To not let 14yo dye her hair blue!

Daughter has just turned 14, she's ordered herself a crazy colour bottle of sapphire blue hair dye and wants to dye her very long, dark brown hair blue.

We have a big family wedding on the 15th August, plus I doubt it'll all wash out before she returns to school.

Now having a major meltdown but I don't think I am being unreasonable to say no, do you? A

I'd tip it down the sink in front of her. Not a chance in hell I'd allow that in my home.

I cant imagine caring whether people thought I was ND? It's not a negative thing.

When my kids were that age, I would have gone ballistic. But age has made me a lot wiser. So, she goes to the wedding with blue hair - it’s really not as bad as you think. And make sure she knows that before she returns to school, she will be dying it back to a normal colour again.
I don’t think blue hair looks good, but you may as well make all the mistakes at that age and learn from them.

First day of the holidays, I helped my dd do her summer dip dye. It looks great, everyone admires it and she is chuffed. It'll wash out by September, absolutely what the summer is for after all those petty uniform rules all year.

This wouldn’t bother me, plus her hair is unlikely to go very blue (I have dark brown hair myself).

Why exactly?

I'd be more concerned about the piercing. Many won't do belly button piercing on under 16s even with parental consent.

Because it looks absolutely ridiculous and because it's now a symbol of being part of some chronically online group of people who love self-diagnosing with illnesses and disabilities they don't have and "identifying" as bizarre things.

Half the children in my daughter's year have bright blue hair at the moment. And they are all outgoing active types.
Just because a group you (it seems) disapprove of use a particular colour, that doesn't mean others can't use it.

Let her do what she wants, why not have blue hair for the wedding? She needs to bleach it first. Why not help her? Watch Hair Buddha on YouTube, he's great.

Brace yourself, my daughter was doing her own piercings when she was a little older than this. She often has bright pink hair and looks amazing.

It’ll be fine. A few years ago my son was desperate to have orange hair - we did it together on the first day of the school holidays. Still a good memory now :)

Let her do it and help her. Make it fun thing that you do together.

It won’t work on her dark hair , but she will enjoy the fun of doing it with you

As she's part of the bridal party I'd probably tell her to hold off until after the wedding and then I'd help her turn her hair as blue as it could go.

Belly button piercing at 14 would be a tough one for me, actually.

God that was me at 14 , piercing my own ears with a needle and an ice cube 🤦‍♀️

My only rule now with my daughters is that I take them to get them done properly 😬

It won’t work on brown hair anyway, as others have said, so you’re making yourself the bad guy for no reason.

My DD12 dyes her bleached hair all sorts of colours and her school couldn't care less. Why do people get so uptight about this kind of stuff?

Unless she strip bleaches it first you’ll barely notice it on dark hair

Dd15 has blue hair for the summer (it was bleached last year, pink the year before. Dd10 has bleached money pieces. I honestly don’t get the issue. Crazy colours never last (unless pre bleached), bleach can be over dyed. Ditto ear piercing. Let them experiment - it’s not permanent
