What would you assume if someone asked you for this?

Light-hearted one for a Sunday morning. Settle something between me and my husband.

If you asked someone what they want to eat, and they said "boiled eggs and toast" what would you give them?

YABU - Boiled eggs, in eggcups with toast cut into soldiers IE: boiled eggs and soldiers
YANBU - Boiled eggs (shelled) and slices of toast, because that's what they asked for

Neither of your suggestions.

What they asked for: boiled eggs and toast. I would put the boiled eggs into egg cups though. Otherwise they roll around.

The toast would be slices of, not cut up; if they are an adult they can cut the toast how they like.

i would do this too. Never heard of ‘dippy’ eggs 🤢. Why would you cut an adults toast in strips???

Almost your YABU - I'd boil the eggs and put them in egg cups, but I wouldn't cut the toast into soldiers unless asked, I'd just serve it buttered and cut in triangles.

You can have soft boiled and shelled. Noone said they had to be hard boiled

I wouldn’t take any notice of what Noone said.

So you can fit them inside the egg, which remains in its shell in an eggcup while you enjoy the hot yolk on your toast fingers. The diner may or may not also want to eat the egg white (I don’t but each to their own).

Your sneeriness is rude and unattractive. Judging other people’s food choices does not make you morally superior, just someone with whom it’s really unpleasant sharing a meal.

5 minutes here - so the white is solid (and can therefore be avoided) and the yolk is still all runny.

Exactly 😉

Incidentally, I would have no objections at all if someone served me boiled eggs directly on pieces of toast, but it wouldn't be my default way of presenting them.

I've never heard of anyone putting a soft boiled egg ON toast, that's really weird. It's obviously boiled egg and soliders to me

That would be really unusual, to the point of being bonkers.

If the meal were to include toast, I would expect the soft cooked egg to be poached or fried, not boiled and shelled.

I've done that in situations where there haven't been egg cups handy, e.g. self catering holidays.

If you tend to put most of your boiled egg onto toast anyway, it cuts out the middle man!

Personally I'll put about half of it on toast and eat the rest out of its shell.

You can have soft boiled with a salad

Yes! My favorite lunch recently has been a mixed green salad with smoked salmon, avocado, and a soft boiled egg. Yum.

It's really not that unusual. There's are a tonne of recipes on Google that say to do just that

Soft boiled eggs and toast soldiers.
I am very much afraid that I do not know what "dippy" eggs are, in the same way as I have no idea about any food predicated by the word "picky".
