Decoy Wedding?!

Apologies I haven't gone through any individual topic to see if there are threads.

But with all the shit in the world going on, and true escapism is anyone else thoroughly excited about the "potential" TS/TK nuptials?

I find I'm far too invested! Pathetic to be so interested? Very possibly but I don't care!

Again apologies if there's already something going... If there is can someone share!

I have said that should any man over a certain age express the same level of idolation towards her I would feel exactly the same about him.

And I really, really would. So I strongly refute any accusations of misogyny.

And I can be equally scathing about Ed Sheeran, too. And Take That who now look ridiculous as a 'boy band' in middle age. And that boring George Ezra.

This is the Internet. Not everybody is going to agree.

As to not knowing anything about her, well unless you personally know her, you don't know her either, so I don't know what your point is.

So logically, assuming you don't know her either, our views have equal validity.

I’m not the one insulting her am I?
You must know that the insults you are using are generally used towards women and not men. You saying that you use them towards male artists too doesn’t change that. And do you really comment on what make artists are wearing? Again, unless you’ve been living under rock you must know that women are routinely subjected to judgement in this way. You’re just contributing to it whether that’s your intention or not (hence the internalised misogyny)

I really don’t understand your obsession with age. Why does that even matter? Music is music, you either like it or you don’t. Age is irrelevant.
My husband is 54 and loves her music. We’ve had many a great night dancing and singing to TS and other similar music.

It's objectively false that all or even most of her songs are about ex relationships. She has entire albums which don't feature any songs about ex relationships.

I always laugh when I see this criticism used towards her. It just shows me they’re talking bollocks!

Mickey you are coming off as slightly over invested. This is what gives Swifties a bit of a rep.

Some of us just dont really care.

Okay. You do you.

People don’t have to engage with me 🤷‍♀️

QuintadosMalvados · 04/07/2026 18:47

Exactly. I don't mind being accused of musical snobbery that's fair enough (though so what? It's just a difference of opinion) but if a man over a certain age started going on about how great Taylor Swift is I'd feel exactly the same about him. Like wtf, dude.

So no not misogyny. At all. People just toss the misogyny word about to shut others down - in my opinion of course.

Feminism is really odd these days.
Sure she is admirable for her business acumen. Who could deny it? I certainly won't.

But as far as I can see her songs are mostly about milking ex relationships while wearing very little for the male gaze.

That's not my version of feminism.

So yeah she's really, really good at making money but that's not why people view her as being so great so I'm just wondering what else there actually is to admire.

Then clearly you've not listened to much of her music.
Which is obviously your prerogative. But don't expect to not be challenged by people who have when you come out with very worn out criticisms of her

BusyExpert · 04/07/2026 20:32

Logic clearly isn’t your strong point is it? You have to read a post to know it is completely asinine
are you a teenager?.

I don’t think that I have ever met an adult woman who is interested in Taylor Swift…..
🤗

BusyExpert · 04/07/2026 20:50

I have 2 granddaughters 8 and 5. I have never heard either mention any singer they do like to play dress up though but it’s an angel a witch, or the Princess in Frozen
Everytime I hear stuff like this I am grateful that my son married an incredibly sensible woman

Are you suggesting that an adult Taylor Swift fan can’t also be a sensible woman?

BusyExpert · 04/07/2026 20:57

Yes and also boring
mind you it has raised an interesting interaction with people who also find it weird for an adult to be so invested in a pop singer that she doesn’t know.

mtobrokeme · 04/07/2026 21:05

Anarchy99 · 04/07/2026 12:34

At the age of, what, 5???

It’s not about being fun sponges. Five year olds being taught in school about celeb culture is odd, no?

It’s not about ‘celeb culture’ is it? You’re purposely over-analysing a teacher that has incorporated a very popular pop star among children to keep the lesson relevant and interesting to children. There really is nothing more to it than that. As has been the case for decades small children like pop stars. Those little girls murdered in Southport? At a Taylor Swift themed dance class. If you can’t see that kids enjoy it and understand why a phonics lesson incorporating it may have generated interest then you are a fun sponge.

That’s a very narrow minded attitude. Most people are multi faceted and have a range of interests. Enjoying pop music doesn’t make you boring or mean you’re not sensible - although interestingly sensible and boring are often used together rather than opposite descriptions.

I like pop music in general and TS falls into that category. I wouldn’t describe myself as a hardcore swiftie or anything. I’m interested in the wedding because I like weddings and celebrations. I’ve also been to MSG a few times so I’m interested in how they transformed it into a wedding venue.
I have other interests- I read extensively, travel loads, I have a PhD and I’m a university professor. I also happen to like pop music and TS. Not sure why that’s the part of my personality that makes me boring!

Triskellion75 · 04/07/2026 21:06

This is why I love this girl.

What a shame that your granddaughters are too "sensible" to enjoy music. My daughter loves princesses and fairies and witches but also enjoys singers and musicians of many genres. She also loves to sing, dance and perform. I hope she doesn't encounter children who have been taught that loving to sing doesn't make her boring or immature, and if she does, she's able to clearly see that it's that kind of narrow mindedness that is really what makes someone boring and immature.

Personally I'd prefer my grandchildren to be singing about real life female empowerment and seeing women taking control of their careers and actively supporting communities and food banks and frankly working bloody hard to get where they want to be and breaking glass ceilings.

But if you think that dressing up as a cartoon princes is more "sensible" than that, then I guess we have very different opinions of what we want our grandchildren to aspire to.

I forgot about that. The $1 was a very stylish and dignified way to make a point.

I don't consider myself a Swifty. TBH I didn't even realise she was getting married until yesterday but I like much of her music and I do think she has done some really great stuff and I do admire her work ethic amd social responsibility.

Well it is celeb culture.

What is the relevance to the lives and education of these children outside of that? There may be a few who like singing and dancing to her music but even then, how is her wedding relevant?

Really? Bloody RATS! You never know what's real these days.

Not impressed by Taylor withholding all photos of her in her dress. Her fans are interested and they're the ones who made her. She could have released just one.

She's possibly sold rights to a Hello or sonething.

She could be enjoying her wedding day.

She might want to keep sonething private. I'd be disappointed if she doesn't share one because I love looking at celebrity wedding dresses (and secretly judging them) but she doesn't owe anyone anything.
