To strongly dislike small dogs

Full disclosure: golden retriever owner of 30+ years… never had and never will have another breed.

I just don’t understand the fascination with little dogs. So many are horrible, yappy little things that get away with murder because they’re small. Only breed that I’ve ever been bitten by is a dachshund (x 2!!) and it always seems to be terrier or schnauzer types that launch at DDog. Generally they seem to attract people who haven’t got a clue re: dog ownership or can’t be bothered having a ‘proper’ dog - they don’t train properly and seem to just leave the tiny dog sitting at home all day barking at windows.. lacking mental + physical stimulation.

I am not really a dog lover but in the unlikely event I were to have a dog i would probably go for a larger one. My best friend has two mini dachshunds and while pretty cute, they hold little interest for me. Contrary to your assumptions about small dog owners they are well loved, well cared for, well trained and my friend works from home so they are rarely left alone. I get that it appears small dogs are fashionable but that should not be a factor in which dog you get, my friend had a mini dachshund because she wanted a dog and he needed a home, it was convenient.

My small 8kg poodle was just ambushed by a huuuuge Weimaraner. He literally sprinted right up to her nose as soon as he clocked her.

Luckily it was playful (if a bit rude) but my heart was in my mouth.

Not a single bark from her, as is always the case on all our walks. She has never barked on a walk. Truly.

But sure - all small dogs are yappy. And owners of big dogs are superior... 🙄
