To be utterly pissed off and fed up with this weather….

I know there’s already been loads of threads about it, so apologies for being so original but OH MY GOD!

I’m not usually a particularly whiny person and I don’t ever remember being particularly troubled by hot ( or cold!) weather before but honestly, I feel like I’m going lose my mind!

Maybe it’s combined with hot flushes or something because no one else I know seems to be struggling that much.

I was fine at first; just thought it would only be a couple of days we’d have to suck it up. We
got the fans out, ate a criminal amount of ice lollies and did as little as possible. But now it feels like it’s been a couple of weeks of non stop over 28 degree heat every day where I live. It’s also unbearably humid. Trying to clean the house is grim. I feel like I’m swimming through treacle and my brain is mush. I can’t concentrate on work, I can’t sleep at night. I am constantly uncomfortable and the house has now heated up to such an extent that no room is even close to cool.

I realise this probably sounds ridiculous but I can’t really go out in this heat. I mean I can go to work (though my office has no air con and is also grim) and I can manage the school run and the supermarket etc, but I can’t go for a walk, or run about at the park with the kids. I definitely wouldn’t want go out in town or mooch about the shops, or eat out etc. I don’t want go in the garden because it’s so hot. The swimming pool is lovely but the changing rooms are beyond the pale. There’s no way I could cope with a day out at the zoo or a theme park with the kids.

I’ve never been so hot or so uncomfortable in my life! I have lots of loose, comfortable clothes, summer shoes etc but I still feel like I want to rip my skin off!

Is it just me? Weather forecast seems to be saying 10 more days of heat wave and I could cry!

Shit weather in Scotland as usual. Wouldn't know a heatwave if it bit us on the arse. Would love a bit of sun and warmth

Crystallllll · Yesterday 21:14

Completely agree, I’m in the south east as well. Life on hold is how it feels and not helping my mood today. I think I’ve reached boiling point, and I normally love the summer.

Dh is pals with the manager of iron maiden through work. Again, if only I’d known-I’ve never met anyone that actually likes them!

My husband has been a fan since he was 13...he seen them twice in the 90s then we went to the run for your lives tour when they were in glasgow, honestly they put on a great show, i am looking forward to seeing them again but if it wasnt for him id not have bothered 🤣. 150 a ticket for knebworth, plus hotel and train return tickets so not a cheap few days. But I am a good wife and I made it happen so he better be bloody good to me! 🤣

I should coco! £150!!!!!

weegiemum · Yesterday 21:19

We’re in the outer Hebrides and had the heating on for 3 hours today.

its going to be 19 degrees on Sunday!

FindingMeno · Yesterday 21:21

I'm on medication that stops me being able to regulate my temperature effectively, and I do a manual job.
I don't even bother with moisturiser or sun protection let alone make up as I sweat everything off instantly. I've given up on bras on the hotter days.
No ac at home or work.
I just get on with it and drink a lot.

Settlersa · Yesterday 21:21

I think I'm getting used to it, it was 30 today and it felt fine, going to Norfolk for a week tomorrow and glad the weather looks nice all week,

Yep!! Not cheap eh!! We paid 130 each ticket for the ovo in glasgow! 😬.

Bludfest was only 60 per ticket last year and 50 the year before!

Im dreading the journey down, never been to luton or knebworth so it will be taxis everywhere so we dont get lost 🤣.

Are you staying in Luton? It’s about £30 in a cab! You could get the airport bus to Stevenage station from whence I would imagine there will be a Shuttle bus? (If £30 is a bit steep both ways) . Make sure you pre book your cab back though as knebworth gigs are notoriously hard to get out of and taxis are fiendish to find otherwise.

I'm not far from you and I HAVE got my heating on! Sick of being cold when it's supposed to be summer. I mean, it's July FFS, and my feet are like blocks of ice!

We're the same! 20 plus miles from Edinburgh. It's cold and we've got extra layers on too

Lilyhatesjaz · Yesterday 21:30

I don't like it either. But actually shopping seems the best thing to do. A lot of the shops around town have aircon and asda actually felt cold, I have never shopped so slowly.

Things that help keep you looking and feeling a bit more put together in hot weather - (extensively tested this week just gone in the South of France and the week before that in London).

