life for many in the global south. People living there may or may not recognise the cause but they certainly feel the effects.
