Assuming that those things actually even work, they only test for 4 drugs. I was spiked with MDMA so they wouldn’t have helped me at all.

sunshinesuzey · 23/07/2026 19:25

I agree but how can it be stopped?

Everyone says that the Police should do something, but what?

Someone said CCTV in Bars but who will pay for that.?

People spike drinks because they think they can get away with it. If investigation followed by prosecution was more common, they would think twice and it would become less of a problem. The bars and clubs can pay for the CCTV as an expected business expense. They pay for security anyway to keep their customers safe, this is this same sort of thing.

openended · 24/07/2026 07:25

I hope your dd is on the mend and am glad as a family you have all rallied round. I do think this is worth posting on social media should she want to. It would serve to alert those in the local area and for the bar to be more vigilant.

CCtv should be mandatory in all places that serve food and drink The cost as per usual will be passed onto the paying customer but most will accept that if the cctv is present in all areas and maintained.

I agree, but what would motivate this course of action ?

There's nothing in it for the clubs/pubs/bars and as long as people keep drinking it will continue.

It’s for the police to investigate, not the clubs and bars. The motivation is that a crime has been committed, and it’s their job.

A friend of my son’s told me she was spiked with a syringe - just a tiny pinprick in her leg in a club in north London. Her friend found her passed out on the ground outside the club a bit later. Nothing stolen - very strange and unsettling. She only realised the next day when she discovered a tiny red mark on her leg.

My friend's son was found dead in a hotel room with so much ghb in his system he could never have survived. The police let the men with him leave and subsequently " lost" all the evidence. The police do not care.
Google Edward Cornes.

Omg, I just googled Edward Cornes, what a travesty, the poor chap and his family.

It's already been explained to you that it's a licensing condition in many areas. It also helps stop other crimes such as staff skimming from the tills, or robbery - both of which cost the business money.

Why are you so determined to argue that any action to prevent or investigate these crimes is impossible?

If it isn't impossible, then why isn't it happening ?
Why aren't people writing to their MPs, their local Police and Crime Commissioner?
Why aren't people protesting outside the Home Office?
Why is there no political will to address this?

I could go on, but you get my drift.

Ok….. wow what a lot of responses!
She’s now recovering and talking, but will be in ITU for another 24 hrs as they’re monitoring her heart and kidneys
So, what she remembers is that she went to the bar, bought drinks( hers was non alcoholic) had a sip, turned to tap her card on the payment machine!!
Other than that split second the girls never had their drinks out of their sight
Her test results confirmed their was no alcohol in her blood.
Both girls have tested positive for the same drug.
police are saying it’s hard to prove!
I’ve lost faith in humanity…..,
Glad she’s on the mend, but I’m feeling beyond sad……

What drug was it OP?

I hope she makes a very swift recovery.

As a follow up to my last post I have now found this organisation -

If everyone on this thread got involved, (especially those throwing abuse at me) we might get somewhere.

just saw this on instagram, apparently it’s available in Spanish pharmacies, hopefully it’ll be in the UK at some point.

It’s a little cube that you put in your drink. if it detects something, it changes colour and congeals the drink. if not, you can just keep drinking.

i think it’s better than the strips because you can turn your eye away from the drink and don’t have to keep testing.

Edit to add it’s given free at some summer events by the organisers.

Same sort of reasons why domestic violence wasn’t taken seriously in the not-to-distance past: cultural attitudes in the force and lack of guidance from the Home Office.

OK.
So time to turn it around.

The only problem with these things is that none of them detect all possible drugs, many only detect the classic ‘date rape’ drugs but it’s quite common for people to use any random recreational drug they have on them. I’m sure it’s better than nothing but I wouldn’t want people to live in a false sense of security and lower their guard because they are using products like this.

Brooklyn70 · 24/07/2026 10:08

@ProfessionalPirate
this is what it detects, i agree we may never have a product that detects 100% of drugs and that women should still be alert, but im guessing they’ve started with the most common/widely available drugs used.

Narxcup detects common chemical submission drugs, specifically targeting GHB (liquid ecstasy), burundanga (scopolamine), MDMA, and barbiturate derivatives.

You've bought the "abuse" (i.e. pushback) on yourself.

You know, like you think spiking victims have by not being immune to sleight of hand.

BinNightTonight · 24/07/2026 11:00

I'm so sorry, how terrifying. I'm glad your DD and her friend are "okay" and awake etc.

Rumors1 · 24/07/2026 11:18

Willowskyblue · 23/07/2026 15:43

Spiking isn’t just limited to drinks. It can be done via vapour and other methods.

In the town next to me there were a few girls who were injected in nightclubs. It was horrific, some of them were very unwell.

I had my drink spiked while with friends. I left my drink at the table to go to the loo, only time I wasnt right in front of it. It was obviously a "friend" that did it. Luckily I didnt finish it all as I had to catch a bus or God know what state I would have been in. It was terrifying, I was completely disorientated and my heart was beating out of my chest. I got lost in the city on the way to find the bus and wandered the streets for ages.

Nope, I do not agree at all that the victims of these crimes should be held accountable. That’s like saying a rape victim should be held accountable for wearing a mini skirt or walking home alone at night.

It’s a good idea to take precautions as far as possible and not leave drinks unattended, but it only takes a momentary distraction. There are videos online demonstrating how easy it is to slip something into a drink that someone is holding if you care to look them up.
