Furious with DH’s new England flag

NC’d for this. About half the houses on our street put flags up during the big football tournaments. DH put one up with his teams badge on at the weekend, and took delivery of a new flag today. He’s proudly displayed this - it’s a St George’s cross with ‘In Farage We Trust’ printed across the middle 😫

I’ve told him to take it down and that the neighbours will judge but he’s standing firm. Would it be wrong of me to tear it down myself?!

Didn’t the flag hanging start when an area in the Midlands was covered in Palestine flags, which was all fine and dandy, until people started putting up England flags because apparently they posed a health and safety risk? But the Palestine flags didn’t?

I personally would prefer no flags hanging anywhere if they’re political statements but you can’t have one rule for one…

It’s the hypocrisy that people don’t like. Flying the St George’s flag while trying to undermine everything that is good and world renowned about our country. Saying they are ‘patriots’ while peddling fear, hatred and mistrust.

There is hated and division being encouraged on both sides - why exactly do you think that is and WHO do you think is behind it?

People need to start asking questions and thinking critically. Stop believing the shallow messages you see on social media.

It's not as straightforward as that. Holding or hoisting the St George flag during the world cup is no different to every other single country that does the same. Outside of football tournaments, Hoisting it on flag poles is not racist and it's not intened to cause alarm or distress. Social media, it can be argued, can send out manipulative messages from both the left and right. Hope not hate being one of the worst platforms for disinformation. They are the opposite of what they are meant to represent.
