AiBU to be angry with husband for slow roasting pork during heatwave?

I do my best to keep the house cool when it gets really hot. I do not cope well with heat. I make an effort to draw curtains, keep windows closed etc.

Come down during my lunch break and the formerly cool kitchen is now a sauna. Of all days dh has decided today is the day to use up the frozen pork for pulled pork sandwiches (dinner).

This after I told the kids not to open windows etc.

Dh doesn’t normally work from home so wanted a “treat”. I said it was an incredibly dumb thing to do. And I got called hysterical. And a nag.

Blimey @JoshLymanSwagger, sorry you're having a crap day but it make me laugh to think of you turning the hose on yourself (in anger?) Hope your day gets better and you eat something nice very soon!

OP, YANBU, pulled pork is rank anyway.

Meadowfinch · 22/06/2026 15:08

Go back to your cool work room and let him deal with it.

ThreeStripeQueen · 22/06/2026 15:09

YABU it’s not like he’s spit roasting it on an open fire in your bedroom all night.
I don’t understand the MN horror of being near an oven once the outdoor temperature reaches more than 22 degrees.

Loub1987 · 22/06/2026 15:09

Why are you keeping the windows closed? How is that helpful unless you have air con?

I wouldn’t personally get too activated about it. A pulled pork roll with salad and coleslaw does sound nice.

mynameiscalypso · 22/06/2026 15:10

I cooked a slow roast pork shoulder yesterday when it was 30-odd degrees in London. I didn’t really think about it to be honest!

Spit roasting all night
Ooo er missus.

@DanaScullysLegoHair I've had a bad weekend.
Combo of one missing lego piece (!) funnily enough, a tummy bug and menopause.🥵🤬

Honestly - the hosepipe was probably the best option and I did water the plants while I was quietly ish ranting at myself.

our extension (includes kitchen) is always really nice and cool. It’s a nightmare in winter (have to have radiators on full blast) but a godsend in Summer. But now he’s blasted hot air I to
it. It was lovely and cool before.

He is an idiot but you should invest in a crock pit/slow cooker. It won’t heat the house at all.

Charlotte120221 · 22/06/2026 15:13

why is your kitchen turning into a sauna when the oven is on? V strange.

As long as he's just leaving it alone while it slow roasts, how is that affecting the temperature in the room?

Theyreeatingthedogs · 22/06/2026 15:14

Uncooked pork doesn't taste good, even if the weather is hot.

And by the bedroom fire as well…. Ooooo

DanaScullysLegoHair · 22/06/2026 15:15

@JoshLymanSwagger, in fairness I can now see exactly why you were irate and at boiling point.

Hopefully you and DH both cool off a bit and enjoy your evening. By all means, turn the hose on him too if necessary 🙂

The best way to keep a room cool is have the windows closed and blinds/curtains drawn. Open windows just lets hot air in.

OtterLovesItsRock · 22/06/2026 15:16

Does he normally use such sexist insults? I voted YANBU because his language was beyond the pale.

PyongyangKipperbang · 22/06/2026 15:17

Does he often use misogynistic insults towards you?

Hotupnorth · 22/06/2026 15:17

A bit OTT. That said, he should have shut the kitchen door and opened the window.

BreakingBroken · 22/06/2026 15:17

For future hot days; you can do pulled pork in a slow cooker and you can place the slow cooker outside keeping the kitchen/house cool (I have outdoor plugs but an extension cord out the window works).
You can go online and start researching air con, rather than picker plan ahead and make changes.

bengalcat · 22/06/2026 15:19

Might slow roasted husband appeal ?

It's a thing.

Once the air outside is warmer than the air inside, you are merely just letting warm air inside. So best to shut the windows and have a fan going.

chocoluv · 22/06/2026 15:21

YABU

Have a cold shower and you’ll be fine.

I couldn’t imagine someone nagging me in my on home like that.
I’ll cook whatever I want.

Delphiniumandlupins · 22/06/2026 15:22

Well it's done now and pulled pork is yummy and usually lasts for several days. So I wouldn't keep making a fuss or you might not get any.

Terfedout · 22/06/2026 15:23

Ahhh joy. Another thread relating to people not being able to handle a bit of heat. (Fully appreciate I'm being irrationally angry on this point today 🤣🤣🤣)

GalaDinner · 22/06/2026 15:28

Plug an appliance in outside to cook if you can, in this weather. Otherwise, use the kitchen extractor fan to remove heat.

Excited101 · 22/06/2026 15:31

TheJoyousHiker · 22/06/2026 14:55

You’re over-reacting. A kitchen is for cooking in.

Stupid argument.

A bathroom is for shitting in, but if you came in to a giant turd in the middle of the shower tray, you’d be annoyed.
