AiBU to be angry with husband for slow roasting pork during heatwave?

I do my best to keep the house cool when it gets really hot. I do not cope well with heat. I make an effort to draw curtains, keep windows closed etc.

Come down during my lunch break and the formerly cool kitchen is now a sauna. Of all days dh has decided today is the day to use up the frozen pork for pulled pork sandwiches (dinner).

This after I told the kids not to open windows etc.

Dh doesn’t normally work from home so wanted a “treat”. I said it was an incredibly dumb thing to do. And I got called hysterical. And a nag.

Your preferences don't trump his preferences. He's cooked dinner. It's no big deal. You need to calm down and realise that you share space with the rest of the family, so you can't expect to get your own way all of the time.

But he didn't cook the pork in the sink or the fridge or something! He used the kitchen and its appliances legitimately for the purpose that they were intended. He's done nothing wrong.

Surely most people still use their kitchens to cook in, even when it's hot? Pulled pork sandwiches sound like a lovely summer dinner.

Well its a bit daft of him but I wouldn't have a go over it, it's a kitchen- if he wants to get sweaty in there it's up to him.

Keeps the hot air out. Sounds counter intuitive but worked when I was living in a south facing flat with single glazing. And works in my current flat with windows on both sides that face east and west!

I’d be fine with this. Not sure where you are, but we have all the windows open, there is a real breeze and some wind so makes the house much cooler. The blinds are only closed half way where the sun is directly shining on that part of the house, as it moved round I open them.

I bought pork shoulder late last week to make pulled pork and it’s been too hot to have the oven on for hours, it’s gone in the freezer.

Maybe not yourself OP, but the posters of these types of threads will be back in a few years talking about how their husband used to pull his weight and make an efforts, now he hardly bothers, and if he does, he has to ask me 15 times over - and how the mental load is unbearable.

If you get told you're doing it wrong enough times, a lot of people just quiet quit. I'm not saying men doing stupid things shouldn't be told, or there is an excuse for men doing sod all, but I'd err on the side of letting this one be given that he's clearly trying to do something for the whole family.

I can't believe the voting has gone against you OP. I don't cope well with heat either, and I'd be furious. This is one of many reasons why I prefer to live alone - control over my home environment.

I agree with you, going to get hotter and you’ve lost the benefit of having a cool house, and will be hard to cool it down.

We don’t use the oven when it’s hot, we use the hob or the air fryer

You do that shit outside in the summer heat, not inside. It's not uncommon for people to set up whole summer kitchens outside and most at least BBQ.

A massive salad!! I’m cooking dinner later which will involve using the oven. If my DH walks into the kitchen and has a go at me for using the oven, it will be the last meal I ever cook in this house for anyone.

If your oven is heating up the kitchen there’s something wrong with the seal. If he’s using an actual slow cooker it’s no hotter than a light bulb and should also be sealed.
