I know there have probably been other threads asking this, but really .... why?

Why would you say he is a "man of the people?"'(Public school educated stockbroker / multi millionaire)

Genuinely, what appeals about him?

If you voted Brexit, have you forgotten that he resigned from public office that day after his Leave campaign won?

It's an anonymous forum, so please be honest.

God this is getting depressing.

Where are you getting your information from? What makes you think labour aren't trying to stop the boats?

Where did I say they weren't trying. I said that they WERE trying because of the threat of Reform.

SaySomethingMan · 10/07/2026 21:56

Trump is president. Gos forbid but it’s not impossible for Reform to govern the UK.

Lifeispeach · 10/07/2026 21:57

Befause people are fed up. That’s why. fed up working like dogs to support benefits Britain. Also the middle went far too left and so the right are sounding a lot more appealing. Love or loathe him… he’s the only one brave enough to take the tough decisions to change things.

GreenVelvetTrousers · 10/07/2026 21:58

Why should I? How entitled of you to think you have the right to know why other people support people politically 🙄

Shedmistress · 10/07/2026 22:02

Izzyink · 10/07/2026 21:36

And maybe you need to stop telling other posters what they can post on MN.

I'm a bit fed up of the 'head girls' on MN thinking they rule the roost.

You told me I needed to read all your other posts. It isn't me telling people what they can and can't say.

I'm just suggesting the repeated insulting of people who have other opinions can backfire. Because someone on here called people stupid if they voted for him.

MeetMeOnTheCorner · 10/07/2026 22:02

My Gardner supports Reform. Not well
educated but a practical person. He wants Reform to disrupt the political landscape. It’s totally ludicrous to want instability but he’s not the brightest. I fear there are millions like him.

He’s not ever made much money but he’s not bothered to get qualifications either. We are a long way from the sea and no migrant accommodation here as far as I know, but he relies on his younger wife for money. She’s an immigrant. In many ways, his views are dangerous. Lenders don’t like disrupters. Mortgage costs will go up - his wife is applying for one as the higher earner. They are buying a house in a Reform hot spot. Andy Burnham won’t convince people like them. No chance because they don’t understand economics, the cost of borrowing and what affects it or that instability is bad for business and stops any idea if growth. Yet these idiots will make us all suffer!

NeverLookInTheMirror · 10/07/2026 20:00

No it really isn’t.

Do people need reminding of 1930’s Germany?

Of what’s happening in the US?

There’s voting for an independent to not give the vote to someone else, it’s a protest and doesn’t hold any clout.

But when you vote for someone like Farage you run the risk that he could come to power, and then what? By then it’s too late for the other parties, and no party is going to change their strategies overnight.

It’s an absolutely stupid strategy, but nobody wants to admit that they actually like Farage and want Reform in power because then that shows them up for the kind of person they are.

The reality is that people vote for Farage because they like him.

And because they agree with the shite he spouts.

What’s happening in the US…that would be deporting illegal aliens and the introduction of policy of the United States to recognise two sexes, male and female.

Sounds good to me.

CatesandAle · 10/07/2026 21:35

Put it this way: anyone who votes for an actual political candidate, who if elected will have real power that will affect real people’s lives, just to ‘piss people off’, is not somebody who is making the best use of the intelligence they have.

Everyone who voted, voted for someone who has real political power to affect people's lives. What are you on about?

Sunshinesuzsie · 10/07/2026 22:06

@MeetMeOnTheCorner he’s not the brightest.

I vote Reform because Nigel Farage has policies that I like. Yes it's immigration but also lower taxes, cutting benefits, much smaller civil service. More support for the private sector where all the money that this country relies on is created.
And I'm not some thicky. I've a senior role and a master'sdegree

yellowspanner · 10/07/2026 22:13

Qb2654 · 10/07/2026 22:29

I dont support farage but I do fully resonate with the frustration and disillusion with both tories and labour. I feel very very politically homeless

EasternStandard · 10/07/2026 22:29

NotMajorTom · 10/07/2026 20:43

Because the thread isn’t a genuine attempt to find out why, it’s so people can ask supporters of farage why they are so stupid and tell them why they are wrong.

im not one by the way, but I can see why anyone who is would see the bloody obvious bear trap

These threads are quite frequent and most probably avoid posting as it’s a bear trap to be insulted as you say.

