Light-hearted one for a Sunday morning. Settle something between me and my husband.

If you asked someone what they want to eat, and they said "boiled eggs and toast" what would you give them?

YABU - Boiled eggs, in eggcups with toast cut into soldiers IE: boiled eggs and soldiers
YANBU - Boiled eggs (shelled) and slices of toast, because that's what they asked for

I know what they are! I like mine with soldiers! what else would you have with it? Just regular big toast?

Yeah, like you tip it out onto the toast.

But I suppose you could scoop it out of a cup with soldiers actually so I take it back.

I’m completely awkward. In my house you’d get a soft boiled egg mashed in a cup with a bit of butter and toast to eat it with. Food of the gods.

No adult eats boiled eggs with soldiers! 😂 I haven’t had that since I was about 10.

id presume dh meant egg sliced on toast as that’s what he would normally have.

Oh dear. I’m 55 and still eat dippy eggs with soldiers.

Not only that, but I only eat the yolks.

No, why would it be in its shell?
It would be a boiled egg, not in its shell, on toast.
What he got was something like this:

This is how I have my boiled eggs every day, sometimes with salmon but on the days I don't have salmon exactly like that. I do always think my daughter's dippy egg tastes better though.

noonames · Today 11:20

If it were me asking, I would mean softish boiled eggs shelled and served on top of toast. Yum. Just as nice as poached eggs but easier imo. Sometimes enhanced with any or all of avocado / ham / marmite / cayenne pepper.

If DH were asking I’d probably check but more than likely he’d mean soft unshelled in an egg cup with soldiers. I agree though that people tend to ask for soldiers if that’s what they want, so asking for toast was a bit misleading.

KarmenPQZ · Today 11:21

In my house they would end up with 2 soft boiled eggs still in shell in a bowl and a side plate with one piece of toast uncut. From there they can do as they please

Feckitanyway123 · Today 11:27

I honestly didn't know adults eat boiled eggs with soldiers as a matter of course! I would definitely expect that to be stipulated if wanted.

Yes, exactly. My own would be with avocado if I had it 😋😋😋

That photo look like eggs on sourdough. Please tell me you didn't use sourdough.

I'd say three minutes or five

5 minutes 20 seconds for soft boiled in this house.

No, I don't tend to have it in the house. I used ordinary white bread.

I do like sourdough though. I am not ashamed of this 😆

Not sourdough and no greenery but eggs like this is pretty much exactly what DH got. With salt and ground pepper

5 minutes here - so the white is solid (and can therefore be avoided) and the yolk is still all runny.

weareallcats · Today 11:38

We don’t even own egg cups so eggs would be soft boiled, shelled and cut in half on top of the toast here. I do now find myself wanting some egg cups though…

And to the poster saying the yolk is wasted - it really isn’t, it just runs all over the toast when you cut the egg open - amazing.

I have some beautifully turned wooden ones, which recall those of my 1970s childhood. They make me feel fancy, as well as keeping my eggs warmer for longer than ceramic.

Omg the contrast 🤭 I feel chavvy lol

🤣🤣🤣 I think I just treat my eggies with greater ceremony! My eggcups are the poshest thing about my kitchen, and even then they only cost £2 each!

PuppyMonkey · Today 11:48

Glad it’s all worked out well in the end OP but you’re going to have to face it, you DID spectacularly cock this simple request up. Pardon the pun. Grin

Neither of your options.
Am I the only person who has never eaten or made “soldiers” in their life? It’s just not a thing for me (Scottish living in Wales)

Boiled eggs and toast is eggs in egg cups, done to the desired hardness or softness and slices of toast.

I’m also Scottish and have never said “dippy egg” out loud or had soldier toast, but I am familiar with the concept 😂

Flowerlovinglady · Today 11:52

Given that instruction from an adult, I would put provide two soft boiled eggs in egg cups with a spoon and slices of toast. So, neither of your answers. I definitely wouldn't be shelling their eggs for them unless they were not able to do so for themselves.

Morepositivemum · Today 11:56

I’d just be happy getting an egg and toast- don’t really mind!!! I’d say whatever ye normally do together!!
