To not let 14yo dye her hair blue!

Daughter has just turned 14, she's ordered herself a crazy colour bottle of sapphire blue hair dye and wants to dye her very long, dark brown hair blue.

We have a big family wedding on the 15th August, plus I doubt it'll all wash out before she returns to school.

Now having a major meltdown but I don't think I am being unreasonable to say no, do you? A

DD tried with a box dye to dye her mid-dark brown hair blue when she was 16. It didnt work. Then she asked if she could get it done at the hairdresser. 2 hairdressers advised against blue, so she had it bleached first, and then the ends (about 6") dyed purple - at eye watering expense! She kept those for 6 or 7 weeks and then had it cut before school started.
But tbh the bleach really dried out her hair and made it tangled even with opalex(?)
Shes nearly 20 now and hasn't been interested in colouring it again.

It's not nonsense at all. But even without that, I wouldn't have any blue hair in my home. Same goes for tattoos and piercings other than a single ear lobe. My house, my rules.

And what's the rationale? You just like controlling people? Or does it harm you in some way?

It won’t do much, if anything, to dark brown hair.

It will be barely noticeable on dark hair (ask me how I know 😉) so it's not worth the fight.

If you think it will upset the bride, tell her you'll help her do it the day AFTER the wedding.

It’s highly unlikely to work on dark brown hair. My daughter tried blue hair dye on her highlited hair at a similar age, it turned the blonde bits into a gungy green colour 🤪.

After leaving school she bleached her hair then dyed it pink, I’ve got to admit it really suited her. My daughter has tried all sorts of colours and shaved her hair off on one side many years ago, thankfully all the crazy colours didn’t do any serious damage. I wouldn’t dare do it to my hair, some kids are more daring than others 🤗

Will the wedding couple still let her be in the bridal party though? I would hope so, they’ve chosen her and it would be awful if they didnt. She could always dye it brown before the wedding.

It’s her hair. Let her do what she wants. I’ve told my dd she can dye her hair any colour. It bothers me more she keeps straightening her lovely curly hair.

18 yo DD has blue hair. She's neither chronically online, or self diagnosed with anything. She does self identify as a lesbian, but given that she's been shagging a woman for the past year, I don't think the blue hair is the primary signifier of that.

I have far too much experience of this. It's going to be a very disappointing fail for DS.

Oh let her do it! It is rhe beginning of the hols and even if it takes on such dark hair it will have faded by September.
My DD had tiger stripes in her long hair at that age .... it looked fabulous.
And my 13 year old DGD has just dyed her light brown hair purple... she looks lovely!
Relax and go with the flow and enjoy her hair experiments together.

Eh, if she's old enough that me and her Mum have to bloody listen to it, she's old enough that I can call it shagging.

She'd have been more disgusted the other week if I asked her to "keep the noise down when you and X are 'making love'"

I’ve dyed my 12 year old daughter’s hair blue. I helped her do it . Shes been asked for a few years . We bleached it first then dyed it , only peekaboo (just the underneath) come September we will dye it back to normal for school . We had a few issues with attitude for the last year or so, I think it’s certainly made us closer . She likes to curl it and it looks bloody amazing.

There's a few people in the anti-those things groups I'm in on Facebook who have blue hair. I've dyed my hair blue as well, and purple. Fancy doing pink next. I have dark brown hair with (natural) white streaks, and Manic Panic is supposedly good for sticking to dark hair and giving some colour, so I'll have dark pink with bright pink streaks. 😊

I've wanted to dye my hair bright pink for ages and always said I'll wait until it's white so I don't have to bleach it.
