To ask what year your car is?

Mine is a 2012 hatchback, I wanted something cheap, reliable, easy to run and cheap repair costs and I'm happy with what I've got. I seem to be in a friend circle with nothing older than 2020 which is tough where they all fawn over each other's car but I've made the correct choice for me. Which is yours?

We lease so it's 2025, I suspect many of your friends with new cars probably do the same.

2011 hatchback. Had from brand new.

How much difference does that make really though? You’ll likely be doing a similar number of journeys, they need to go where they need to go, the same car will just be on the road more than if there were 2+ cars.

Got it last year to replace a 2009 car

Mine is 2018 (bought in 2022), it's by far the newest car I've even owned. My previous car was 22 years old when it was scrapped, I had it for about 15 years of those 22 (& my mum had it for the previous 6, I bought it from her).
DH is 2024, it was brand new (something that neither of us has ever had before) but that's because it's a company car.

I was discussing this with DS earlier funnily enough and was saying that I would have to have serious amounts of money before I weighed out for a new car (a colleague is paying £450 a month for a nice enough, not brand spanking new Audi that she's terrified of damaging and will have to hand back after 3 years)

Admittedly my MOT's are a bit hairier now but I've never paid out anything annually like she does. I have recently committed to proper regular servicing and I always have top notch recovery so I feel reasonably happy that I'm covered.

Someone lightly scraped my car in a NT car park last week and I was irritated but shrugged my shoulders and moved on. When it's not so hot and dusty I may splash out on some T-Cut, but I may possibly not as well 😆

2014 Hyundai. Low mileage, around 52k. Had it 3.5 years, previous (and first) car was a 2009 Mazda.

2016 and 2006. I don't like taking things on finance. My ex's dad used to make fun of my dad's "old car," but my dad took the route of buying something economical and of older quality, whereas my ex's dad would buy the latest car and be snobby but pay it up out of his average wage every month...I understand what you mean, everyone I know has new cars too and seems so impressed by them but for us we have different priorities and its not for me.

1st is 2016
2nd car is 2017
3rd is 2018

2009 - had it from new. It’s been a great car.

2013, it’s done us brilliantly but getting more expensive to repair in the past year or so. We will need to replace it soon I reckon and could really do with something a bit bigger.
I do not care how old it is and that it’s not ‘desirable’ but bloody hell, we’ve had many people tell us they ‘wouldn’t be seen dead in such a shit car!’ so rude! I have friends paying huge amounts monthly for their cars, and yes, they’re beautiful but £500+ payments, I just couldn’t!

You can drive fewer miles overall in several different cars just as easily as you can drive them in one.

2025 but only because we do a 3-year lease through my husband's work! Saves having to worry about tax, MOT and insurance - much easier. Plus it means we get a brand new car every three years - the thrill of getting a car with only a couple of miles on it when it's delivered will never go away, I don't think. We went through years of only being able to afford old bangers!

2011 Volvo. Runs amazingly. I used to have a brand new Skoda. My 15 year old Volvo could run circles around it.
