To be utterly pissed off and fed up with this weather….

I know there’s already been loads of threads about it, so apologies for being so original but OH MY GOD!

I’m not usually a particularly whiny person and I don’t ever remember being particularly troubled by hot ( or cold!) weather before but honestly, I feel like I’m going lose my mind!

Maybe it’s combined with hot flushes or something because no one else I know seems to be struggling that much.

I was fine at first; just thought it would only be a couple of days we’d have to suck it up. We
got the fans out, ate a criminal amount of ice lollies and did as little as possible. But now it feels like it’s been a couple of weeks of non stop over 28 degree heat every day where I live. It’s also unbearably humid. Trying to clean the house is grim. I feel like I’m swimming through treacle and my brain is mush. I can’t concentrate on work, I can’t sleep at night. I am constantly uncomfortable and the house has now heated up to such an extent that no room is even close to cool.

I realise this probably sounds ridiculous but I can’t really go out in this heat. I mean I can go to work (though my office has no air con and is also grim) and I can manage the school run and the supermarket etc, but I can’t go for a walk, or run about at the park with the kids. I definitely wouldn’t want go out in town or mooch about the shops, or eat out etc. I don’t want go in the garden because it’s so hot. The swimming pool is lovely but the changing rooms are beyond the pale. There’s no way I could cope with a day out at the zoo or a theme park with the kids.

I’ve never been so hot or so uncomfortable in my life! I have lots of loose, comfortable clothes, summer shoes etc but I still feel like I want to rip my skin off!

Is it just me? Weather forecast seems to be saying 10 more days of heat wave and I could cry!

I'm not far from you and I HAVE got my heating on! Sick of being cold when it's supposed to be summer. I mean, it's July FFS, and my feet are like blocks of ice!

And I'm actually jealous

It's easier to warm up than cool down!

Specialneedsnightmare · Yesterday 19:49

I'm in the south east and it's been windy. Send some heat over here please. Can't sit outside without being blown to bits.

I'm in Edinburgh and freezing today. Needed extra fleeces and could even put heating on!

Just showing off now 😂

RampantIvy · Yesterday 19:51

The heatwave isn't everywhere.

I must admit that when it was 32 degrees here even I was flagging, but we have had high teens ow twenties for several days and 21 degrees forecast for tomorrow, then a few days of high twenties before going back down again.

It has been extremely windy for several days as well.

Things that help keep you looking and feeling a bit more put together in hot weather - (extensively tested this week just gone in the South of France and the week before that in London).

Wear Uniqlo Airsim underwear and cami tops under your normal clothes - keeps you cool and wick away sweat - the Japanese know how to deal with hot, humid weather.

Fuck make up - just wear a tinted SPF on top of your normal suncream - I like ELF.

Scrunch dry your hair and pin the top up in a half up do.

Always carry a large, light cotton scarf, you can wear it around your neck to keep your neck cool, use it to cover you back and ahoulders when it is very sunny, use it to wipe your face or wrap up your hair.

Freeze your water bottles the night before and take them with you.

Invest in a light, nicely scented body spray (I like the Korres range) and spray it on your pulse points when you feel hot and sweaty.

Been 30 where I am today and I’ve been miserable can’t cope with any heat! I can’t even stand it at 18-19. I’m buying an air con unit as soon as I can find one in stock.

KettleHead87 · Yesterday 19:59

It’s the hormones. I was fine until peri got into full swing, now I think I’m dying in anything above 22..

It’s not that cold, I’ve been out in a tshirt! It’s cloudy but humid.

I’m in the South East and really sick of it. No end in sight. Currently in a very hot flat, and even with AC in lounge / kitchen (big room) it’s 28 degrees. Moving to the North West next month, and really can’t wait for generally cooler temps as it’s so much hotter down here. Yes it’s nice to get a bit of sun, and maybe i’ll appreciate it more when I leave this flat and into my new house with garden.

Gardeningsideeffects · Yesterday 20:08

I'll see your heatwave and raise you sleeping with the windows shut for the whole of July.

The local major dual carriageway is having works done and our house is on the diversion route.

We are in a tiny village and have the HGVs driving through all night. We live on a narrow part of the road and are just before the national speed limit sign. Which means they start speeding up just before our house, creating a wind tunnel that shakes our floors and doors and bed. We are an old thatched listed building.

Its absolutely miserable. I dread 9pm coming when the diversion starts.

This is for every day in July.

Normally the worst thing we have is tractors or cuckoos waking us up.

I actually don't mind the heat. But the lack of sleep and the all day dread is horrible.

