Decoy Wedding?!

Apologies I haven't gone through any individual topic to see if there are threads.

But with all the shit in the world going on, and true escapism is anyone else thoroughly excited about the "potential" TS/TK nuptials?

I find I'm far too invested! Pathetic to be so interested? Very possibly but I don't care!

Again apologies if there's already something going... If there is can someone share!

You just sound a bit sad to be honest. Love or hate her she is historically significant. Sorry you can't cope with that.

She is no more significant than any other popular pop star.

Her wedding - not remotely significant

Yet here you are, spending your weekend commenting on a wedding and a person who is apparently completely insignificant to you.

I totally agree. While I am neutral about her (TS) she is like a weird non-sexual crush for older women.
I mean nobody could deny she has business sense and that's to be praised but so do a lot of famous women.
Where's the admiration for them?

The rest is vacuous pop songs about exes which she seems to perform half-naked.

Never mind I suppose this whole spectacle will be good for the inevitable divorce album.
Which I won't be buying as I'm not 12.

FloodlightsOnTheSquare · 04/07/2026 15:18

Vacuous = a criticism never ever levelled at a man.

Do you feel better having posted this?

I have to wonder what makes an adult comment on something that doesn’t interest them just to have a sly dig at people who are interested in that topic. It’s just nasty.

What happened to scrolling on by and spending time on your actual interests?

Anarchy99 · 04/07/2026 15:22

RocksByThePool · 04/07/2026 13:04

There were some little girls who went to a Taylor Swift dance party. We all know what happened there. It is not 'vacuous celebrity culture' it is music/dancing/time with friends. I agree there is a balance to get right with age and how it is explored/taught - like Barbie, influencers, smartphones, anything else that carries loyalty as a brand.

Of course they will know about her and want to dance to her songs like I did to the Spice Girls. I remember the interest when it was David and Victoria.

I suppose it’s never too early to influence small children. I think it’s a little depressing that celeb culture is so invasive now.

I remember liking pop music but not being invested in the actual stars at that age.

But being AUDHD (undiagnosed til middle age) I would have been mightily pissed off at the assumption that everyone was interested in something like this.

Vacuous = a criticism never ever levelled at a man.

I direct the word vacuous towards music by male pop stars, too.

Take That- vacuous.
George Ezra - vacuous.
Ed Sheeran - vacuous.

None of them are King Crimson.

It’s also good to teach children that the world doesn’t revolve around them. A lesson based on something that isn’t specifically link to your interests won’t kill you.

How ignorant and arrogant do you have to be to post that someone with a catalogue of close to 300 songs on topics as wide ranging as cancer, miscarriage, Shakespeare, mental health and ancient mythology only writes songs about their exes? Maybe for your next pompous soliloquy you can fill us all on on a book you've never bothered to read.

Do you criticise other women for being a fan on any of these people?
Do you comment on the fact that they’ve written/performed songs about relationships?
Do you comment on what they wear?

ImImmortalNowBabyDoll · 04/07/2026 15:32

And btw, this wedding references "The Lucky One" which is about the fickle nature of fame, and grappling with the choice to embrace stardom, knowing the endless criticism that will come with it and the inevitable discarding for younger stars as you age, or bowing out of public life and retreating.

The Lucky One chose the rose garden over Madison Square. Taylor got engaged in the rose garden and married in Madison Square- she can have both. And boring, mediocre people with nothing better to do will hate her for it.

I am auadhd and I remember obsessions over boybands in the 1990s. I remember the reaction when Take That split. I was in primary school and I remember the pencil cases and lunch boxes etc. I wasn't into them particularly myself, but I remember it, and had interests elsewhere.

There was also of course Beatlemania and other examples around the world. My friend is obsessed with BTS and Korean pop music, which goes over my head personally, but small children are going to interact with what is mainstream around them and the market is there. I remember a My Little Pony movie where cynically they swapped one castle for another castle in the film, and of course it was because new merchandise was coming out. There have been versions of this around before.

That's all in your head.
Fwiw there's a ton of female singer songwriters I love:
Kate Bush
Ann and Nancy Wilson
Chrissie Hynde
to name but a few.

I await, with bated breath, your jumping off point for a phonics lesson, since you seem to believe it would need to be of universal interest in and of itself.

You ran a lesson based around some pointless celeb wedding? Bet the parents loved that. I guess it’s never too early to introduce small children to inane celebs and their lives

My daughter’s Nat 5 English exam had a piece about TS in it. The kids loved it.

Liking female singers doesn’t stop you from making misogynistic comments.

While I am neutral about her (TS) she is like a weird non-sexual crush for older women.

This comment is misogynistic. Why are you bothered why ‘older women’ might like TS? Why mention age at all?

The rest is vacuous pop songs about exes which she seems to perform half-naked.

Do you criticise male singers for writing songs about relationships? Or on what they’re wearing?

Never mind I suppose this whole spectacle will be good for the inevitable divorce album.
Which I won't be buying as I'm not 12.

This is just bitter and pathetic.

MickyMoonshine · 04/07/2026 15:47

And I’m calling it pathetic @QuintadosMalvados because you’ve decided to comment on a post about a person you don’t particularly like just to have a dig at people who do.
Why a grown woman would think that’s acceptable behaviour is beyond me.

It seems to me that she is a no - sexual girl crush for women who are past 40.
It's just an observation.

Yes, yes I do. I can't stand it when men write about relationships, too.
This is why favourite genre is prog rock.

I don't really care if you think it's bitter and pathetic.
Again she's a well known history about writing about her exes so this is not actually a controversial thing to say.

Why you think it's acceptable to browbeat another woman for what are just at the end of the day reasonable observations after all is also beyond me, too.

So let's leave it there.

BoredZelda · 04/07/2026 15:53

I am not a TS fan, her music isn’t my taste but went to her concert and really enjoyed it. She seems like a great person and I’m glad her and her husband had the wedding they wanted.

Calling her inane is way off the mark. Her Eras tour brought £1bn into the U.K. economy. 1,400 food banks benefitted from donations from her. You can hate her music, you can even hate her personality, but you can’t deny what she has done.

There is a huge difference between having a preference and going out of your way to belittle people for having a different preference to you.
That’s what your post attempted to do. It was a long winded way of saying your music tastes are superior to those who are TS fans.

It’s easy to just say that you don’t like a particular genre or artist. Even easier to not bother commenting at all on things that don’t interest you.
