Is this racism?

Basically I was at the pub in the pub and nobody was behind the bar.

I was first in line.

An elderly couple come and and then another man who slams his glass down.

When the bar lady asks "who is first"? I replied me.

The elderly couple say "we have been waiting ages".

And the man next says "I didn't see her".

I felt this was due to me being mixed race.
I felt quite intimidated.

I only popped in for a drink whilst OH has the kids.

I feel any shaken up as the only ethnic person in the place.

@MissBeans83 are you able to at least make an attempt to defend your position without being so nasty and spiteful? Everything you have posted on this thread has made me cringe. I am trying so hard to understand your position and where you are coming from but every time you talk about dumbing down or accuse other posters of being stupid for not agreeing with you, you lose credibility.

I mean, maybe you don’t mind that. Perhaps you are trying to be inflammatory. But I cannot reconcile the version of you that proclaims to understand all about DEI (one of the basic tenets of which is to treat all people respectfully) with the version of you that is being so nasty and disrespectful to everyone else.

Edited

@MissBeans83 posts are some of the very few posts that don't make me cringe tbh. What is cringeworthy is people telling the OP that she isn't experiencing what she is experiencing.

This answer depresses me . I really hope you are not in any position of power now or in the future.

Funny. I pray she is.

How am I racist now????

You hate anyone countering with rational explanations of what happened.
Older couple might have been waiting longer but OP didn’t see them, or they might have been entitled chancers who were local to that wetherspoons and thought they should be served first.
Poor bloke who slammed down his glass just having a bad day
Just because these two things happened and OP is mixed race doesn’t make it racist

Just because I point out other valid reasons for the behaviour of these Wetherspoons folk doesn’t make me racist

But I agree it’s a good way to shut down an argument

Or maybe what the OP experienced is, you know, what she SHE felt it was. This endless whataboutery is gaslighting in its finest form. And its shit. Really really shit.

Lndnmummy · Yesterday 17:25

TryNotToLaugh · Yesterday 15:39

Are you saying that people of colour never, ever exaggerate, misinterpret, misconstrue or lie about a situation when they claim racism?

I have never come across anyone who has, no. However, in a white supremacy society a victim pf colour has to be the PERFECT victim, and even then will get ripped to shreds.

It's whataboutary, Its racist.

To be honest I don’t think the OP has posted in good faith

Her example is so bizarre as to be laughable

She’s using a fake scenario instead of being open and just wanting a discussion as to whether the UK is a racist country. She lists all these countries which are oh so much better than the UK.

As a Brit albeit with foreign immigrant parents this makes me really sad. And cross.

This is disgraceful. You should be ashamed of yourself. Don't fool yourself that these people you think are your homies on this thread would rather not have you or your parents here either.

Lndnmummy · Yesterday 17:30

@MNHQ are you moderating the racist posts too? Or is it just the posts from those of us calling it out that gets deleted?

italianlondongirl · Yesterday 17:36

Lndnmummy · Yesterday 17:13

Yawn. Here we go. Who cares about what you can 'reconcile'. That sounds like a you problem.

The OP had an experience that made her feel intimidated. Now a long line of (white) people are telling her that what she is experiencing, isn't in fact what she is experiencing. The audacity.

What about the audacity of accusing people ( including the old couple in the pub) of being racist when, you know, maybe they actually weren’t?

You forgot the "white people are becoming the minority"

That one was the winner🙄

It was CCTV which made me doubt how genuine the op is. For all the racism they have apparently faced this is the incident they chose to post.

Obviously a few gullible mumsnutters are all over this.

TheGreatDownandOut · Yesterday 17:43

@Lndnmummy the posts that are being deleted contain personal attacks towards other posters. That’s why they were deleted.

TryNotToLaugh · Yesterday 17:47

MissBeans83 · Yesterday 17:01

The future? No that isn't what you said. You never said the future. Amusing watching you try to claw your way out of it when statistics are presented to you and you can't argue

Tip for you: Google comes in handy first in advance of racist, self proclaimed "facts".

You’ve literally already said that I’m talking about the future

We shall park that one up with your "white people will become the minority"

and you can check my posts if you don’t believe your own 😂

If white people are so powerful in the UK how come we have consistently for decades said we don’t want mass immigration but have had it nevertheless, for decades, to the extent we will soon be a minority?

Oh my word!

Can I suggest you read up about the murder of Henry Nowak then, and the actions of his murderer, if you’ve never come across that case?

Agree. Although if views like Beans are a result of the extensive EDI training she received, no wonder lots of us are experiencing issues.

OP has been led to believe that every negative interaction where people can see her face is racism and PP thinks we’re all racist.

The word itself is starting to sound odd as we’ve heard it so many times with such little meaning attached.

Gooseling · Yesterday 17:58

There a racist and xenophobic people in all parts of the world.

I’ve witnessed awful racist incidents in my little Northern ex-mining town. There’s no denying that the UK is experiencing more racial hate crimes due to what’s published in the media and idiots like Tommy Robinson/Katie Hopkins/Ryan Bridge etc with their constant online drivel.

However, in your particular circumstance in Spoons, no one can say if it was due to your race or not. I’m white, fair haired and I’ve been first or next at the bar and (usually) men have pushed in or elbowed me out of the way to be served first. It isn’t uncommon, sadly.

I will leave that one with you and people like you. I prefer to focus my time on the murder, abuse and lack of care to incidents relating to black boys and girls.

Funny how some people have selective outrage isn't it?

CornishDaughteroftheDawn · Yesterday 18:04

Lndnmummy · Yesterday 17:12

🙄

What’s the eye roll for?

Bean clearly is using a definition of racism that is different to the dictionary definition so I need to understand what I and the rest of the country are being accused of.

Surely to have a conversation, we need common definitions otherwise it just can’t work.

What’s your definition that a) makes sense and b) captures the actions or comments made by me, PPs on this thread also accused and the rest of the UK?

I’m off to the beach for a bit so I’ll catch up on your thoughts later.

BatchCookBabe · Yesterday 18:11

@CornishDaughteroftheDawn Have a nice evening at the beach! Grin

I will leave that one with you and people like you. I prefer to focus my time on the murder, abuse and lack of care to incidents relating to black boys and girls.

That’s fine. You clearly want to manage what information reaches you. Everyone else reading will know that, after fatally stabbing Henry Nowak, Vickrum Digwa lied to the police that Henry had racially abused him. As a result, Henry died in handcuffs, with the police ignoring his pleas for help, and treating him like a criminal.

So yes, sometimes people of colour do lie about having experienced a racist incident. And this can have serious consequences for white people, thankfully not often as serious as those Henry Nowak suffered. So we are allowed to have an opinion when we don’t believe an incident was racism.

BatchCookBabe · Yesterday 18:12

100% agree @TryNotToLaugh Funny how some people only want to hear one side of things. Wink the side that suits their agenda!

TryNotToLaugh · Yesterday 18:16

BatchCookBabe · Yesterday 18:04

Funny how some people have selective outrage isn't it?

I think some positions are very difficult to hold without being very selective about what information you allow to seep into your consciousness. Some people have to put a lot of effort into this. Calling people names and defining them as “undesirable demographics” or whatever the phrase was, if they start talking about things you don’t want to think about is one symptom.
