AIBU to hope for a fresh start by the sea on £250k

I am mid fifties and want a new start. No family support. AIBU to think I can find a house by the sea or in a low-crime market town with a maximum budget of £250k? Any ideas?

My partner has just bought a seafront modern apartment for 145k in Bridlington

St Bees is lovely, but quite remote.
North Norfolk beaches are stunning, but you won’t get a lot for your money.
Aberdyfi is one of my favourite places in Wales.
You can just about afford south Kent.

Narberth is a really nice town.

You can get very reasonably priced garden offices, so don’t rule out 2 beds, with outside space. I have one of these and it’s brilliant.

how about Teignmouth in Devon it’s a beautiful seaside town lovely and quiet? Although not sure what the houses prices are as I’m from a few towns over but we have plenty of beaches to choose from in this area should we want to visit a beach one day.

What about Burry port on the south wales coast? My friend lives there and it’s lovely.

You can get 3 bed properties in costal towns in Devon or Norfolk for that price. Both are lovely places that’s we’ve visited several times.

Portland in Dorset has quite a few 3 bed places for sale for under £250k.

You’d only be able to afford anything on the Wirral around Birkenhead for 250 prices have rocketed recently without their local salaries to support them

Is this a forever move because besides looking at areas you need to consider if in the long run a house, bungalow or flat is the best move.
Brighton and Hove are expensive but if you are happy to have a flat there are some within your price range. Hove is imo much nicer than Brighton and both have so much to offer. Alternatively trawl a little wider- Lancing,Worthing, Telscombe, Newhaven etc.

There’s nothing near the coast for the most part unless it’s somewhere commutable to London. When you look at the Yorkshire coast for example it’s often at least an hour’s drive to the closest city and that city will just be York so not a big vibrant one. No industry there away from tourism, not much for teens to do and such. It’s desirable for older people who want a quiet life. You’ll subsequently find house prices tend to be on the lower side.

Even so, the OP has said she doesn't need access to a big city and hasn't mentioned any teens that need entertaining.

I’d look at North Devon - in particular Westward Ho!, Northam and Appledore.

I’ve just looked on Right Move and there are some smaller (2-3bed) houses and bungalows in these areas.

My dream is to move down to this part of the world and, if I had no one else to consider and I could work from home, this is where I would head in a heartbeat.

Have a look at Abergavenny.

Can you push the budget OP? If you can I would be looking at Rye or around that area. Two of my best friends retired down there and it’s a lovely place, camber sands nearby. I did spot a 2 bed in camber for your budget but it’s not really a town. Hastings up the coast a bit is slightly cheaper and on the up.

We are doing just that. Relocating to the coast in our mid 50’s . A little coastal town in between Fishguard and Cardigan. If not bothered about a parking space you could get a little house there .i see others have said against south west wales can they say why ?

Which is nowhere near the sea. At least an hour by train to Cardiff Central then on to Cardiff Bay which doesn't have a beach.

A family member of mine lives in a little village called Coldingham with a lovely beach. I'm always jealous when we visit! Close to Berwick-Upon-Tweed and only about an hour from Edinburgh. I think this cottage looks so cosy: www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/90551127