And THIS is the kind of thing I am talking about. Snide, thinly-veiled attacks and mocking, and piss-taking. And that's before any Farage fans have said anything.

And you wonder why people who support Reform/Farage don't want to come onto threads like this and speak up? 🙄

(As I said, I am NOT a fan of Reform/Farage myself!)

.

Edited

I'm not bring snide or thinly veiling everything. What you read is exactly what I intend to say.
Reform supporters are often on these boards and post aggressively against those with other views. Their favourite thing being liberal use of the laugh emoji to sneer at other posters.
Yet when there's a whole thread offered to them to share what's good about the party they support...tumbleweed.
And this is supposedly because they've turned from the confident assertive posters who are all over the chance to laugh at 'lefties', to too intimidated to post?
And I'm not attacking Farage supporters. As you say they havent come to the thread, have they?My comments are aimed at the I'm not a Farage supporter me, certainly not, god forbid..people who want us to believe the real Reform voters are too scared to post.

Why would people in Clacton be voting for him though. It can't just be 'immigration.' What is the appeal?

Clacton has a mix like most places but includes a very poor, almost shanty town area. There is serious, serious deprivation. I think they just want someone who seems to care about “people like them”. It’s terribly misguided but I can understand why he appealed. My hope is that his evident lack of attentiveness for clacton may mean he loses their respect.

Why can't it be immigration?

The average immigrant costs more to the taxpayer than they pay in
There is a huge amount of social housing that goes to immigrants
For some reason, no politician can get houses built, and due to immigration the population is growing faster than housing stock, so we're all squeezing into less housing per capita

Yes, lots of reform's other policies are bad. But all parties have terrible policies! Reform have 1 good policy and many terrible policies. The rest are all terrible.

Give me a politician who will reform the planning process and let people build houses, give me a politician who can credibly make sure we only accept net contributor immigrants, and I'll vote for them enthusiastically - but that isn't an option that I have open to me.

FirstNationsEnglish · 10/07/2026 22:37

Maybe those who voted leave and who agree with Reform, are not bothered in the slightest about Mumsnetters who demonstrate sneery superiority by being so rude about the ‘knuckle dragging thickos’. Maybe the Reformers think they don’t have to justify themselves to the self-appointed ‘elite’ who demand explanations, the sole purpose being to enjoy their echo-chamber pile-on? 🤷.

I assume that they felt that they didn’t get any help under the tories and once Labour got in it would all be wonderful.
When nothing changed they are annoyed especially when they see billions being spent on immigrants. So why is their money for people from overseas and not people born here?

Although I’ve never been to Clacton so that could be a load of rubbish.

Reform don't have a good policy on immigration. And I say that objectively.
You may think they have a good mission statement on immigration, but the policy to achieve it is very thin, very flawed and comes with serious consequences.
There is a great deal of complex legislative changes required that will have significant impact on our own laws and protections, they will take a long time to draft and even longer to get through both houses. Reform would need a huge majority and to convince the Lords.
Twelve months notice is required to leave certain commitments before they could even get started.
When you dig below the ra ra to the nitty gritty work needed, you're looking at at least a year, probably more, before they could tow the first boat back to France.
All our political parties except the Greens are committed to tackling illegal immigration. But there's no quick fix. And that's the case for Reform as well.

tobee · 10/07/2026 22:48

I think there are many people who don’t think about politics from one election to the next. They’ve got other things going on in their lives that are more important to them than that. Especially party politics. They might be likely to vote for Farage because he’s famous. He has a high recognition factor. Just like Boris Johnson and ex tv star Trump in America. Maybe if you live in Clacton you might find it flattering to have a celebrity MP standing in your constituency.
