After decades of disappointment I've pretty much given up on watching England with any hope.

I have Scottish in laws and love the place anyway but after seeing all the videos of the tartan army in Boston I'd so love for them to win ( however unlikely that may be!)

Seriously! Almost 50 years ago and this is the best you can do. Talk about bearing grudges. 🤣

I don't really get your point. Are you complaining about them dancing with an Argentinian fan

TheChosenTwo · 16/06/2026 23:07

Ah op I’m with you!
I don’t watch football, not a supporter of England (I mean I’m not anti them by any means but I just don’t care) and I’ve seen some lovely videos shared of the Scottish fans, I’m easily pleased 😂
Just nice to see people feeling proud of their country. I don’t feel especially proud of mine at the moment.

Catsandcheese · 16/06/2026 23:10

Why does it matter to English people whether Scottish people want them to win? That seems weird. I’m French I live in Scotland and I have a fondness for the tartan army but I’d be much happier for France to win. Allez les bleus, ole ole ole

Jellycatspyjamas · 16/06/2026 21:57

You really don’t think anything might have changed in 50 years?

Nah. I reckon if Scotland beat England at Wembley tomorrow the fans would invade the pitch and take bits of it home. That's as bad as it got at Wembley in 1977. They stole bits of grass. 😂

ArtfulTaupeGoose · 16/06/2026 23:14

I'm English and live just on the England side of the border. I work in Scotland....
The ABE drives me mad! I hope Scotland do well, but not as well as England!!

FloodlightsOnTheSquare · 16/06/2026 23:16

My dad has a wee bit of Wembley grass. But an England fan punched his brother in the face as they walked towards the stadium so I think he considers it a fair trade.

Cosimarocks · 16/06/2026 23:17

Not at all. I’m English and as far back as I can remember I’ve wanted any team BUT England to win. But then I loathe football.

liveforsummer · 16/06/2026 23:26

Good god I hope not. I work in a pub on my days off from my full time job because the cost of living means I can’t afford the luxury of a day off - Saturday night/Sunday morning shift was horrendous and my feet still hurt now - sooner we are out the better (entirely selfishly lol)

onmylastnerveseriously · 16/06/2026 23:36

The World Cup is next year OP! 😂

Livelovebehappy · 16/06/2026 23:47

England all the way for me. But I do feel sorry for Scotland. They just never seem to be successful at any sport. It must be frustrating for them….

Let’s hear how many Scots want England to win?
I think you know the answer.
We were living in Scotland when they last got in the World Cup and my daughter was friendly with one of the players sons, at nursery. All those Scottish Mums tried so hard to befriend the Mother, but the wee lad made a bee line for the only English child in the nursery!

Of course you're not going to find many Scots wanting England to win. Do you know nothing about football?

England and Scotland have one of the oldest and most traditional rivalries in football.

If Scotland were regularly competing at England's level in major tournaments, plenty of England fans would be cheering for their elimination too. The idea that England fans support Scotland is a myth. When people say it, it's either out of pity, because Scotland rarely gets far in these tournaments, or simply to gaslight.

But Scotland don’t care. They are just happy to be in the game this time, and yes once out will happily support anyone but their rivals, just to wind England up.

The oddest tithing about it is why on earth does England care and take it so personally 🤷🏻‍♀️ Football rivalries aren't always logical, but that's part of what makes them rivalries.

Bawbagg · 16/06/2026 23:58

NO SCOTLAND NO PARTY

I understand your sentiments...but do watch the video of Scotland fans in 1977 at Wembley. The media has painted a rosey picture of these lovely Scottish people in their wee kilts and hats... whilst churning out the view that the English are like the hordes of Atilla the Hun. Whilst the huge majority of Scotland fans are well behaved, I have personal experience of the opposite.

Almost 50 years ago? Is that the best you can do ConfusedGrin

summeronthehorizon · 17/06/2026 00:05

Ah the Scottish fans look like they are having the best time over in Boston. In any big group there will always be arse holes but on the whole I imagine it’s all good fun.

I am Scottish and first and foremost, Scotland have my backing. But I also want England to win if Scotland don’t. Im in the minority - but I’m guessing the OP is in the minority too! Everyone knows about Scotland v England rivalry!

Also 1966 ruined it for England. They sickened everyone by how much they went on about it and still go on about it.

DugnuttEyeBoogies · 17/06/2026 00:07

SpottyAlpaca · 16/06/2026 22:06

YANBU. Support who you want to.

I’m the opposite way round. Scottish born & bred. I would love to be proud of my country but I can’t be because I absolutely detest the embarrassingly small-minded, chippy ‘Anyone But England’ mentality of so many Scottish people. Which is who I’m supporting England. A proud nation which doesn’t have a pathetic inferiority complex. At least we might win a couple of games…

Are you the same Alpaca poster who goes on and on about the SNP at any chance you get.

What? Tennis, cycling, golf, judo… we do well at plenty of sports. And our fans don’t act like total louts.

I think Andy Murray, Eilish McColgan and Duncan Scott would like a word ….. and that’s just quickly off the top of my head.

DugnuttEyeBoogies · 17/06/2026 00:16

And Sir Chris Hoy of course.

ThatJadeLion · 17/06/2026 00:17

English and 100% supporting England. Personally I think YABU but it's a free world, you can support who you like. English and proud here. But no doubt saying this will offend someone.

NotInvolved · 17/06/2026 00:44

I was born and brought up in England but have a mixed Scottish and Northern Irish background. I consider myself British. I'm married to someone who is half Welsh, half Spanish. This conveniently allows for strategic selection of who to support in a number of sports!😂
I'm supporting Scotland currently. My adult children live in Scotland and have Scottish partners so it's easier to all be on the same side. I would genuinely like to see them do well, but I have alternative options for later in the tournament. I have to say I thought Spain were going to be my best bet but I'm not so sure now! I won't be losing much sleep though. It's only a game after all.

dizzydizzydizzy · 17/06/2026 00:55

YABU. It is against the law

Ezzee · 17/06/2026 00:57

Here in the USA atm, really not liking the Scottish fans here! Loud, rude and really, really drunk, swearing and being dicks, letting the kids run amok because the football is on, about 15/20 families.. So not the whole of Scotland but letting down their country!
