A message to the people of Clacton

You will win the undying respect and gratitude of the whole nation if you use your votes to kick Farage out and elect Count Binface as your local MP.

And I don't think you will regret it. Underneath the silliness, there is an intelligent man with a genuine commitment to democracy. He might be a joker, but I believe he would serve you well if elected. And definitely better than Farage.

I am not a leftie, nor sneering (in the main! 😬). More a centrist with some right and some left leaning tendencies.

Farage is corrupt and utterly unsuitable for office. Binface would be a great MP for Clacton, and I hope he manages to get this message through to the voters there (particularly the 54% who didn't vote for Farage in the GE).

Left leaning centrists or right leaning centrists try to articulate reasoned debate. They appear to be in the minority when these issues come up. Whether anyone is left or right, they aren't going to sway others when they are condescending.

Are you suggesting that I'm a bot?

If not, what's your point?

As for being obsessed with Farage, no, not really. But deeply concerned for our democracy, well yes. It seems unsurprising to me that the shockingly corrupt behaviour of someone who is frequently touted as a future PM is likely to be a talking point for many people.

I'm actually hopeful that this will finally pop Reform's bubble and Farage being touted as a future PM will fade away.

There's no way on this earth that Farage actually wants to be PM. He'd have to show up day after day after day and do some bloody work! The man is an agitator and always has been.

I felt a bit sorry for the people on the beach who were hi jacked by a bbc presenter yesterday to ask about it in Clacton. They clearly didn’t know about the money he had received and didn’t seem very informed about why his doing this. I know many people who don’t follow politics and don’t take any notice, but it felt like a coup ‘ oh let’s find people who don’t have much of a clue’ :(

To be fair, most vox pops seem to catch the dimmest people in society. I think there is an element of the Dunning Kruger effect. Bright, informed people realise the limitations of their knowledge on a subject and would avoid the camera. Stupid people aren't aware of how stupid they are, and don't realise they're about to make a fool of themselves on national television.

I would say that Clacton would go up in the estimations of many in this country if they voted for Binface. These seaside towns which keep voting for far right parties stand zero chance of turning their towns around if they keep voting for wealthy, privileged men who are pretending to be their chums. The contempt that their MPs hold for them. Is glaring but they don't see it.

IStillHearTheWaves · 10/07/2026 07:55

You've never been to Clacton, have you?

If those 'intelligent' people presented their arguments free of insults and/or derision towards other voters, you might have a point. So yes, they remain sneery lefties. The only balanced views I see on the matter are from those who find the Greens as much of an extremist threat. Funny how it's OK to reduce everything to the 'far' right when discussing immigration and law and order though.

'Leftie' isn't an insult for you to you use when you feel people have insulted you though. Rupert Lowe regularly sneers at Farage and Reform, does that make him a 'leftie'?
And everyone who believes the Greens are extreme is balanced? So that would include many Labour voters?
Discussions on immigration and law and order don't reduce everything to the far right. People from all shades of politics have views on that. Some of those views, such as reintroduction of the death penalty and deportation of British citizens who weren't born in the UK are indeed objectively far right policies. So naturally they will be named as such. Far right groups have no issue being described as far right, so I'm not sure what your problem is?

He's not really relevant enough yet to hold my attention. I see him as background noise. I'm more focused on the incoming PM and the unnecessary drama surrounding him. Clacton will do what Clacton feels right, for their constituency.

I can't work out if you're being disingenuous or not. There is the right and there is the far right, as you know. How does wanting the death penalty make you far right? Right maybe but certainly not far right. I'm not interested in what sociological or criminological theories present either. I go by lived experience, as do other voters who are adversely affected by something.

I think a lot of far right and racist people can't admit to themselves that they are far right and racist. For them to be called a racist is actually worse than them being a racist. I think there is an element of cognitive dissonance - deep down they know that it's wrong to be racist and far right, yet they are so they need to reject the label to be able to cope with the reality that deep down they aren't good people.

It falls into the banality of evil too. Evil, twisted people can still be loving, kind, funny and decent people to those they love and those that are in their 'in group'. They don't consider themselves to be bad people. The film The Zone of Interest demonstrated this perfectly.

A fairly high proportion of the worlds executions happen in socialist countries.

No, I'm not being disingenuous at all. I agree entirely there is right and far right, and centrist, left and far left, plus off shoots of Liberalism through to anarchists.
The whole point of my post was to challenge you on your view that everyone anti Reform is a 'leftie'.
Wanting the death penalty is objectively a far right policy. Rather than me type out the reasons, which would take a long time, Google it for the explanation.
Unfortunately there will be some theory there, but its hard to explain a concept such as a political ideology without theory.
I suppose its possible for someone who is left leaning in all other regards to have had a lived experience that makes them support the death penalty, for example, being a family member of a victim. However this would be very rare as the death penalty isn't even universally supported by families of victims.
Studies show that only 31% of families where their loves ones murderer was executed said it brought them closure, and that there is significant preference amongst families for perpetrators to suffer whole life sentences, rather than 'escape justice' through death.

I wish she was. The woman has a presentation style and way with words that leave me in the odd position of disagreeing with much of what she says, but finding the way she says them compelling.

She doesn't bang on about Farage 24/7. She's a very smart cookie and I'd love to see her as the next PM. She's earned it. She's wiping the floor with the lot of them. Nice to see some pragmatism instead of male egos waffling on making empty promises.
