Furious with DH’s new England flag

NC’d for this. About half the houses on our street put flags up during the big football tournaments. DH put one up with his teams badge on at the weekend, and took delivery of a new flag today. He’s proudly displayed this - it’s a St George’s cross with ‘In Farage We Trust’ printed across the middle 😫

I’ve told him to take it down and that the neighbours will judge but he’s standing firm. Would it be wrong of me to tear it down myself?!

Farage is a terrible football manager. All his attacks go down the right hand side.

🤣

A grown man and such sad behaviour. Reminds me of reading about the rise of Mussolini and how people obsessed over him and trusted him.

Joke Academy:

"Down the right hand side" doesn't work.

Try "down the right wing".

Did I just get mumsnplained 😆

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 17/06/2026 17:27

Racism is not a good look.

Fiftyandnotsonifty · 17/06/2026 17:27

Do you really need to ask?

TrinketsNTat · 17/06/2026 17:28

Neighbours will judge, I certainly would.

There should be household agreement with what is hung outside the property since it reflects on everyone inside, so not unreasonable to remove it.

Is the fact he is a Farage supporter, strongly enough to want to advertise also, news to you? It would be a deal breaker for me, I could not be with someone who didn’t feel I deserve equal human rights and holds other beliefs that I find fundementally in opposition to my beliefs - it's a bit beyond agreeing to disagree on pineapple on pizza. .

imonlyherecosimbored · 17/06/2026 17:28

Burn it. And him.

Phonicshaskilledmeoff · 17/06/2026 17:29

Yuck - what an ick

IRememberWhenThisWasAllFieldsAndCakePunching · 17/06/2026 17:29

I would be really disgusted with my husband and question our relationship deeply. On the other hand, I am mixed race, which means my primary aged son is, too. If I left my house one morning and found a neighbour had that hanging on their house, I would find it deeply distressing. I might even muster the courage to knock on the door and ask to have a chat so your husband understood the impact of his actions.

Jesus all these racist accusations flying around. I actually believe that @JuliaMaesa may be joking here but not all Farage supporters are racists.

"not all Farage supporters are racist"

because they selectively choose to ignore the "little bit" of policy they don't necessarily agree with?

Choosing your political affiliations are not binary but it certainly is a reflection of cognitive bias.

SinceYoureGayAndAddictedToHeroin · 17/06/2026 17:33

Is it really a surprise to you that he's like this? I wouldn't have this problem, as I'd never be in a relationship with someone who had these views in the first place. And if they suddenly appeared, in someone I was in a relationship with, I'd LTB pronto.

Is this the first time you realised you're married to a racist? Or have you always known and been comfortable about it as it has, until now, been kept behind close doors? Are you more worried about your neighbours knowing you are racist, than actually being married to a racist?

If you lived on my street, you and your family would be shunned.

Being shunned by neighbours is a bonus. Lovely quiet life then.

Blueplant · 17/06/2026 17:35

What in the world?

Surely a true patriot with respect for the flag wouldn't dream of defacing it with political slogans?

Regardless, I couldn't live in that house. Seruously. I'd never want to go there again.

You must have known he held these views though? Was it Ok as long as no one else knew?

I know you will say that racism is the worst crime anyone could ever commit but I'm sure most voters ignore bits of policies they don't agree with. Like the Greens supporting assaults on the police. I wouldn't vote Reform by the way and don't like Farage, just sick of the holier than thou attitudes on mumsnet about some political parties.

FruAashild · 17/06/2026 17:37

We currently have two Scottish flaģs, one English flag and one Brazilian flag on display to reflect the countries we were all born in. We also have flags of the world bunting up. Don't want anyone thinking for a second we might be racist. I'm in a town cover in St George's cross thanks to the Farage supporters. There's a few houses with flags of the world bunting that has just been put up for the world cup, never seen it before but clearly we've all had the same idea.

watchingthishtread · 17/06/2026 17:37

The flag is the least of your problems. The man who chose to buy the flag is the bigger problem.

GreenCaterpillarOnALeaf · 17/06/2026 17:38

Is he doing this to aggregate the other neighbours with political flags? Like is theirs one that says refugees welcome or something? Doesn’t make a real difference I’m just curious.

DH has covered our house in Scotland flags and I’m going to be 100% honest, I think it looks chavy no matter what flag it is but at the end of the day it’s for the kids and him having a bit of fun. If he’d done something like that though.. he’d be in for the fucking bollocking of a lifetime. He’s making you look like a mug.

Esmeraldathe3rd · 17/06/2026 17:39

Ew no it might as well say "I'm a racist idiot". You're also making yourself a target for anyone that doesn't agree. You don't plaster your political opinions on your house, how stupid.

Gettingaggy · 17/06/2026 17:39

Well you must have already known he was a Farage supporter?

MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 17/06/2026 17:39

I’d set fire to it

No it’s not a case of opposing other flags. He said it will ‘get all the right people frothing’ so he knows it will wind some neighbours up.

Does the Scottish flag say “In Murrell We Trust”?

Esmeraldathe3rd · 17/06/2026 17:42

Displaying flags of the teams you support is absolutely not the issue. Displaying flags with racist or political messages is the issue.

And it's also ruining the flag for non racists. Like "the gays" taking the rainbow or the Nazis taking the swastika
