Tell your H that better EVs are available and that driving a brand new Tesla will give him zero street cred - people will not think he is cool, they will think he is a brown nosing Elon Musk loving Trump supporting right wing twat.

I agree entirely. I abhor Musk and his political interference in the US, UK and Europe. There’s no way I would be financially benefiting him at all.
Plus he’s a misogynist in my opinion.
In our road of just 65 houses there are 5 Tesla cars. I cal them Tacky Teslas.

Volkswagen was the brainchild of Adolf Hitler (not a joke).

But that was eighty odd years ago. Musk is here and now, more’s the pity.

So much virtue signaling.

It isn’t virtue signalling, just voting with your wallet. Why would you want to put money in the pocket of a vile white supremacist nazi c*nt?

Sorry, didn’t mean to write and run!
So, his justification is that it would be a company car (so he’s not really buying it) and that he does a lot of mileage for his job - Tesla gets a lot of miles and you can use their charger stations.
But honestly, I wouldn’t be seen dead in it 🤣 I drive a clapped out old thing and love it, so perhaps it’s not a fair comparison. He’s never been a splurgey spender and owns nothing designer etc. Maybe it’s his mid life crisis.

Honestly I think they are ugly and soul less to look at inside and out BUT I have been electric driver for years and their technology and charging is seamless. Not enough to make me get one as I say they’re ugly but if he’s on the road a fair bit then it’s probably a good idea. Other brands of charger are shite and Tesla open some up to other brands but not all

And the people that have burned alive as the doors locked them in

Tesla driver and two kids burned alive because rescuers can't open electronic doors: reports
A Tesla driver and two kids were burned alive after crashing into a tree because rescuers were unable to open the electronic doors, according to police.

Inside the fiery, deadly crashes involving the Tesla Cybertruck | Tesla | The Guardian
This article is more than 3 months old
Cybertrucks have locked passengers inside and burned so hot they’ve disintegrated drivers’ bones. Victims’ families blame what they say is the faulty design of a truck Elon Musk calls ‘apocalypse-proof’

The blaze in Baytown, Texas, was one of five known Cybertruck fires that the Guardian has tracked – a significant amount, considering the vehicle has only sold 60,000 units and debuted just two years ago. These incidents involve four fatalities, including the deaths of three college students in California, and have been the subject of four lawsuits against Tesla. In a comprehensive look at fire danger, particularly of Cybertrucks, the Guardian has obtained hundreds of pages of police, fire and autopsy reports and court filings and company manuals, as well as interviewed lawyers and safety experts. They – as well as the families suing Tesla – allege the Cybertruck’s design led to these worst-case scenarios where fires rapidly ignite, the vehicle’s electric door handles won’t unlock and passengers are trapped inside.

Yes I came to respond exactly this. I wouldn't go near a tesla purely on safety reasons, or any car with retractable door handles and any that doesn't have a manual override for opening doors.

But the majority of people won't think that. It might be hard for you to understand but not everyone has the same thoughts about Teslas that you have.

But a cursory look through the comments here tells you that a huge number of people do.

The leap from driving a Tesla (to be environmentally friendly) to being considered a Nazi is just incredible.

The word ‘Libtard’ springs to mind.

That's the really depressing point of this thread that huge numbers of posters seem much more comfortable purchasing cars made with the labour of minority Muslim Uyghurs out of concentration camps in Xingjiang than they do from Tesla because they disagree with the views of Elon Musk.

I guess some of us have higher ethical standards than others.

There are lots of other excellent EV choices available without having to stoop to the depths of buying a Tesla.

Are you politically aligned with the CEOs of all the other companies you buy stuff from then?

Some you may not know, but Elon is very vocal about it. He has said he thinks black people are stupid and lack intelligence, I’m black and I disagree so I would not support anything Tesla or to do with him.

CEO of xyz company may think the same but if it’s not vocalised and I don’t know then ignorance is bliss.

similarly with companies that are pro Zionist, I avoid those etc

Ps tell him to look up the cost of new tyres, it’s eye wateringly expensive!!

Many are on salary sacrifice, tyres are included in monthly payment.

I only know one person with a Tesla, and that’s my neighbour. He tells me he feels vilified every time he goes out in it, regularly scowled at by other road users and no-one ever lets him out at junctions. A sharp contrast to driving his little old MG at the weekends he tells me, where people’s reactions are the exact opposite. Just one anecdote of course, I’m sure not everyone will share the same experience.

Shhhhdonottell · 14/07/2026 13:00

We have a tesla, bought before tosser Elon twatted around with the orange buffoon and nazi saluted. One thing I’d say, and I haven’t driven other ev’s, it’s a fucking boring drive. As far as someone asking about all the gadgets/games etc, they don’t work whilst car is being driven, most are pointless add ons. I did find it funny one of our acquaintances refused to have a nazimobile tesla and proceeded to get a bmw!

Whereas you are perfectly OK with products made using slave Labour by Muslim minority Uyghurs in concentration camps?

I guess going by the many posts on this thread you are absolutely right that ignorance is bliss.

Never had that experience in 6 years of owning a Tesla 🤔

Fimofriend · 14/07/2026 13:53

So some posters act as if no one refrains from buying from a company because of the owner/ founder/CEO, and that this is a new thing and not feasible.

Well, I won't buy a Tesla because of Musk. I won't eat at Whetherspoons because their CEO was a proper twat in the BREXIT debate and because the employees are treated badly. I won't buy products from America because of Trump. I won't buy a Dyson because the founder promoted BREXIT and then moved some of the production to Europe.I have never bought products from Israel due to the illegal occupations of the West Bank. I am 53 years old. Never. Ever.

So yes, if I find that that the leader of a company or country is a total asshole, I will not buy their products

Flailingaroundatlife · 14/07/2026 13:54

Do you only buy products from companies that you approve of the owner then?

Its just a car.

I think being aware is always a good thing. No, I wouldn't have a Tesla.

I never said I was, so if you could enlighten me and tell me the products that have been made with Muslim slave labour.

I'm against all forms of slavery fyi

I don’t know everything nor do I pretend to, I’m happy to learn and be informed. What I spoke about are things that I know, re Elon’s view on black people and I’m against that…go figure.
