@TheFairCat I can only assume that the people who enjoy it have cool homes and cool offices, rather than living in places that trap it.
I actually wasn't here for that really horrible heat wave but it's been really hot since I've got back.
I work at home and I went to the pub early because it has proper air-conditioning. When I left at 6:30 I was really surprised how normal it was outside - because living in an oven makes it all very confusing.
I have a really old portable Aircon unit I consider it a lifesaver but people on here are reporting that they bought one presumably this year last year and they are getting the room temps down a lot more than I am
I'm not sure if it's the age of the unit I've got or if it's the fact that My building was built with thermal bricks. However, other people in the building - who bought theirs last year - are having better results than I am.
So maybe I have to accept that mine is 15 years old and get a new one in winter
These flats are boiling from May to October even if there isn't a heat wave.
To me, this doesn't feel like a heat wave - it was 28° the day I left (was up north) and I think it was 34 or 35 when I got back. So to me, it just feels as if it's been consistently boiling.
I also can't wear sandals - if I go without socks I get a terrible eczema like rash. I actually can't wear trainer liners either. I have to have cotton socks, otherwise I'll come out in a rash.
I actually really hate winter! I can't manage extreme of temperature and I have SAD. But to me a normal summer is 20 to 25° - not at all what we've had this year. The last day it was 25° and sunny, I had a proper lovely long walk.
And it was about 25° when I was up north which was lovely.
It is absolutely bizarre for me to be wishing summer over and I've been genuinely confused that more people aren't feeling like this. I guess they acclimatise better than we do. But again, where you're having to live and work is a very big factor. Probably the biggest, because in reality workplace or home is where we spend most of our time.
I'm not sweaty person, so I have no problem wearing make-up and I probably look normal (apart from hayfever puffiness) but I feel very uncomfortable.
i'm very thankful that I'm spare public transport for the next couple of weeks. If it carries on though that's going to be an issue.
I run cold by the way - and I'm finding it too much