Wear Uniqlo Airsim underwear and cami tops under your normal clothes - keeps you cool and wick away sweat - the Japanese know how to deal with hot, humid weather.

Fuck make up - just wear a tinted SPF on top of your normal suncream - I like ELF.

Scrunch dry your hair and pin the top up in a half up do.

Always carry a large, light cotton scarf, you can wear it around your neck to keep your neck cool, use it to cover you back and ahoulders when it is very sunny, use it to wipe your face or wrap up your hair.

Freeze your water bottles the night before and take them with you.

Invest in a light, nicely scented body spray (I like the Korres range) and spray it on your pulse points when you feel hot and sweaty.

@Ginmonkeyagain

its really not that hot to forgo makeup and blow drying hair! My hair would look a right state if I blow dried it and put the top bit up 🤣

CoffeeAndCats3 · Yesterday 21:30

Its only going to get hotter year on year.

If you're really struggling, then I'd honestly be looking to move other to climate which is more agreeable for your body.

Musicaltheatremum · Yesterday 18:49

I'm in Edinburgh and freezing today. Needed extra fleeces and could even put heating on!

Same. Cold and grey. I’m tired of it.

30 sounds fine to me, had thought about costs each way..sounds better than the 50 each way i came up with so happy with that. Yes staying in Luton, couldn't get anywhere in knebworth for a decent price by the time i was booking. 4 nights. Is there any taxi apps? In milton keynes there is skyline cabs...anything similar? Means I can sort that on the Saturday morning and not have to worry about being stuck in the middle of nowhere wrapped in a picnic blanket for the night 🤣.

It’s crazy how much the weather differs in the UK.
Some with air con and some heating!

My friend is in the north and they had rain at the weekend. Here everything is arid and yellow looking

Cnidarian · Yesterday 21:35

feellikeanalien · Yesterday 19:38

16 and cloudy in Northumberland. We had about three or four days of hot weather and it's supposed to hit the heady heights of 24 on Wednesday.

We've had a lot of rain over the last week.

Edited

Yep, cardigans in the North East! I think people will start moving here because of the hot weather soon

MauveFatball · Yesterday 21:35

Since hitting the menopause I really can’t stand heat, I never sit in the sun these days - not even for 10 minutes. The recent hot weather has made me feel like I’m melting, not sweating but then again I haven’t the energy to do anything. It doesn’t help that 2 lots of medication I’m on causes excessive sweating in some people, which is probably why I’m feeling it so much. Definitely off any sort of food too, just drinking lots of fluid and the odd snack.

PinkCatCushion · Yesterday 21:41

It’s horrible. Everyone is sweaty and smells a bit. It’s too hot to function properly and there’s no way of cooling down.
Summers used to be 23-26, this new normal of repeating heatwaves is just depressing.

fashionqueen0123 · Yesterday 21:43

The great thing about it is that you can actually plan things. Usually we plan stuff in the summer and then it will rain or go cold. At the moment it’s perfect for planning outdoor stuff!

My worry is we’ll get to August and school hols and it will go cold and rain. We don’t really need really hot temps when they’re at school! so I hope it carries on for people holidaying at home. I just hope it doesn’t get too humid.

YourHangryLilacJoker · Yesterday 21:43

Cherrypie0210 · Yesterday 19:04

Yes! 9 months pregnant here and really pissed off with it too.

Just got my hospital bag half packed and all the baby bits washed/set up and the rage i felt while sweating buckets and feeling like a furnace is unreal, i could have cried.

I just hope we get a cooler day when i go into labour 🙏🏼

I feel you there...I'm in the same boat and due a c section next week potentially, I'm already dreading the temperature of the hospital which is like a furnace at the best of times!

TutTutTutSigh · Yesterday 21:43

I need to move south. It's mostly cloudy and 18° ish here. Not warm enough to go out in a t-shirt or enjoy the garden. Bloody pointless really.

I’m so confused - why doesn’t anyone have AC?
I’m Canadian and didn’t have full house AC until last year (had to update the whole furnace system to add it - $$) but it’s super common here and if you don’t have it you usually just use a window unit for the bedrooms. And we only have like 2 months of hot weather.
If the heat is so bad why aren’t people buying and installing window units? Legit asking, I’ve never been to the UK.

I can cope with the heat in London most of the time, but God the buses are just awful. I don't know how the drivers cope
