Sandals and crusty feet at work

AIBU to think that walking sandals and flip flops are not professional workwear? Yes, it’s been ridiculously hot, but I don’t want to see brittle yellow toenails, crusty dry skin and, in one case, flakes and chunks of skin hanging off the manky trotters of my colleagues 🤮 At the very least, if we are going to be subjected to your toe cleavage, have a pedicure first. And don’t get me started on the smelly ones!

Agree.

I don't like looking at my own feet if they're not in nice condition, never mind other people's

Sirzy · Yesterday 20:41

just don’t look at their feet if you find them that offensive?

I don’t normally wear open toes to work but last week I did because I didn’t want sweaty feet all day!

Offherrockingchair · Yesterday 21:14

It’s not like I go round deliberately looking - you just can’t help seeing what people are wearing, and when there’s rough skin and yellowing bits on display, yuck!

I wear sandals - I also make sure I do a proper foot tidy up and put masses of foot cream on weakly I have no dry feet - I agree dry cracked heels looks awful -no excuse I use a sholl dry skin roller

FourEyesGood · Yesterday 21:17

I couldn’t care less as long as they don’t smell. They’re just feet.

SingtotheCat · Yesterday 21:17

Yeah, there has to be a minimum degree of professionalism in an office.
I am desperately looking for some smart,
closed-toe sandals. I do use a foot file, so no crispy heal skin.

Thirteenblackcats · Yesterday 21:18

When it’s weather like this my sandals come out. ( not walking sandals though)

in the hot weather I either wear sandals, sliders or smart trainers for work. Other shoes not comfortable for me

Fidgety31 · Yesterday 21:19

It used to be a dress code in my NHS job not to wear open footwear …. But no one abides by that anymore .
same with general style of dress tbh .

Gwenhwyfar · Yesterday 21:21

Fuck off. If it's extremely hot my ugly feet will be out.
My face is ugly too, but I'm not going to wear a paper bag over it.

OMG another thing for women to torture themselves about
grey hair
upper arms
shoulders
armpits
hair anywhere other than on the head
faces that are as nature intended
bodies that are too fat/too thin/too muscular/not muscular enough
teeth a shade away from brilliant white
skin more aged than a 16 year olds

are the men worrying about this or is it sufficient for them to be clean and tidy?
their clothing, comfortable and unremarkable?

we do not have to collude in our own oppression! be grateful if you have a body that works and is pain free! we are not put on this earth to measure up to some arbitrary and oppressive set of rules for our appearance!

RandomUsernameHere · Yesterday 21:33

YANBU wearing sandals to work is completely inappropriate.

Err - not sure why you assumed I work with women? The worst contenders last week were far and away men, actually!

OP didn’t specifically mention women.

No it's not if you have a casual dress code and it's over 30 degrees.

cluckinell2 · Yesterday 21:38

Don’t look then. You sound like the type of person I’d hate to work with. Not everyone has time for fucking weekly pedicures.

I’ve been wearing these to work this week as I don’t think toes should be seen in the office

I'm with you @Offherrockingchair Thongs in the workplace aren't on and poorly maintained feet in sandals is nauseating, regardless of gender. It doesn't take much to trim to nails and buff rough skin.

Sandals can be smart

not sure why you think they’re inappropriate

Offherrockingchair · Yesterday 21:57

@1985goingbackagain - I like those! Might have to get a pair. Definitely with you on the closed toe!

Couldn’t you just wear normal shoes or closed toe options, though? Why inflict your fugly feet on others? I wouldn’t walk around with hands peeling, dry bits of skin flaking off all over the place, so why would it be any different for feet?

I semi agree with you but to be fair I haven't seen any men at work wearing sandals. Either way I don't want to see sweaty, crusty feet in the workplace and definitely don't want to be sat next to smelly ones! 🤢

I can’t wear this style of shoe especially in summer. The rubbing and blisters isn’t worth it.

I do look after my feet though and wear sandals to work with no issue from anyone

socks1107 · Yesterday 22:04

I’ve worn my sandals all week. Feet are tidy and toes painted.

I find all of this body fascism really disturbing.

Maybe they find your face or hands revolting. Maybe they hate your haircut or your dry lips.

The state of someone else's feet is really none of your business.
