Sandals and crusty feet at work

AIBU to think that walking sandals and flip flops are not professional workwear? Yes, it’s been ridiculously hot, but I don’t want to see brittle yellow toenails, crusty dry skin and, in one case, flakes and chunks of skin hanging off the manky trotters of my colleagues 🤮 At the very least, if we are going to be subjected to your toe cleavage, have a pedicure first. And don’t get me started on the smelly ones!

What is it with the ingenuous "don't look then" posts on threads like this?

It is unavoidable seeing people in any sort of clothes or footwear that stand out from the norm, or even those that don't. We can't go around with our eyes closed all the time.

It's such a silly comment.

But sandals don’t stand out from the norm!

hairbearbunches · Today 07:29

Well, @Offherrockingchair from the pushback you've had here, I'd be tempted to assume that far from being the place where all the people have naice, looked after feet and tootsies (and no, that doesn't mean a professional pedicure every week!), MN is a hotbed of women with hobbit feet! Who knew!😀

I'm with you. I once worked with a woman who had a resolving blister on the sole of her foot that covered the entire ball of her foot. A load of skin just hanging off. Once I'd noticed it, I couldn't stop noticing it and it made me feel queasy all day.

Stompythedinosaur · Today 07:38

Smelly feet and bits flaking off are anti-social. Feet that look like feet? I can't get me knickers in a twist about it. Dried skin or discoloured nails don't effect you in the least.

PrizedPickledPopcorn · Today 07:51

Unfortunately the dry skin on my feet and hands is more persistent than I am. I don’t know if it’s some kind of eczema. At this time of year my hands and feet just seem to peel. I can be decent in the morning and peeling in the afternoon.

Everyone’s body is different, some of us are just unfortunate. Do you remember how bad people’s dandruff could be, before head and shoulders was everywhere?

It would be great if you worked as hard at shedding judgmental attitudes as you work at looking after your feet.

ForeverDelayedEpiphany · Today 07:52

One of my lovely friends has a bit of dry skin on her feet, which i noticed the other day when we were out. But I didn't think "Ooh that's not nice!", or wonder why she had her feet out in gasps hot weather wearing sandals.

I just thought, oh she probably needs a bit of extra moisturiser, and she's a busy mum so her feet probably aren't a huge priority. 😳🤔😀

Life's too short to sit staring at feet!😅

imonlyherecosimbored · Today 07:55

I know what you mean, especially when someone's toenails look like pork scratchings 🤢

BlackRowan · Today 08:05

I honestly don’t see a scenario where you are looking at co-workers feet so closely. You must have some issues or phobias if it bothers you so much.
your eyes are much higher than feet. Don’t stare at people’s feet, look them in the eyes, and you’ll be fine.

i can’t even recall what shoes my colleagues are wearing (I presume they have shoes and feet lol). Focus on your WORK

NoWordForFluffy · Today 08:22

DappledThings · Yesterday 22:12

I wear sandals everywhere when it's hot. I have no idea if my feet are considered acceptable in OP's eyes. I have also never once noticed any footwear on my colleagues and managed to take not a blind bit of notice of any of their feet. Not looking is really very easy.

I agree. I don't look at people's feet in general. There's a very easy solution for the OP...just stop looking!

Melarus · Today 08:32

MeridaBrave · Today 07:00

It’s a no to sandals at all regardless of what your feet are like. Clean white trainers are ok in less formal settings, sandals are not ok.

It's a no to that, MeridaBrave.

Fatmanscoop · Today 08:33

There are so many pearl clutchers on here, you’re really making me laugh

Sandals are not bikinis, feet are not boobs or bum

Sandais are a sensible, non offensive item of clothing when practically they allow.

some of you need to get a grip

DoggerelBank · Today 08:39

Offherrockingchair · Yesterday 21:59

Couldn’t you just wear normal shoes or closed toe options, though? Why inflict your fugly feet on others? I wouldn’t walk around with hands peeling, dry bits of skin flaking off all over the place, so why would it be any different for feet?

Seriously? So if your hands were peeling (mine get terrible in hot weather, no amount of cream helps), what would you do? Take sick leave? Annual leave? Wear gloves at all times? Resign and become a recluse? This thread is getting pretty nasty. What about zits? They're not all that nice to look at either. Should teenagers be shut in their bedrooms until their skin grows up? How very dare their inflict their disgustingness on others.

OMG another thing for women to torture themselves about
grey hair
upper arms
shoulders
armpits
hair anywhere other than on the head
faces that are as nature intended
bodies that are too fat/too thin/too muscular/not muscular enough
teeth a shade away from brilliant white
skin more aged than a 16 year olds

are the men worrying about this or is it sufficient for them to be clean and tidy?
their clothing, comfortable and unremarkable?

we do not have to collude in our own oppression! be grateful if you have a body that works and is pain free! we are not put on this earth to measure up to some arbitrary and oppressive set of rules for our appearance!

This OP.

Oh god, Hard Agree op. Can’t bear it, lol. Put your trotters away if you can’t look after them (men and women!)

They are not trotters. We are not pigs.

I agree OP. It’s gross. I don’t want to see people’s horrible toes and smelly feet (and they do smell but their owners are nose blind to their own feet).
I work in a school and open toes are not safe: children always swing on their chairs and if they put the chair down on your foot (happened to me many a time in our overcrowded classroom ), you are going to have a serious bruise or even broken skin if your foot isn’t protected by a closed shoe.
I hate it if people come round to my house, take off their shoes and leave sweaty footprints across my wooden floor. Their feet always smell. Plus they sit there and for some reason always rub their yucky feet together.

What do you think expect people to wear on their feet if they visit then? I assume you are a shoes off house so do you want manky socks on your floors instead?

Why should people do that? I don’t go round noticing and judging what others wear - give it a try, it’s terribly liberating.

@PinkCatCushion Sounds like you don’t t manage classroom behaviour very effectively if kids are constantly swinging on chairs. Do better

Sandals don't stand out from the norm and people's feet are hardly ever in my eyeline. I would have to specifically go looking at them to notice them.

cluckinell2 · Yesterday 21:38

Don’t look then. You sound like the type of person I’d hate to work with. Not everyone has time for fucking weekly pedicures.

You don’t need a weekly pedicure to look after your feet. I used to have a monthly one. But now do my feet myself.

We all have different levels of personal care. To some these things matter to others they don’t. We just have to look around us.

I like you @Offherrockingchair am in the latter camp.

MNLurker1345 · Today 09:17

I would literally pass out if I saw this. I have a massive phobia of feet and would throw up if I saw that.

Even reading this has made me wash my hands 3 times 🤣

Blackcatahotcat · Today 09:19

Oh jeez we had some corkers in my last office. Hard skin on heels that can NEVER have been filed and another person had unpainted toenails that looked like whelks. Utterly repulsive.

You would pass out if you saw someone in sandals? Do you never leave your house in summer?

Metalmotha · Today 09:20

Why? I’m subjected to having to look at people with face full of filler with troweled on make up wearing clothes made by modern day slaves seemingly designed to have the worst possible environmental impact every day of the year
