Sandals and crusty feet at work

AIBU to think that walking sandals and flip flops are not professional workwear? Yes, it’s been ridiculously hot, but I don’t want to see brittle yellow toenails, crusty dry skin and, in one case, flakes and chunks of skin hanging off the manky trotters of my colleagues 🤮 At the very least, if we are going to be subjected to your toe cleavage, have a pedicure first. And don’t get me started on the smelly ones!

There are so many pearl clutchers on here, you’re really making me laugh

Sandals are not bikinis, feet are not boobs or bum

Sandais are a sensible, non offensive item of clothing when practically they allow.

some of you need to get a grip

To be fair, some of what you see if repulsive.

CluelessAboutBiology · Today 09:21

Thankfully I, and my colleagues, all have to wear safety boots so no feet on display

Fuck off. If it's extremely hot my ugly feet will be out.
My face is ugly too, but I'm not going to wear a paper bag over it.

This, tbh.

I can't say I give people's foot beauty any thought. They are feet, they do their job. Even well looked after feet are not attractive imo.

I don't see much difference between saying you don't want to see someone's ungroomed feet to saying you don't want to see an ugly face without makeup. What does it matter if someone has yellow toenails?

It’s not like I go round deliberately looking - you just can’t help seeing what people are wearing, and when there’s rough skin and yellowing bits on display, yuck!

It's quite common for women to wear sandals to work here and the only thing I have ever noticed is if they have their nails painted, I don't see anything else. You really would have to take a good look to notice all the things you are, be honest you just want to show off your judgemental side, which is actually less attractive than the feet you so despise.

Err - not sure why you assumed I work with women? The worst contenders last week were far and away men, actually!

The thing is though men (in general) DGAF what you think about their feet.

BlackCat14 · Today 09:41

I wear sandals at work, but my feet are lovely and smooth.

In hot weather, I’d hate to shove my feet into proper shoes, I want them to be aired! I’d hate to have sandals banned. If others want to do the same, but their feet are a bit grim, I just wouldn’t look.

Mygardenshedisfallingdown · Today 09:41

tillyandmilly · Yesterday 21:16

I wear sandals - I also make sure I do a proper foot tidy up and put masses of foot cream on weakly I have no dry feet - I agree dry cracked heels looks awful -no excuse I use a sholl dry skin roller

Same here, it's not difficult.
I don't look at other peoples feet don't want or need to but then I'm not judgy about others because I just don't care what they are doing or wearing/ not wearing.

Sorry, no, that really does not constitute "part of the job."

The only job where "having your feet looked at" is part of the job is "foot model."

Dance teachers and teachers of many other sports (gymnastics? Diving? Swimming? Martial arts?) often have to look at feet. In my experience dancers tend to have awful feet because they get pounded 😂

Mygardenshedisfallingdown · Today 09:52

What do you think expect people to wear on their feet if they visit then? I assume you are a shoes off house so do you want manky socks on your floors instead?

Do you want dog shit and piss on yours? Because I certainly don't. Like it or not where ever you walk in public shoes pick up billions of bacteria and shit,
In summer I wear sandels but when I get home wash my feet because they are often a bit grubby from dust and outside grot. I wear flip flops at home and even they get a bit grubby and need a fortnightly soapy wash although I never wear them outside. Hate to think outdoor shoes on carpets are leaving behind.
Still each to their own.

RanchRat · Today 09:52

The are fucking feet, to be walked with, to get from one place to another.

ilovepuppies2019 · Today 09:56

You're terribly judgemental and outright rude. Many of those yellow spots and bits of dry skin will be medical conditions. No, I don't think people should hide themselves away so you don't have to look at them - let alone people with a medical condition. Many people have acne as well, would you tell them to wear a bag over their head because you find their face disgusting? Dry hands and eczema are common all year so yes, some people do go around with those conditions.

And so? Should only the young and beautiful be seen in public. No visible deformation, or disabilities, or imperfections due to age?

Seaitoverthere · Today 10:03

I have nail psoriasis and a hammer toe but absolutely no way will I stop wearing sandals when it’s really hot as some people can’t cope with the sight of a foot. Frankly at this point I’m just delighted that biologic medication has meant I can walk more easily and anyone flapping about feet can do one in my opinion but each to their own.

It’s about self care. No disabilities regarding who I’m using as examples. They just couldn’t be bothered

Oh and to add; these people didn’t shower or wash their hair all year round so the minging feet were standard.

I worked with these people for 16 years. You’ll have to take my word for it.

What does your hr policy say about self care? Are the people you're talking about compliant?

TheCurious0range · Today 10:13

People are weird about feet. They're just feet. As long as they are clean I don't see a problem. I quite often wear leather sandals to work in summer. I use an electric foot file once a week and a good urea foot cream every night. It takes two minutes before bed.

Ceramiq · Today 10:15

People's standards of foot care are often truly awful. Feet need as much regular care as teeth. Every single day feet need to be thoroughly washed with a specific product, exfoliated, moisturized (nails and skin require different products) and exercised, which includes properly fitting shoes so that toes do the work.

I have never exfoliated or mosturised my feet. I've barely moisturised any par tof my body bar a bit of handcream in winter if they get sore.

Those things are absolutely optional and in no way indicative of of a lack of self-care or cleanliness.

PascalPony · Today 10:17

Why don’t you try focusing on the positive aspects of people’s characters instead of fixating on the appearance of random body parts?

I’m not arguing with you. I’ve contributed to the thread with my observations. The feet were disgusting. Their overall hygiene was disgusting. You’re just nit-picking to score points.

AuntCatherine · Today 10:18

Offherrockingchair · Yesterday 21:59

Couldn’t you just wear normal shoes or closed toe options, though? Why inflict your fugly feet on others? I wouldn’t walk around with hands peeling, dry bits of skin flaking off all over the place, so why would it be any different for feet?

You’d hate me OP. Psoriasis all over my arms, dry flaking skin all over the place. Arms uncovered in the hot weather. How awful.

WeddingInvitation · Today 10:19

Nope I agree with you. No manky feet in the workplace. I'm now inspecting mine as I wore sandals to work.....