EmeraldRoulette · Yesterday 20:11

@TheFairCat I can only assume that the people who enjoy it have cool homes and cool offices, rather than living in places that trap it.

I actually wasn't here for that really horrible heat wave but it's been really hot since I've got back.

I work at home and I went to the pub early because it has proper air-conditioning. When I left at 6:30 I was really surprised how normal it was outside - because living in an oven makes it all very confusing.

I have a really old portable Aircon unit I consider it a lifesaver but people on here are reporting that they bought one presumably this year last year and they are getting the room temps down a lot more than I am

I'm not sure if it's the age of the unit I've got or if it's the fact that My building was built with thermal bricks. However, other people in the building - who bought theirs last year - are having better results than I am.

So maybe I have to accept that mine is 15 years old and get a new one in winter

These flats are boiling from May to October even if there isn't a heat wave.

To me, this doesn't feel like a heat wave - it was 28° the day I left (was up north) and I think it was 34 or 35 when I got back. So to me, it just feels as if it's been consistently boiling.

I also can't wear sandals - if I go without socks I get a terrible eczema like rash. I actually can't wear trainer liners either. I have to have cotton socks, otherwise I'll come out in a rash.

I actually really hate winter! I can't manage extreme of temperature and I have SAD. But to me a normal summer is 20 to 25° - not at all what we've had this year. The last day it was 25° and sunny, I had a proper lovely long walk.

And it was about 25° when I was up north which was lovely.

It is absolutely bizarre for me to be wishing summer over and I've been genuinely confused that more people aren't feeling like this. I guess they acclimatise better than we do. But again, where you're having to live and work is a very big factor. Probably the biggest, because in reality workplace or home is where we spend most of our time.

I'm not sweaty person, so I have no problem wearing make-up and I probably look normal (apart from hayfever puffiness) but I feel very uncomfortable.

i'm very thankful that I'm spare public transport for the next couple of weeks. If it carries on though that's going to be an issue.

I run cold by the way - and I'm finding it too much

Wishihadanalgorithm · Yesterday 20:11

In the midlands and the humidity and heat is grim.

I'm in peri and my core temperature seems to run hot anyway. With this added heat, I’m melting. I have no desire to do anything and the smallest task feels like a massive chore.

I keep looking at the south west and coastal towns - they seems to be significantly cooler than here!

happidayss · Yesterday 20:13

I struggle to tolerate the heat. I’m definitely suffering today. It’s horribly hot in London but not as humid as a couple of weeks ago at least.

BurnoutBee · Yesterday 20:18

I feel similar in that I’m doing what needs to be done. School run, work, shopping but walks, days out are a no no. Going for a wild lake swim on Friday though and I can’t wait
for that ☀️.

nogainjustpain · Yesterday 20:18

I’m struggling too, I think peri is not helping! It’s just rubbish here in the NW, currently is about 25 with thick grey cloud most of the day and a really oppressive feeling. If it was clear and sunny I’d feel like I was getting a bit more of a summer but the gloom combined with heat is an awful combo.

walkingmyway · Yesterday 20:19

Nangula · Yesterday 18:58

Obviously, YANBU if you hate it. Loads of people do.

I spent my early childhood in Zambia and bloody love it. African childhoods make you solar charged, I think. And feel I’m getting a proper solar charge in the UK for once (also feel a bit guilty about loving it re. climate change.)

My teens haven’t whinged about the heat once, dogs bask on the tiled kitchen floor, I’m barefoot and braless all the time- like my mum c.1984. I especially love being able to eat outside three meals a day, getting in or on the water and playing sunny tennis matches, London in the sunshine is wonderful! Also quite enjoying the Zoom calls to my sister in grey old Melbourne. We are off to the Alps for hiking, swimming, eating etc. for a month next week and I can’t bloody wait (the teens and dogs will barely leave the lake I suspect )

I mean that’s probably lovely but if you’re having to work somewhere with a uniform, no AC, and can’t keep dipping yourself in water/do a physical job and then come home to a boiling hot house it’s a bit different than wandering about barefoot

Aparrently the Summer of '76 was far worse. Thats why the boomer generation did nothing about climate change for 50 years.
Great job guys!

I've been loving the heat in London.

In the south east, it’s 31 degrees today, tomorrow and Wednesday and not predicted to drop below 28 for the next 11 days. I seem to be doing the opposite of acclimatising and feel worse every day. I can’t really eat and feel almost like I’m ill.

Ive developed a bilateral ear infection due to the heat

Say hello climate change! I hate it too - this is not what I signed up for when I moved to the UK! 22 is my sweet spot. Damm it’s hotter than southern Spain right now!
